GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Sounds good and will probably compliment my other mods well. Apart from bush replacement is the rest pretty simple? Is everything easy to get to with the front lifted on axle stands?

Yes. The most work is removing bits to get to the rack, but it's not too bad, I did it on axle stands as well.
- Remove the metal engine undertray and the plastic one just behind.
- You'll see a pair of triangular braces to the subframe, these have to come off - three bolts each (14mm heads I think).
- If you're changing the bushes, you'll need to lower the rack so you can get behind them, so for this you'll need to move the anti-roll bar down - remove the 4x 14mm bolts and it should drop enough to give you room. One of the bolts is a bit hidden under the plastic trim near the jacking point, remove the clips holding that in to give you room to get behind the trim.
- If you're just changing the bolts, you might not have to drop the rack - it's as simple as removing the old ones, and replacing with the new ones and their associated hardware.

Passenger side is pretty easy, just make sure to thread it in by hand, maybe take the weight of the rack as you do so as it will feel quite tight. Driver's side is a little more tricky because the front pipe is in the way - but if you move the rack down a touch, you should just have room to slide the new bolt into it, then reposition it to thread through the subframe. Makes it a bit of a pain because you have to thread the bolt in quite far before you have room to get a socket on the end of it, but it's doable.

Sorry, I should have taken some pictures, but hopefully the above will become clear once you're under there. I used the video below as a guide. Only difference was the GR86 has the two triangular braces I mentioned above.

250 miles or so around some of Scotlands finest roads, through South Lanarkshire, Scottish Borders and Dumfries & Galloway.

No passenger today so it got an extra good stretch 😬. A better car for the money I cannot think of.

Mine got a good clean today and I spotted a little stone chip at the bottom of the passenger door. It's one of those small ones that you only find when giving the car a good clean. But now i know its there. :( The paint is so soft on these cars!

Yesterday saw me take the GR86 across to the Alpine Centre in Glasgow for a test drive in an A110. I can see the draw. Unfortunately, the price of the incoming GTS puts it up against some serious competition with a less steep depreciation curve. I then got to spend half an hour in a traffic jam on the M80 on the way home… At least it was sunny 😎.
Next up something EV maybe, like the BYD Seal? 🦭 🤷‍♂️

Have had quite a frustrating week trying to book in an oil change (providing my own Millers Oil and OEM filter) with Vertu Motors dealerships in the West Coast of Scotland. They all said that they are unwilling to provide servicing to vehicles unless they source the parts themselves. The service manager in Ayr also said that not using Toyota oil would void my warranty! Nonsense.

Was wondering if anyone knows if this is a dealer network specific issue or perhaps coming down from Toyota UK corporate? They must have found out we're saving money buying stuff from Fensport..

My car had its first major service with Snow's in Hampshire back in October and they were happy with me providing my own oil and filter, giving a hefty discount to the overall cost. Would be concerned moving forwards with main dealer servicing to maintain the warranty if they stop allowing this.

Give Stirling (Eastern Western Motor Group) a try, see how you get on. Is the filter a Toyota labelled one, or OEM by a manufacturer? On the oil, just use their own. If you don't need a stamp in the book, don't want to extend your warranty, an indy may just suit you down to a tee. Maybe sounds like wishing to stick to the Millers Oil (which may be a better spec) is a hinderance, again, unless an indy does it for you. All factors to consider I suppose. Good luck!

From their point of view I can see why. Asa business, marking up products Is part of their business model, and how do they know that yiu haven't just put crap oil in a miller's tub and they're putting their name to the service?
That said. I took my own miller's oil and OEM filter and crush washer to an indy, the did the service for 50 quid and signed the book.
I dont like dealerships 😁

It's a genuine Toyota (Subaru) oil filter - SU003-08412. Unfortunately they refused to do the oil change even using their own oil, the filter would have to be supplied by them or they wouldn't touch it.

Local Subie specialist was asking £106 for the oil change with filter/oil supplied by me, hence why I tried the dealerships who initially quoted me £84 a few weeks ago. Just realised I never ordered the crush washer during my last Fensport order - am I goosed without that or is it a standard size most garages would carry?

That just sounds crazy with respect to the oil filter. I would have thought a Subaru Indy should have those washers sitting in stock tbh.

Yeah I'm really surprised and can only presume it's been a recent policy change with that dealer network. Ordered a couple washers just in case. Car will probably be in better hands with an independent Subaru specialist anyway haha.

Have been having a blast driving the past few weeks in this nice weather. All those cold winter months made me forget how smooth those gear shifts can be!

Both my Yr1 & Yr2 Warranty Services were completed by Duncan at ‘Hypertech’ in Bonnybridge. He’s a Subaru specialist and a long time owner of a tuned GT86 (now sold on). Still having an internal debate with myself as to where I’ll go for my Yr3 (int) Service - although Duncan may have retired by then so I may be forced back to OEM.

Earliest my local garage can do is 30th April so had actually been looking at Hypertech, will give them a ring tomorrow and see. The further away the garage I use the more driving I get to do! Who knows, maybe I'll end up at Toyota Helensburgh who my car's previous owner serviced it with 😂

Tell Duncan (or his wife Alex) that Bryan from Dunfermline on the GR-Zoo forum suggested his place, it might help them find a slot for you if they know you're part of the same group as me and Alistair. Be aware that there ain't much to do in Bonnybridge apart from a crappy local cafe. The swiftbus (oh the irony) from the High street also takes about 30 minutes to get to Falkirk, the nearest 'metropolis' ...

Another fantastic experience at Vertu Toyota Hamilton, from start to finish this morning. I worked away for a few hours in the 'business centre' after arriving for opening time, whilst the 20k service was carried out. Smooth as a button, everything done that I asked for including a few extras, checked a couple of things and adding the padding to the base of the A-pillars to stop the rattles (I took the B-roads home to Ayrshire, and it works!). Also, a couple of batteries for the key fobs provided and away we go. No valet as requested and the health check was good. Although I do like the use of brakes for sure! :) Cannot be more positive about Fiona's team on front desk, and Ryan the GR tech. Spot on. Nice coffee too!!
