GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Fitted the Ottocast Mini. Wireless android auto thats slightly less clutter than the pre dongle versions.

It seems to do the job! I could acutally use the cup holders for drinks now... if drinks weren't banned!
Is there one of these dongles that allow to do screen mirroring of RaceChrono apps? The one supporting android auto don't allow it but I have seen people in the US that've figured out a way

Ideally I'd like to wirelessly charge the phone, then use one of those.
Yeah I did try looking around for in car wireless charging pads, but could never really find a decent one that fit nicely in either car. And I think wireless charging can generate a lot of heat. So now I use a wireless dongle, and have stuck a Brodit cradle in the glovebox. For just popping down the shops or whatever, I can keep my phone in my pocket and still get AA. If I'm going further I just slip the phone into the glovebox cradle and keep it charged.

Had a nice evening drive around the countryside, then watched the sunset with the 86 😌

Ouch. Someone clonk it while it was parked?
On the plus side....the mirror glass should be dead easy to replace. Just prise it out, unclip the heating wires, and replace. Is is just the glass that's damaged?

Narrow lane, car coming in opposite direction. Completely knocked out the glass but doesn't appear to be any other damage other than having to pop the casinging back in a bit. The mirrors swing in quite easily so that must have taken most of the hit.
Called Toyota as soon as i got to work, replacement ordered for just under £154!

Could not resist, you don't see many models in Ice Silver... 😁 It has no ducktail or rear badge. If I scrape a few of the wheels then it will be as close as possible to our own...

Found some instructions on how to remove the driver's air vent this afternoon. Much easier than anticipated, so I've been sat in the car with the vent in my lap attaching strips of felt rattle tape to every part of it which looks like it touches hard plastic. Desperately trying to get rid of that annoying creaking which happens on cold mornings. Of course, the weathers warmed up now, so I won't know if I've cured it for a few months...

Also, all this direct sunlight has highlighted that I seem to have loads of swirl marks appearing on my door. Not sure how, I've been studious in washing the car - only ever touch it with a good quality mitt and shampoo, two buckets, all that jazz. Even use filtered water to avoid having to use a towel to dry. Yet still, swirls are appearing. Really wish we had good quality, hard paintwork. Can't wait for overcast weather again....

Interesting 🤔, for me it's the passenger side that creaks when cold!
Do share those instructions on getting the vent out though and I'll have a go when it gets cold and creaks again.

Currently got my passenger door rattling with da bass from the excellent focals. Think I need to attack it with felt tape / a hammer

I found this video of someone installing Alcantara wrapped vents. Install starts at 4.20:

As an aside, I thought the vents he was fitting looked pretty nice. They are available on https://www.eightyzips.com/, along with some other nice looking stuff. Most interesting is an Alcantara wrapped replacement for the big ugly bit of trim above the glovebox:

I am seriously weighing up whether I want to splash the cash and order one, as it will come from the US and no doubt have import charges, as well as being pretty pricey in the first place :D

Some mouth breather in a 20-ton aggregate lorry hadn't secured his load cover properly on the A2 the morning. Didn't even get that close, and took several hits from rocks that were big enough to see coming, and even hit me two lanes away. Sounded like the end of the world when they hit me. Checked for damage when I got to work and only found a mercifully small chip on the front wing, but I am certain there will be more on the roof and probably bonnet with a closer inspection. Also found a hairline crack in the front bumper (although to be fair, that could be the encounter I had with a muntjac in Suffolk a few weeks back, as there was no chip in the paint).

Looks like I'll be breaking out the Chipex kit later. Really hate having to commute in this car, especially as it's made of tissue paper. I know it's nothing in the grand scheme of things, but it gets me down watching scrapes and scratches appear.
Sorry to hear that. Bear in mind Chipex is useless with pearlescent paint. Fine with metallic or solid. Toyota touch up pearlescent paint is actually very good. Just takes a lot of thin coats and patience to make a chip unnoticeable. Good luck with it.

Despite paying extra for it for being "pearlescent", electric blue is actually just a plain solid colour. Guess I should be thankful for that when it comes to touch ups. I had pearlescent white on my GT86 and it was a nightmare for repairs.

In mine that ugly space is taken up by my 'cheap-n-cheerful' AliExpress tray that serves as a decent stowage for wallet, key fob and an emergency bag of IRN Bru Jelly Babies.
