GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

I found this video of someone installing Alcantara wrapped vents. Install starts at 4.20:

As an aside, I thought the vents he was fitting looked pretty nice. They are available on https://www.eightyzips.com/, along with some other nice looking stuff. Most interesting is an Alcantara wrapped replacement for the big ugly bit of trim above the glovebox:

I am seriously weighing up whether I want to splash the cash and order one, as it will come from the US and no doubt have import charges, as well as being pretty pricey in the first place :D

Think eightyzips has folded but don't quote me on that. I think I read on Facebook that he seemed not to be in business anymore

'Back in the day' I had the similar trim piece on my GT86 covered in alcantara, by a local trim place. Extended it to cover the trim around the ICE too. Had a nice stitch detail that matched that on the seats. Seemed to be very popular on that model with the interior being so mismatched in style.
Not sure how easy that bit 'pops off' on the GR though

Yeah I had the same. On the video I posted above you literally just open the glovebox and pull that bit of trim out.

not today, but I have been looking for new wheels for some time now. I was interested in Advan TC-4 for the 86/BRZ cup in Japan, however Advan came back asking for the BRZ/86 cup registration, which I obviously don't have. :D I did some digging around and social engineering, fast forward few weeks and here we are!

@unrealpatrik Nice work…. Look good. Any different in the feeling of ride quality etc etc…??

I fitted Falken FK520, which is a great tire. Perfect balance between grip, safety, comfort, fun. It is hard to explain but it feels like the car is driving straight finally… with my other set of PS4 and especially Primacies I felt like I have to micro correct the steering wheel all the time.

Eventhough the tire is wider, the car didn’t lose any fun. The car feel better than ever now. Also tiny bit quieter. I will definitely stay with this setup for now.

Nice, I like Advan wheels, they accommodate alot of usable fitments in 5x100 too. White on white is always a winner.

Went with my mates for a spin around Gower. First time I've done this since I was 19 as after this I was full on with Uni so didn't have time or money to. Old college mates who I would spin about with I lost touch with, then was always working after it. Changed jobs to work in Mid Wales so spent loads of time on Mid Wales roads learning loads and improving by quite a bit. When I moved back home to Swansea I was the only one left into cars so got a bike again. Found new biker mates who I'd ride with and now a few of them are giving up riding for a bit because of life reasons, wanted a hot hatches again and one has an EV because family. It was great fun and it wound the clock right back as I'm 36 now. Lots of spins planned this year.

Great having this on the doorstep too.

Gave me good chance to test out the MCA traction mod and definitely makes a difference at corner exit. Was a warm day so tyres had no issue with heat but at corner exits I was being pretty heavy with the throttle to catch the other two and even in track mode and with the light wheels it really did leap out of corners. Lot of the driving here is below 60 anyway, lots of 2nd and 3rd gear corners. But it's good in the faster bends too. Exhaust is bedding in nicely. Is popping more now it's had another heat cycle.

Start of a big road trip in the BRZ. I am going from Copenhagen through the U.K. to Ireland to undertake a good bit of the Wild Atlantic Way. First part was a 5:45 start from home across Germany to Dunkirk ferry port arriving after a gentle cruise at 9 p.m.

IMG_6679.webp

I then camped in the passenger seat to get a good number of hours sleep before hitting the 5a.m. ferry check in. Surprising comfortable all reclined out and I keep two cushion in the back seat ‘divots’ under a dog cover which make it even more tolerable. Quite a sight I am sure- Dunkirk ferry car park had 15 campervans setup and me!

One comedy horror moment on my ferry to Germany. Opened my door to put in my stuff then went to get a bottle of water from the boot. In the meantime the huge metal sliding doors to the ferry stairs opens moves along the wall and catches my door pinning it against the wall and blocking the metal door from opening fully. People are fighting to push the ferry door open and I try to get them to just stop to allow it to auto close…. I fear the worst huge bent door…. hinges out of alignment etc. In the end I think I have escaped with close to no damage. Perhaps there is just a tiny deflection in the door skin behind the door handle…. if the door had auto closed on its own I would never have known. Basically huge relief and a warning to everyone out there to remember this tale next time you are on a ferry

Have a good trip and may the door on the ferry be the only incident..

First track day at Bedford today, met @ninjin (a pleasure meeting you Alan) and another gr86. There were 3 gr86s and a BRZ. Ninjin car goes well, obviously credit to the driver.
I managed around 15 laps in total I think. Took it easy as no oil cooler meant temps reached 120celsius. It cools down quickly to 110celsius if you let off a bit, but still no fun if you can only do one hot lap, so that will be next on the mods list.
Car behaved well aside from that, I have 225 section tires Dunlop Sport max 2 on 17" wheels so. Brakes didn't cause any issues, I have the apracing 330mm kit at the front and sti replica at the back.
I did hit the limiter a couple of times so maybe I need to get an exhaust but it is one of the last things I want to do as I am very conscious of my elderly neighbours,
Left at 5:30am, home by 4:30pm

@CPH6R I found folding down the rear of rear seats and crawling in head first to the boot and laying across diagonally in sleeping bag is comfy and dark enough to sleep ok. Have key fob up in with and you can pop the boot lid open to see around lol. ENJOY Trip.

Thanks been planning this trip for a couple years…. I’ve heard great things about the Wild Atlantic Way. It’s fingers crossed for the Irish weather though!

A sleeping bag would have made car camping even better… I forgot and woke up cold! Luckily there is a great ticket office at Dunkirk that was super warm and I even had a lovely DFDS lady offer to pop the kettle and make me a cup of coffee.
