GR86 GR86 - What wheels and tyres are you thinking about?

Wow what a bargain, makes me think, what's the catch will they be 5 years old 😅

That is very good. I think I paid about £85 each a few months ago, (Camskill) and I thought that was pretty good.

Thinking about selling the gr86 again due to the tyre roar from the Michelins. Before I do Does changing them to the Goodyears worth it? Does it change the noise significantly? Thanks!

They obviously didn't turn it into a Lexus, but I found the Goodyears in 225 section quieter and more compliant. And more sure footed.

Edit: to be clear, this was the F1 Asymmetric 6, not their winter or all-season tyres.

Agree with @Conscript - slapped a set of Goodyear Vector 4Seasons on in 225 sizing and it made a noted difference. Chucked in some 2mm deadening mats and it made a further difference. Its still loud at motorway speeds but not as painful as stock, which to me was unbearable on long drives.

Mine are on 17 inch wheels so take it with a pinch of salt, but the majority of they tyre roar - especially the front end resonance has gone.

Also have the 17’s (direct fit from a GT86) on with winter tyres - much smoother ride and no ‘roar’. Ended up getting hold of 2 sets of 17’s due to getting cocky on eBay, I’m considering putting summer tyres on the other set and putting the 18’s away in storage while they’re still immaculate!

They are from Aliexpress (so a gamble I know!) and a TPMS programmer is required, can be purchased from the same place or your tyre fitter may have one.

When they’re fitted I’ll advise further 👍
I’ve not gone to the trouble of getting these fitted, looks like the programming could be troublesome unless you own a TPMS programming tool. For the time being I’m using them without; the only notification is a small symbol on the dash, and I’m just checking manually every now and again. Seems like a lot of hassle for not much gain to get them programmed at the minute.

Are Gt86 wheels 7” wide? What width tyres are you using?

Yeah they are 17x7 et48. Tyre size is 215/45/17 so the same width.

GT86's that had 18's were 18x7.5 et48 and used wider 225/40/18 tyres.

Time to replace my rears - PS4's are £130 from Costco or PS5's are £135 - are the PS5's similar in terms of performance?
I have found the PS4's OK up until this winter when the tread was getting lower and performance has dropped off somewhat.
I see the Goodyear Eagle F1's and Continental Contact 7's get favourable reviews in this thread and can be had for £140 or £155 respectively - will it make a lot of difference running different brands front and rear?

Don't do it. Different brands will have different tread patterns and varying characteristics (aqua-planing, grip etc). Your car will likely suffer from inconsistent grip, steering, braking and handling. You might get away with it on a dacia duster, but not on a sports car.

Are they too worn to rotate to the front?

I wouldnt mix tyres on a RWD car. Balance would be all off in different conditions and it MIGHT (not tested on this platform) cause the TC to go haywire.

If you're considering the asymmetric 6 and the sport contact 7, consider that the CSC7 is a performance category above the AS6. It will perform better but probably be noisier. Both are amazing tyres, just that the CSC7 is a bit more hardcore.

CSC7s can be had for a lot less than that if you opt to go for the 225 width instead. I just put 4 on my car for almost bang on £400.

Thanks for the advice on not mixing tyres, will take this onboard.
Difference in price between 215 and 225 width is staggering. From quickly reading up on the difference between the 2:
215 better snow/wet performance, ride will be a bit more comfortable.
225 better dry handling, stiff ride and a bit more noise.
I'll do some furthe reading, thanks all, much appreciated 👍

I have 225 width Michelin CC2s on the car, could not recommend them highly enough.
