GR Yaris Toyota UK remap

Thanks for sharing. From your words, it looks more appealing than I usually thought.

To be honest, I don't really care about the small power bump as much as I do the throttle response. Most of my mods have revolved around making everything in the car feel more responsive and connected. The ¥88,000 (£450) was worth it, as it's not one of those plug-in throttle enhancers they sell. The whole thing is geared towards rally and gymkhana drivers here in Japan and a lot of what they did in the new car (torque split/power steering changes, etc.) were based around feedback from this program. While 20nm doesn't do much in fifth gear, in first gear it's an additional 278nm (5%) at the tire and 176nm in second. The pick up difference when coming off of a pylon turn at near zero speed is real.

Did you notice a difference in steering communication/roadfeel with the different steering weights? I'm thinking of going for the different steering settings if it does make a difference.

Thank you for your patience whilst we looked into this for you.

I can confirm that currently, this software upgrade is in the pilot phase and we would recommend contacting your local Toyota for further information on this.

Unfortunately, for the time being we are unable to provide any further updates on this.

Thank you for contacting Toyota (GB).

Kind regards,

Archie Cole

This is the response from toyota to my request for info and if this will be available in n ireland uk.

Hi all
Yes we are on the pilot and are asking questions before we roll it out
We have the license keys in stock so anyone interested we will start booking shortly
As I understand so far you will have a choice of 4 maps
Rallye
B Road
Race or
Custom
Each will feature a different configuration of
Steering feel accelerator response
And drive train configuration
One flash of the ECU will give you that choice along with the 20nm

Yes. Unfortunately it's a highly subjective thing, so really impossible to make a recommendation... There's heavy, standard, and light. I do know that a lot of the gymkhana drivers prefer the lighter (more assist) steering, as they're in first gear a lot, spinning around pylons and what not. The heavy setting has a lot more road feedback, but at the driving thing, you never get out of second gear and I didn't like it...which isn't to say someone else might love it, and I simply preferred the stock setting. For me, tight winding mountain "b roads" here in Japan, I liked it right where it's at. Heavier might be better for higher-gear road feedback, but I never got the chance to test it in that situation.

Thanks for the info, in that case I might go for the heavier setting as I find myself really wanting more feedback from the car. I drive a decent amount of mountain roads in other cars when I'm in Hong Kong and really value roadfeel, a lot of which I thought was missing in this.

Are Toyota UK actually going to officially announce the pilot including the dealers involved and the process for choosing settings?

Hope it’s not a case of a 3 month pilot with no contact to owners and everyone at head office thinking no one’s interested so they no longer offer anything additional.

Iv posted toyotas answer , it seems they are keeping it secret from customers and dealers, iv directly asked the question of toyota gb and my dealer, the dealer hadn't heard of an upgrade and toyota wouldn't give me any info.

Although that was in relation to Ireland which I suspect is a very limited market.

From RRG Macclesfield...

Just spoke to Richard and he's let me know that he's in a meeting with Toyota tomorrow, to find out all of the details. He raised a good question, which was 'what if the customer doesn't like a part of the options... steering for example, can they go back into the ECU and swap options for the same price etc.'

All positive I think and I'm looking forward to learning more, later this week..

You would imagine you could flash the file, test drive and reflash different settings until you are happy. That would be the customer based approach.

Dealer approach would be to make you go and give them your car for the whole day so they can enjoy it, reflash 5 minutes before closing and then say tough shit if you don't like it.

f**k the dealer system and their warranty
