Has anyone tried BC Racing coilovers, either BR or DS series (or others)?
Curious what effect they have on ride quality, composure and traction on lumpy B roads. All are weak points on the GR so looking to make some improvements.

I have no experience with BC coilovers but what weak areas are you trying to improve on the GR86?

Poor ride quality, can't put power down on bumpy roads without the rear end breaking traction and snapping out of line. Compared to the Elises and Evoras I'm used to, the damping feels crude. Less comfortable and less composed on road and track

It sounds like you'd benefit from the MCA or GKTECH rear traction arm mod, it does exactly what you're after in terms of rear stability.

BC have a good following from the likes of the drift crowd and BMWs but not so much on this chassis or it's predecessor. They aren't viewed very fondly over the US, most are told to steer clear.

I think you are expecting too much out of the GR86. Its like comparing Lidl Bordeaux with a bottle of 1970's Margaux. Also, not sure what tyres you are running, that makes a huge difference too. Also, check tyre pressures, running at factory pressure is too high, try around 30lb hot.

Thanks for the feedback! Fitted the MCA traction mod last year and that does make a small improvement. Also have a stiffer front ARB, Pedders front top mounts and (as a bit of a punt) BRZ rear spring dampers from a US ZN8 which have lower rate springs.
All have given incremental improvements. More stable on initial turn in and doesn't wash out into understeer on long corners on track as much, so on-track behaviour is pretty good.
Still looking to improve the ride and general composure though.
There are so many suspension options but I'm wary of going for any of them without either experiencing them first hand or hearing from people who actually have them fitted.

That's harsh! Nothing against Lidl or Bordeaux but the GR is at least a Chilian Malbec
I'm still on the original PS4s so will definitely be trying something else when the time comes to change. I'll have a play with tyre pressures next time I'm on track but the behaviour on smooth tracks isn't really a problem - it's more on bumpy real roads where the rear end starts losing composure too early

I would say a chilian is more like a Hyundai N, Toyota has made affordable sports cars for years, hence I'll stick to Lidl Bordeux! :ROFLMAO:

I've only driven the GR at Bedford in anger and rear end traction has never been as issue.... but I don't expect Margaux results.

In actual fact for me, front end composure is my issue. I find the front end is just not right, whether is spring rate, or rebound. Currently running 6kg springs and will change to 7kg for next session. Hopefully this will give me what I am looking for. If not, I may drop the ARB down a notch so the front suspension doesn't have to fight the ARB as much. May give me a bit more roll but hopefully more composure.

Un-fortunately for us, the GR is light for a modern car but its no lightweight in comparison to a Lotus. Weight is always the prime concern in making a car handle well and you cant really compare the handling to a Lotus. I doubt any amount of work, will give you the composure you are looking for from the GR.
