Agree - but this car does have some unique attributes though. It's a difficult choice, moot for the time-being as I won't be offered one in the short-term. I guess the question is should I hold out for it or get something else?

Have you had the opportunity to test drive one?
 
Well said RichM . Hudson Please take one out for a test drive and you will know , Especially if its very wet . If you can try and get it into expert sport mode :) for really the best feel. Just be ready for the 6000 mile services , which imho is completely fair for this type of performance . Horses for courses , but it defo gave me the tingle factor - I wanted it now Daddy.
 
For anyone interested in details on the Ogier/Rovanperä special editions: in Switzerland, Toyota has opened up this page to express interest by filling a form. Only 5 vehicles (per edition) will come to Switzerland and one is eligible only after ordering the 2024 GRY (unfortunately). One of the steps is something similar to a cover letter, to expand on why you would be interested in getting one.

The new model doesn't have to have a carbon roof does it? As its not a homologation special.
.. So doesn't have to be made out of exactly the same materials as the rally car.

New has same panels as the Mk1, same carbon roof. Same doors, hood, trunk. Maybe there is slight difference in panels, but I would say they are mostly identical/interchangable.

New type approval would likely have to be sought if they swapped the carbon roof for aluminium/steel, hence why it's staying carbon.
 
Yesterday I placed an order with my Swiss dealer for a new manual GR Yaris in "Precious Metal" grey with the red stitched interior and matching seatbelts (y)

Although reasonably-priced, I decided not to specify the "Premium Pack" with its weight-adding options (JBL speakers, front and rear parking sensors, 3 additional driving aids, heated steering wheel, and heated seats). I also decided against the new automatic gearbox as I enjoy manual gearboxes more than automatics. By not specifying the automatic I'm also saving a few thousand in expenses and 20kg as well ;)

Unfortunately for Swiss customers the BBS wheels have now become a (costly) option. However I decided to add these as they save around 3kg per piece over the standard wheels. Also I like their look more than the standard ones and already have them on my car, so couldn't bring myself not to tick that box!

Delivery is expected October or November.

Unlike some markets, the original GR Yaris was already relatively expensive to buy new in Switzerland. Luckily for us the new model is only very slightly more expensive, so makes trading in an easy exercise. Compared to my current car and with similar equipment (except heated steering wheel and heated seats which are no longer standard), I'm adding only CHF 1,500 to get the new model. Also my dealer gave me a good trade-in deal which allows me to keep driving my car until the new one arrives. So I'll still have my Pearl White Circuit Pack GR Yaris to enjoy all summer and autumn :cool:

I am probably in a similar position as you.
I think my nearly 3 year old MK1 is too early to sell right now especially as the new HKS exhaust possibly won't fit on the MK2.
Ideally, I would order the MK2 for spring 26 so I am on the books which gives me another two years use and then at 5 years old would feel OK at letting it go - but not right now.
Received my email about the MK2 process but not sure if that current owner/ name in bag ordering process is for just the 2024 cars then free for all 2025 onwards.
How do others read the situation for the possibly 3-4 years the MK2 will be out before the hopefully next re-fresh.
If you were like me and wanted the MK2 in say 2026 how would you be approaching it as I doubt you can order it now with a delivery date of 2-3 years. What if I sit back and do nothing for 2 years and then kick myself when told I should have put my name down when current owners and them on list had first dabs at one. I wonder if I could ask Toyota UK if I could join the list with a delivery window in 2 years time.
It seems GR.KEV is in similar position to me. I wonder how many others feel the same.
I am not sure how to look and think about this.

Coming to the conclusion £50k inc paint etc for the Yaris is just too much. Think Toyota has gone from one extreme to the other between mk1 and Mk2. Something like a new M2 with 460bhp can be had for £60k with discount

Yeah way too much money, I thought maybe sub 40k, I still love mine after 3yrs and 25k!
Think I will go to Litchfields and go for more HP💨💨

I agree it’s now an expensive little car, but have tried driving a new m2 at a similar pace in all weathers ?
I fancied one, had done a deal on a new black manual for £58k
Borrowed the demo for a weekend to make sure I was doing the right thing. Put about 300 miles in it, mid wales blasts, took it to work, out with friends for a meal etc
Zero grip in the damp, good front end feel but no confidence in the rear
A nice car, but not a point to point fun car
If the x drive version appears I may try it again but otherwise it’s a no from me and my use of a car
I won’t be saying yea to a mk2 this year either, maybe next year or ideally the year after tho and I might
