GR86 Anyone unplugged the sound generator?

Why would you unplug the OEM one only to plug in another into the OBD port? It makes no sense to me ...

Yes, I had a 110 mile round trip around the lake-district to the "local" karting club and back on Sunday. I had a LOT of fun! Its surprising how entertaining a car can be under 4k RPM. Sign of a great chassis I guess. The sound was rather uninspiring, but I'd take that over a sound-racer any day.

The main reason I wanted to get it unplugged is because I have an exhaust on the way and I don't want that to be blended with the fake engine noise. I really want to fit some unequal length manifolds too (catted to avoid any CEL issues) but I'm concerned about the affect this might have on my warranty. I guess that's a topic for the exhaust thread though.
 
I see there's a guy in the FB UK Owners Group declaring that he disabled the ESG through the system menus and enabled it again by resetting the head unit ... Okay, I'll get some Lurpak spread on my hat for when he proves it :sneaky:

Found it. Yeah I reckon he's chattin' breeze as the kids says (probably). I bet he's just reset his audio setting so now his music is louder and he can't hear it :D

Can we call it by the correct name; "Gazoo Kazoo"?

The dealer disabled mine so I've never driven my car with it on. oddly, I think it makes the gearchange easier as I swear the fake noise had slight lag. - I remember struggling with smooth shifts on my test drive, but not having that issue with my car once delivered.

I definitely, definitely need an aftermarket exhaust though.

It's the main reason I disabled it and put the Remark on. I drive by ear and the sound was out.

I found it the same! Swear it's delayed

But also it's werid that the GR86 I have driven in Japan don't have the same issues, a newer car for sure and their version seems to be louder with better matching. The EUDM the fake sound is very aburpt, from near silent to loud fake noises, GPF not helping I bet
 
I think you may end up reactivating it 10secs into the ride.....

Looks easy, but the only thing holding me back is I suspect it might be a whole lot more difficult plugging it back in again.

I just had the first service, and I asked the Tech to disable the speaker in the ECU. Not problem, and was done free of charge.

Car is much more comfortable cruising on the motorway without the dull drone from the speaker! And you can actually hear the engine now!

I would recommend you do this when you get your car serviced over manually unplugging the speaker!

1) It is done by a toyota tech so no possibility of warranty issues.
2) No fiddling around and dismmatling anything.
3) Easy to restore if and when you want.

Fair enough... then I would recommend Somerset county Cars - becuase they do seem to know at least where the OBD2 port is... :ROFLMAO:
