GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Start of a big road trip in the BRZ. I am going from Copenhagen through the U.K. to Ireland to undertake a good bit of the Wild Atlantic Way. First part was a 5:45 start from home across Germany to Dunkirk ferry port arriving after a gentle cruise at 9 p.m.

I then camped in the passenger seat to get a good number of hours sleep before hitting the 5a.m. ferry check in. Surprising comfortable all reclined out and I keep two cushion in the back seat ‘divots’ under a dog cover which make it even more tolerable. Quite a sight I am sure- Dunkirk ferry car park had 15 campervans setup and me!

One comedy horror moment on my ferry to Germany. Opened my door to put in my stuff then went to get a bottle of water from the boot. In the meantime the huge metal sliding doors to the ferry stairs opens moves along the wall and catches my door pinning it against the wall and blocking the metal door from opening fully. People are fighting to push the ferry door open and I try to get them to just stop to allow it to auto close…. I fear the worst huge bent door…. hinges out of alignment etc. In the end I think I have escaped with close to no damage. Perhaps there is just a tiny deflection in the door skin behind the door handle…. if the door had auto closed on its own I would never have known. Basically huge relief and a warning to everyone out there to remember this tale next time you are on a ferry
I just returned from my trip Prague - Copenhagen. How cool! Safe travels!

I will leave these pics from the trip here. I took her on a ferry for the first time, german pensioners were looking at her and scratching their heads like "Was ist das?". I also randomly walked by the Royal Car Park during maintenance.

not today, but I have been looking for new wheels for some time now. I was interested in Advan TC-4 for the 86/BRZ cup in Japan, however Advan came back asking for the BRZ/86 cup registration, which I obviously don't have. :D I did some digging around and social engineering, fast forward few weeks and here we are!

Thanks been planning this trip for a couple years…. I’ve heard great things about the Wild Atlantic Way. It’s fingers crossed for the Irish weather though!

A sleeping bag would have made car camping even better… I forgot and woke up cold! Luckily there is a great ticket office at Dunkirk that was super warm and I even had a lovely DFDS lady offer to pop the kettle and make me a cup of coffee.

@CPH6R North East (Antrim) coast is good as well. If near Belfast give me a DM / shout.

Enjoy your trip to Ireland, we have plenty of roads for enjoyment but worth driving, on the smaller ones with caution and windows down as while we have a lot of roads that get used for rallies, they are open and local / farm traffic is probable plus other tourists so best to try hear them before it’s too late!

As @Noel McC mentions, there are some good roads up that neck of the woods too!
(Torr Head is a rollercoaster)

I think I had the first GR86 on Irish soil (that isn’t a Japanese import) back in August ‘23
Even did some of the Wild Atlantic Way
😁

@bf1_irl Nice. Agree points above. I Have not Road tripped the GR86 yet…. I still use motorbikes for trips, ferry’s easier etc.

But like to take car(s) to Cliffs of Moher road etc as I remember was great on motorbike.

Drove out to Hopetoun House and had a wander around the 'Scottish Italian Car Day' that was being held there. A few lovely motors including a rare Maserati MC20. Nowt to match the bright blue GR86 in the car park though ...

Gave the car a wash - hadn't had the bonnet up for 4 weeks and discovered what appears to have once been a mouse on top of the batter, together with related detritus. Use the car daily and park outside so a bit surprised to find this. No sign of nibbling anywhere so probably got toasted soon after checking in. Neighbours cat needs to be fed less....

@MorrisM, was it a mouse's corpse or just fur/hair? I only ask because the European Robin is quite adept at getting into tight spaces and making nests from anything they can find - I had to put masking tape over the grille of our Nissan Navara because I noticed a Robin flying out one morning. Despite my efforts I later found a nest behind the headlight. It seems the determined little blighter decided it could also get into the engine bay from underneath! 🐦

It could well have been the makings of a nest - it’s at the bottom the wheelie bin now but I don’t recall seeing a tail. I’ll be keeping an eye out now for any return visits!

Was stoked to come across an opportunity for some formation parking when I saw another 86 in a car park this morning, but the sketchy parking skills of the neighbour in the next space kinda put me off 🤷‍♂️

Post for today (and yesterday)

2nd year service, took it to Jemca Toyota Reading yesterday morning. Drop off was nice and easy and I made “tripley” sure that they did not clean it, as it’s ceramic coated. Happy to say they listened and it was left as dirty as it went 😅 It maybe placebo…but the gear shift feels much smoother than it did beforehand - I don’t think any fluids for the transmission are replaced from reading the sheet, but I could be wrong. Overall good experience.

And today, I found out that you can save people’s birthdays on the infotainment system. So, this morning when starting it up I was told it was TOP G WIL’s birthday, so many happy returns to him…I guess 🤷‍♂️ 😂
