GR86 Importing my 2023 JDM BRZ

This intake seemed to get positive feedback so it was the option I’ve been swaying towards. I could live with an improvement in sound but no increase in performance but I couldn’t square fitting something that decreases power just to get the noise.

I have this. Although they claim a slight increase in power, like you, I just wanted better sound without power loss. So far, it certainly doesn't feel less powerful to me, but as a road driver who probably pushes his car less than most, I might not be the best judge.

I was going to wait and see how Martin got on at Abbey with the Eventrui...even though I'm not after more power, I'd still consider an Ecutek tune for things like better throttle mapping and cold start delete, and thought in that instance it might be worth seeing if any more power can be extracted. I know the Eventuri isn't exactly the same intake, but it's about the closest competitor to the Infinity one in terms of design.

My intention would be to pair it with a sports catted manifold, full exhaust and Ecutek tune. I fully expect there to be very little in respect to power increases. I just want the car to be more sonorous, breathe/rev a little more freely, improve throttle pedal input and reduce or eliminate the rev hang.

How did you find the fit, finish and sound of the infinity?

Apologies to the OP for the slight thread derailment.

Finish is excellent. Sound is great and very noticeable, but only at high revs and open throttle.
Fit is fine; although there is a minor flaw in the design, the steel bracket which holds the plenum makes contact with the bonnet latch under load. Infinity are aware of he issue and have modified their design. I've been in touch with them and they are in the process of modifying a bracket and sending it to me.

Here is the response from Eventuri. They say that my car is not stock (i.e. a US or UK stock build). The gains they claim are not valid for a car with no charcoal filter, K&N air filter and an Outbound Motorsport GR Cup intake horn. The fact that Mark’s best tune could not even match the tune I already had for the above remains unexplained.

Mark’s tune showed signs of a resonance or some other disturbance when he added fuel to bring the burn back to optimum when the Eventuri made the car run lean as installed. After all efforts were exhausted, the Eventuri made less torque/power and there was no getting around it.

The Eventuri’s performance does not match my expectations and I have asked Abbey to return the car to the previous setup with previous tune.

So it's that charcoal filter at play again. From what I've read, that thing saps the power of US cars quite a bit, so any American owner who installs an aftermarket intake will see an increase in power by default. Whereas for everyone else, gains will be minimal.

Abbey were quite impressed with the Outbound Motorsport intake horn, too.

Still amazes me that the Eventuri could not match them. The problems Mark had tuning it makes me wonder just how well flowed it was under load conditions.

That's a shame, are you able to get a refund on the Eventuri intake? It shows how little margin there is for improvement on these intakes. It's interesting because Infinity Design originally went down the same design route as Eventuri, positioning the filter straight in front of the throttle body, with dual cold feeds, they realised that approach didn't give them the performance they wanted, so moved it into a similar route to the stock setup.

What was it Abbey were impressed with regarding the outbound Motorsport snorkel? That's the GR cup car one right?

Money back is still under discussion. It's coming off anyway as I won't accept a power loss.

It's just that the Outbound contributes to a good overall performance shown here

It's certainly an interesting situation that their power increase claims are equivalent to cutting the diaper out of the airbox in the US. Maybe with those intake ducts, it needs a decent amount of road speed to get proper airflow.

Do you intend to add FI to your car? I read through your gen1 BRZ thread last week so it seems you're no stranger to it. By the time you've bought a couple of carbon fibre intakes, you're half way there.

I was in discussion with Mark about getting a Harrop SC early last year, but by the time it was available, I had a broken back to recover from so I had to abandon it. I'm all good now, but have just had a kid, and the other FI kits on the market are confusing me. Either way, it would be great to hear a more detailed write-up from a customer in the UK if you do.

It's a good question and one that I have been mulling over. The key difference between my BRZ Gen1 and now is that one fell short of what I wanted from a good looking and well handling sports car. I once had a remapped BMW 335d M-Sport Coupe and, while that couldn't hold a candle to the BRZ in handling, it was grunty as hell in a straight line. The Harrop sorted out the power issue but then I became aware of the chassis limitations of the Gen1.

This Gen2 has plenty of go, better handling and performance that I find satisfying. Do I need more? Not really, is the answer I keep hearing. It's great hustling a lightweight sports car with just enough power through the twisties while keeping up with more powerful machinery. The balance seems perfect to me.

Never say never, though!

Sorry, I really didn't read this properly. Firstly, very sorry to hear about your back and I hope you have recovered ok. Congratulations also on the baby. A stressful year for you!

The Harrop is a great supercharger and I very much enjoyed having it on the old BRZ. It woke up that FA20, for sure. The great thing about this style of supercharger is that it generates torque from low in the rev range and builds up as a wall of torque until the red line. The other supercharger I like is the Vortech, which is a turbine-style charger.

No worries. My back is fine now, but it certainly held up a few plans last year. I've since had Tuning developments NA package with UEL manifold fitted, which has made the car a lot more entertaining.
From reading your Gen1 thread you went a similar route. I'm in a predicament of which way to go from here. My last car had 320ish hp and my concern is that if I go the supercharger route, I'll end up wanting for more in the future. I know power isn't everything with these cars, but I also know what I'm like.

Also, with having the manifold, overpipe and ecutek licence from the TD turbo kit already, I could have that installed for significantly less than the price of the Harrop. Which certainly factors into things as well as the performance ceiling.

Thanks for the congratulations. The baby has made me a little less willing to flippantly spend on my car, but I've had the money for FI sat there a while and I've mentally spent it on my car already 😅 i just cant make my mind up.

I drove home late this evening from Caffeine & Machine on very quiet country roads. That drive made me think about what is important in a car. I came to the conclusion - once again - that it isn't just power. Now that I have a chassis and setup that handles so very well, power becomes less important (and, it's torque not power that counts) and my respect for the design of the car increases. It's at times like this my head says "nah, I really don't need more power. Just focus on honing my driving skills".

As I said before, never say never. However, I'm going to be happy with what I have for now and just enjoy it.

I agree with your thoughts totally.... That's another reason why I've not really had any urgency to Turbo mine. It's taken me numerous track days over 2years to get the car to where I am enjoying it on the track and feel confident pushing it hard.

Would more power be beneficial... Sure it would bring a big grin on my face but really only on the road, winding up all the drivers of faster cars who wanted to 'give it a ago'. On the circuit I'm more interested in finding the right line and improving myself.

At present I'm still prioritising track mods. Next is the OS Giken LSD, Bucket seat and maybe some new coilovers. Once the car is sorted out for track, then I'll start looking at Turbo again, which wont be till spring/summer 2026.

Subaru badges (I found a way to get mine despite being in the UK). Mounted on the glove box.

What do these represent. Are they achievement rewards? my best guess is; 2nd subaru owned, 100k kilometers, heart surgery performed in the back, gave an apple to the MOT guy, meditating while the engine gets replaced.

Surely the most coveted would be shaking a 5 star wanted level using a particularly twisty back country road to evade capture.

LOL! Being Subaru US, the 100k is miles (did 130k in my previous BRZ). Otherwise, close enough...
They're self-administered and just a bit of fun.
