GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

The MOT place I go to is great as its just an MOT station, which means you can pretty much arrive at your booking time and drive it straight onto the rollers. But as it's literally a 2 minute drive from my house, I end up taking the car for a 10 minute run up the dual carriageway to warm it up, just in case.

My exhaust is fairly subdued anyway but the guy did say he appreciates it that I present the car all warmed up and ready. Think it means they can get the emissions tested nice and quickly.

AWE catback & MOT booked for December. It will be freezing cold and the techs will be behind schedule, i'll arrive on time and be asked to grab a coffee and relax in the waiting area. Just enough time will pass for the car to cool down. Suddenly mass panic, windows shatter, walls are vibrating, the staff have gone deaf and i'll be sipping my drink, "oh it's my turn" god help me, will report back.
Now imagine that same scenario except in front of the AWE is nothing but smooth pipes 😅

Service and MOT will be Monday, after I provide my own filter as it's on back order... I'll get them to do the washer as it is a warranty claim.
Car will be washed down once it's home and away for Winter. Local council put the Dead Sea worth of salt and grit down so isn't worth it. Annoying as the last few weeks driving it in the wet again has mad me appreciate it all the more.
The washers for the window mechanism is a warranty claim?

No snow here - just an early heavy frost.

1pm and 6 degrees and I still managed to find a shaded corner with a thin coating of black ice - luckily only 20mph and rears only slid round about 45 degrees.

I’m assuming traction control fixed it as it was over before I could react !

Was due to go to my dealer to get the door to window trim / rubber changed because the little end cap has come out. Anyone else had this?

However snow or in reality the amount of salt that had been spread made me postpone….

Gratuitous photo of first skiff of snow:

Thought about cancelling the second service (@14k mileage) due to sub-zero road prep by the overeager local council, but decided to spray some atom-mac over the wheels, in the wheel bays, and lower body of the car, and brave the salty road to the dealership:

Brake fluid changed ✅
Diff oil changed ✅
Engine oil & filter changed ✅
New cabin filter ✅
Wash and vac declined ✅

Back home, jet-washed sills, under front, under rear, wheels, and bays with nice clean water. 🏁

Just need a dry day now for a proper clean ready for a few months hybernation.

I purposely moved my service from December to the end of October for that reason. No way it’s coming out in December to get covered in salt.

Just taxed it for another 12 months. I'll be getting the service and MOT booked on Monday for sometime in the next two or three weeks.

Continuing to pile the miles on since the new job. Did a 400 mile round trip this week, plus a few other biggish trips.

Car is absolutely filthy inside and out!

3rd year service done this week at Abbey Motorsport, along with the first MOT and a four wheel alignment, waiting for some better weather to see if the added front camber will make much difference on the road.

Having only done about 300 miles since the second service 10 weeks ago, I’ve decided to install a battery tender to stop me feeling that it “needs a run” every week or so. I’d normally do about 1000 miles in that time, having done almost exactly 5,000 miles per year for both years of ownership.

The reduction seems to be due to a combination of having a less restrictive schedule so being able to cycle to work more, meetings moving to virtual for one reason or another (e.g. tube strikes), and fewer family days out now summer is over. The one big drive we did in October required 4 people’s luggage for a week in Whitby, a shame as the roads up that way are amazing, but parking was terrible and my wife’s car did come back covered in salt, so maybe for the best.

I’m in and out of the garage pretty much every day for one reason or another, and I sometimes question the value of having it as I look at it sitting unused. Then I drive it and have an “I’ve missed this!” moment. I’ll keep it and adjust my expectations for how much time I get behind the wheel - for now. At least it’s not losing much value, and I expect I’ll go through phases of using it a lot more as career and family dynamics change.

I occasionally go through the same thought process however it's worth remembering that with almost zero depreciation, half decent fuel economy, low maintenance costs and a 10 year warranty our cars give us reliable and fun motoring for such little money.

I can't think of another car that gives the same balance of smiles, cheap running and reliability.

We've got a dull hatchback for the boring journeys which means that almost every drive in the 86 is special and memorable even if that does mean it sometimes sits in the garage doing nothing for weeks.

Pretty much me too. Easier and safer to use the Swift for daily duties. Drove it back from the service yesterday and didn't go home until I'd done half a tank of fuel and refuelled. I'd really missed it. Will get a proper clean next dry weekend and will be away for Winter. If our councils didn't drop the Dead Sea's worth of salt and grit down I'd use it more over Winter. With the traction mod it's even better in the wet. Yes you can still slide but is harder to and more progressive when it does let go.

And they did the washer for the window. Bliss.

Service done and moted too. Disappointed with the dealer experience to be honest but the good independents are too far away. I don't care much for the warranty as that would prevent me from modding it and make it my own so even though they are far away I am going to consider using them instead.
