GR Yaris (Gen 2) Process for purchase

Thanks for joining the waitlist for GR Yaris. Due to overwhelming demand, the 2024 allocation of New GR Yaris will be available exclusively through an online purchasing ballot, for current owners and those who joined the waitlist prior to its closure in May 2022.

The purchasing ballot will be opening soon, if successful you'll have the chance to be one of the first to purchase New GR Yaris, with deliveries starting later this year. Further details on how to enter will be shared in May. We'll be in touch to keep you posted, every step of the way.

Yeah, had the same on the 18th.

The website suggested the ballot had taken place, so was asking if anyone had been formally invited to order the car and not just entry to the ballot.
Obviously not yet, as someone would've confirmed they have an allocation.

I would wait till all the hype dies down,
The original is still an amazing car, and it looks like we all bought a bargain ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ

I contacted Toyota GB a week ago stating I am interested in the new one but not this year. I asked If I could order but defer my preferential allocation for 1 or two years as I will be ready then. I thought they wouldn't reply due to the big demand but today I received this reply:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Thank you for getting in touch. Itโ€™s great to hear that you are interested in the new GR Yaris!โ€ฏโ€ฏ

Due to the exceptional demand that we have seen since launch of the GR Yaris and the latest response to the World Premiere of the New model in January this year, we recognise that this means many potential customers will not be able to purchase the new model.

The opportunity to purchase a New GR Yaris will be offered to existing contactable UK GR Yaris customers and customers that joined the official UK waiting list prior to its closure in May 2022.

These customers will have the chance to enter a ballot for an opportunity to buy a New GR Yaris with exact details on how to enter being shared directly with these customers via email early May. We will also communicate these details with all Network partners as well as publicly through a Press release to ensure all interested parties are kept informed.

The GR Yaris ballot will be for our 2024 UK allocation, there may be a further opportunity in 2025 at which point we will communicate with all Centres and customers as per the process this year. We do not expect to have confirmation of our 2025 supply until January 2025 and we wouldn't be able to confirm anything in regards to 2026".
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have highlighted the bit regarding next year. I am not sure how to take this. Do you think it means 2025 allocation will also go to a ballot only for existing customers? If so, Those that miss out this year and then sell their MK1 this year may not then be elligable for the 2025 ballot which could be annoying if so. If they do a ballot next year for current owners then they may also do it again in 2026. Could they keep doing the same each year till they use up current owner application then open it up to none owners. If so, then I could hold back till the new ballot in 2025 and at least get my name on the list of current owners.
I think it says next year will also be for current owners and maybe 2026 if enough current owners sign up.
How do others read this reply?

Thatโ€™s the same as mentioned in the press release when the ballot was announced.

Basically the answer is they donโ€™t know. Allocations for all models get agreed in January so until then itโ€™s a bit of a guess.

But my take on it is:

Under 1,000 (picking that out of thin air) ballot for those who were unlucky from the first ballot.

Over 1,000 maybe a ballot for the first cars of the year and then open sale.

Over 2,000 free for all.

Obviously this is all guessing and those numbers may be way out but thatโ€™s how Iโ€™d be looking at it if I had control of the train set.

Boggles my mind that they're offering these up to existing GR yaris owners while completely overlooking those who missed the the opportunity to get on the list because maybe, oh I don't know, they weren't in the financial position to get one early.

Itโ€™s a good way to make your brand more desirable, next time thereโ€™s a new sporty model out it drives the fear of missing out for future versions so people commit or you sell out quickly.

Just a quick question for anyone who bought a Mk1 in Europe (UK included), please.
How long did the delivery process take, in average, starting from the first day of production of the car?
In other words, by presuming that the timeline will be the same for Mk2 cars, by when should I expect (very roughly) to have the car with me, since production for my Mk2 started on 13th May?
Unfortunately I had no chance to follow the process for my Mk1 car, because my order never appeared on the MyToyota app, and I never received updates from Toyota about it.
The dealer simply advised me once the car was delivered to him.
Thank you everyone!

Very much depends who you ask. Some people waited up to 2 years. I know that's not helpful but it varied quite a lot.

Was is something like production took 1 month lead time from start, and when car was ready it took little more than 2 months to get local delivery. This has likely variation on how logistics match so could be +/- 2 wks.

Thank you, that's roughly the same timeline expectation that the dealer gave me

What would you say would be the minimum delivery time, in the best of cases, expressed in months?

And how long does it take to manufacture it from when the order is placed until it leaves the factory door?

Ballot.. Then wait to see if your in the ballot.. Then only if you own one.. Then only so many.. You would think it was a maclaren senna or something. ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚. Hilarious.

The time from Order to start of manufacturing at plant varies from 1 month to 2 years so there is not exact time. I was talking from the point when manufacturing starts at the factory where it follow ups generic delivery time schedule.
