GR86 GR86 Space saver?

That looks all right. I have one from the same shop and there's a minor scuff on the wheel itself (fine) and my tyre looks like it's plastic with a rubbish diamond shape tread pattern - I wouldn't trust mine above 20mph, let alone 50. Yours looks like a proper tyre at least.

It's still a linglong special 😂

Whatever is on it is preferable to the foam, and should see you to nearby garage.

I used to joke about ling long too.... But they've come a long way. Much better than a lot of the European made, name unheard of the trash on sale now.

For an emergency space saver, no issues at all!

Wheel and kit arrived today (Tue), ordered Sunday night. Quality looks good, advert says may be used, but looks brand new to me, maybe refurbished. Tyre is brand new and has 2023 code. Tool kit all new too.

Not tried on car yet. Tried to do some rough measurements and all seems fine.
Looks good, especially if the tyre is new.

Make sure you try it on, mine was completely wrong, but from another supplier.

Following your link, I see "This 17″ spare wheel is suitable for cars equipped with 17″ wheels from the factory", which is obviously true and ok for the GT86, but my question is, would this present an issue when used on a GR86 running the original 18's?

No. Most Spacesaver wheels are 17" with the diameter/circumference made up to the OEM size with the taller space saver tyre. As long as the bolt pattern matches and the wheel will clear the calipers then you are good to go. There are several wheel and tyre comparison tools online.

The GT86 and GR86 use the same brake setup. Unless you have changed your brake calipers, fitment will not be an issue.

Ah, understood. So (and maybe I'm overthinking this) if thewheelshop's wheel is designed for the GT86 then the tyre build-up is suited to that, so the comparison should be as below?
Presumably then what we are saying is that as there is such an insignificant difference in the circumference that it makes it suitable? and that all the other factors don't matter?

You'll get that difference in tyre wear between a brand new and used rubber.

As you said, it's insignificant.

Mine just arrived too. Not bad VFM.

I got one of these too, arrived this morning, looks brand new with a 2023 'LingLong' tyre - not sure if the brand any good but should be ok for emergencies.
Has anyone tried to fit these 17" space saver wheels on the car yet - back and front? Just want to confirm it fits to save me the bother

So have we got a definitive answer now to the space saver conundrum - ie the 17ins wheel from 'The Wheel Shop' is fine on the GR running on 18ins wheels and it fits on the existing bolt pattern with no problem and no interference with calipers or anything else? As a non-expert, I'd appreciate an assurance.

My nearside rear tyre picked up a screw yesterday driving down the A1 and I had to use the dreaded sealant. Thank goodness for the tyre pressure warning on the dash. I then had to drive 100 miles at around 55mph in the dark. I think the sealant may be water-based, so what are the chances of a washout and repair do you think boys?

The whole experience made me decide to try and get a space saver (even though I'd have to drive at the same speed). At least it should avoid having to buy a new tyre if the punctured one can't be repaired and reused.

normally the tyre shops 'won't' repair a tyre that has had gunk in it.

My order from T-W-S arrived today, unused wheel with a new BFGoodrich tyre. Can’t confirm either way re. fitment but happy to update after the weekend when I have done a trial fit.

Can however confirm that the jack that they supply does not fit in the profiled polystyrene section under the floor. Oh and the ratchet style jacking handle looks to be of questionable quality. Will probably try to source the proper Toyota items to replace these.

Toyota Direct Parts have the jack, etc…

I was looking to buy the jack & handle, but got a message this morning from TDP:
"Good morning,
Toyota has still not provided us a solid ETA. It is on backorder still, we unfortunately have zero stock."

Looking forward to your report Alistair31. Presumably a 17" going on with 3 existing 18"s.

Just get a used set from a GT86. Fits perfectly into the foam cutouts.
