GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

With car shows and a bit of travel coming up, I flirted with the idea of buying an ‘IK e Foam 2’ electric pump sprayer to add to my car show detailing kit, but over £90 for a hand sprayer seemed a bit steep! So I made something similar instead: Bought the cheaper IK Foam Pro 2 Plus (with schrader valve) and a small rechargeable inflator (from Amazon), which I can use to maintain the sprayer pressure at 3 Bar for good foam coverage. All tested and proved on the GR86 this weekend, with the 1.5L of solution managing to do the whole car (albeit not in super thick foam). Roll on some hotel car park fettling! That'll do pig ...

I never had any doubt but a trial fit means I wont be selling my car. Try doing that in an alpine!

Well done! The wife and I had a trip with our (then) 2 year old to Belgium and back - amazing what you can achieve with a bit of ‘can do’ attitude!

Sure you already have, but do get a sun screen for the rear window - it’s a bit of a greenhouse in the back!

Over the past few days, finally got it washed (after plenty of grim winter weather commuting), hit a mileage milestone and had it back at a dealer for the appropriate service. Funnily enough the parking space I had at work was occupied by a GRY once I got back from the dealership in the courtesy car #GRParkingOnly
Sounds like another GR86 (in Red) was serviced at the same place today too 👋

I see you are in Warwickshire.... where did you get your 86 serviced? (Same colour as mine !)

I picked up a door ding on the passenger wing recently so I had a PDR booked in to sort it this morning. All good, dent sorted but the chap managed to lightly scratch my wing. :(

Not the end of the world, I have PPF installed so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to see if it's "self healing" properties worked .

Said scratch

A fair few passes with a heat gun made it look like this (terrible)

Let the panel cool, wiped it over and bugger me it actually worked (y)

That's cracking. I must admit, I am regretting not getting PPF....now that I'm commuting again, I'm picking up the odd stone chip on the front end. I also have a tiny door ding to sort, as you're fairly local I would ask for a the guys number, but maybe not if he scratches cars too :D

I fitted the Whiteline bushes to my steering rack this morning. Not much immediately noticeable difference over the already installed extended bolts, although I only took it around the block to make sure nothing fell off. But I'm at least glad to have replaced the bush that I tore up.

In general, if anyone else is looking to improve the steering a little, I'd recommended the extended STI rack bolts at least. It's not a huge difference, but it has made the steering feel a little less vague and more intuitive...one area where I think most people agree the second gen fell short compared the first gen.

I took the car for a Sunday morning blast (first of the year) at the weekend. Pretty confident that it's not just a placebo, the steering does seem to feel a little more direct just off centre. Whiteline bushes are already in the post, hoping I'll have time to fit those this week and tighten it up a bit further.
Think I asked before but where did you get the bolts from?

It was actually Wednesday but I decided the salt is gone now so I actually drove it!
I booked a service too! Monday... so I'll fit the new pads this weekend so they don't flag up knackered pads at under 5k miles.

Interesting idea that you can keep them pressurised off a handheld gizmo. I use a pumped handle foamer at the local jetwash, wonder if its adaptable to use something like this.

Elsewhere, bought front camber bolts and booked in next week for summer tyre fitment and alignment in time for Japfest and a Scotland trip immediately after. I've also got something exciting in air freight, hopefully it arrives before Japfest.

Was on my way to meet someone in Milton Keynes and came across an Emira going the same way. He was right on my bumper after coming off a roundabout so I moved over to let him through. He overtook me and proceeded to boot it down the road. Me being me thought I’d follow and have a play. Those things can shift! Sounded good too.

After some spirited driving, we went in different directions and gave each other a knowing nod. Love little interactions like that. Anyone one got both or had some recent good driving experiences in their 86?

Must have been the V6 version (Toyota supercharged engine), coz the 2L turbo units barely make a sound. They have to move fast though, so you can’t see the paint bubbling 🤫

Indeed - the knowing nod of someone appreciating the machinery or the driving is part of what makes backroad blasting such a pleasure.

On my return from the Berkshires (Reading) today I was leading some young lads in an old Corsa VXR. Contrary to the usual image , their car control was quite reasonable. The reciprocated knowing nod and thumbs up was a nice pleasantry to have after an enjoyable few miles through oxfordshire.

It's a shame that there seems to be issues with it as it looks like it has all the ingredients to be a fab car. I wonder if anyone has thought about putting that engine in an 86??

I spotted my first Ice Silver GR86 in the wild yesterday, 'G1 MUF' heading out of Muirkirk. Hopefully enjoying that road to Douglas 😁
