GR86 Focal 2 way component OEM retrofit

TBH, I think this would be worth fitting even before the Focals. In my Seat Tarraco I run a PUZU C11 (more channels on DSP but mainly got dedicated sub-out) and a rockford slimline sub. Speakers are all factory. Sounds amazing.

These DSP's are the way forward for bang for buck.

And no, before anyone asks, I ain't on commission from PUZU ;)

Agree with you again. My GT86 had the optional JBL sound pack, when I fitted a Kenwood headunit which had more power and inbuilt DSP it gave a decent boost to the sound power and quality.

I'm happy with how it is now as it's better than stock. I've ordered one out of curiosity and put in the note about harness #7 so we'll see in a month. Hopefully it is a straightforward install.
Same. @ninjins photo looked a bit involved, but after watching that video, it actually only looks like 3 pieces of trim to come out to get to the headunit.

yeah, its very very straightforward. I haven't broken any clips so far either from stripping down the car so many times. ;)

How have you found tuning the DSP, I assume it's done via a companion app? And do you just set the stock HU to it's default settings?
Forgive the questions; not much of an audiophile myself. I can fiddle with equalisers to my liking, but I like to hear what others suggest as a good baseline to work from.

I use a lap top. Once you have settings stored into the DSP memory, you can access them from the phone app. However, once set, I just leave it.

You work with everything on the HU to flat, everything, even the staging. switch off the virtual staging thingy. Let the DSP do it.

You can really do much with the back as its got a High Pass Filter on it. I just knocked down the volume to just give me enough for rear fill.

This can all be done on the software.

I cant find a picture of me using the laptop but here are the instructions.

Thanks. I guess I could run a USB cable into the glovebox to be able to connect to it in the future (although hopefully like you'll I'll just tweak it until it sounds good and then leave it.

Thanks for the very usual info on the audio upgrade Ninjin (y)

From reading the instructions, rather frustrating that Apple/IOS users are not supported.

I ran the cable behind the glove box. When not in use, just bundle it up and tuck it away or leave in the glovebox.

right... off to do the parking sensors now.
Parking sensors done if anyone is interested....

This is my current setting with the PUZU, not doubt will get tweaked in the coming weeks. May help you guys out as a starting point. But just have fun moving the sliders around. You can easily hit reset!

Depending on the type of music you listen to and also the sound source itself, you will have to adjust to your own tastes. Also, bear in mind what sounds good static with the engine running, is not going to sound the same when driving. So its trial and error. The settings I made yesterday sounded ok when with the laptop but as soon as took it for a spin, it wasn't as good. Hence I've played with it again today.

Like I said, this is just the setting I have from today and it may work for you, it may not. We all have differents ears. Enjoy your purchase and the hours of fun setting it up!

I'm assuming you can put a high pass filter on channels separately? Door speakers full range and the dash just for mids?

I spent a couple of hours in the passenger seat and the first thing I noticed was the clearer screen. Yes, the screen is all square with the vents above but I think the whole centre is slightly biased to the left. I'll dig out the laser level tmrw and confirm for sure.
Maybe it's the privacy screen put on the wrong way if it is straight. Is yours a left knobber or right knobber? Maybe the left knobbers has the screen to the left and the right knobbers are the right way?
