GR86 Focal 2 way component OEM retrofit

I'm assuming you can put a high pass filter on channels separately? Door speakers full range and the dash just for mids?
This is something I could do with more detail on. I understand the basics of high and low pass filters - but with the Focals, you have the door speakers with an integrated woofer, and the tweeters, but they'll all presumably be on the same channel (either left or right) so applying a high pass would stop the woofer from doing it's job...am I right in thinking that you just don't apply a filter to those channels because the speakers are a 2-way component and sort out the crossovers themselves?

The only thing I think you'd want to apply a filter to is the rear speakers because they are tiny and cheaply constructed from hope and dreams.

No, because the dash tweeters and door speakers are wired in parallel from factory.

But as to the PUZU, you can set every channel the way you want independently of other channels.

Yes no need to filter the focals, they have passive filter in the tweeter. One thing I use the PUZU for is to roll off the low frequencies, so the speaker doesn't get signals it has no chance of playing.

Speakers generally have a woofer and a tweeter. A high pass filter is simply to stop lower frequencies going to a speaker that can't handle them (particularly when you have satellite speakers and a sub).

(either left or right) so applying a high pass would stop the woofer from doing it's job..

It only stops the woofer doing it's job if you set it really high.

I'm happy with how it is now as it's better than stock. I've ordered one out of curiosity and put in the note about harness #7 so we'll see in a month. Hopefully it is a straightforward install.

Is the note about harness #7 after the purchase as I can't see where to add a note during checkout?

I messaged the seller through the AliX app before making the purchase (belt) and then sent a message about the item after purchase ( braces ). Once you've ordered, there is a 'contact seller' button on the order you can use for this.

Amp ordered, drove it this morning and for me the car needs the upgrade of the amp and speakers and supportive sound insulation behind the speakers, like the idea of being able to set the parameters of the speakers with the amp so great shout. Things have moved on a bit since the last time I looked at car audio.

Just fitted mine. I take it back, it has indeed done the Focals proud! I've basically used @ninjins settings (thanks for those) to start off with, but left the USB cable coiled in the glovebox if I want to make further adjustments. But even now, to my untrained ear, it sounds like they are delivering much richer and fuller sound, and definitely with more oomph - even with the Puzu volume set to only 30%, they are definitely amplified. I used to have the head unit volume set to about 15 or 16 before; now I have it set much lower (10 or so) for roughly the same level of output. I will see how it goes and fine tune, but for now it's already an improvement. I've also not driven the car yet, just sat in it flicking through my playlist for songs I know are particularly challenging and seeing how they have improved much to the delight of my neighbours, I'm sure.

Installation was pretty easy, just make sure you have something soft you can place on the gearstick and maybe a cloth or something to put under the head unit as you ease it forward, so you don't scratch the surrounding plastics. The harness plugs into the two connectors which are on the lower right hand side of the unit (looking from the front). I found it easier to also unplug the two large grey connectors above them, just for better access. Then I just passed it through the Puzu which I placed in the same place suggested, on the shelf above the glovebox, below the airbag. The only fiddly bit was sliding it into position - the connector for the airbag gets in the way a little. EDIT: DO NOT unplug this.

Very pleased!

Mine is here but I'll install another day. I take it I can just use the Android app to configure as I don't have a laptop and I don't fancy carting a gaming rig out to the garage.

Great to hear that PUZU hasn't disappointed with their fast delivery. It makes so much difference to the Focals and gives them the power they deserve.

I had a look at the APP and it's a chore to use with any accuracy. See if you can borrow a laptop. At least you can get some basic settings done, then use the APP for fine tuning on the fly.

You can probably just unplug that, which would give you loads of clearance to put the Puzu underneath, and then reconnect it. But some irrational part of me was scared of setting the airbag off, so I just eased it in carefully.

Very pleased!
Glad its worked out but DO NOT UNPLUG THE AIRBAG plug as you may need Techstream to clear the code.

Just use something to lift the airbag wire up out of the way (screwdriver, trim tool etc...) and you can squeeze it in without issue.

Run the cable out of the gap, plug in the PUZU and slide it in from the front of the dash to the back. Then tidy up the loose wiring.

Noted. Will update that post so no one stops reading there.

Did think about doing it now but I'll wait for light tomorrow. Sort of hoping even on base settings it should be better. What I'm reading from this picture is you've dropped volume down a bit and the rears? And grouping ticked.

Grouping makes any settings you make apply to that group. So I usually group front and group rear.

There is adjustment to the eq, the screen cap is for front settings.

Rear settings don't make much difference as it's got a low pass filter on the factory speaker already. But I put a 300hz lowpass on the PUZU for the rears.

The front speakers most important I think is the HP filter slope. I think 30hz with 18db slope gives the front speakers a chance to play what they can but without taking away too much lows.
