GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Lead a group of GRs and GT4s (the Porsche variety) to the Collecting Cars coffe run at Bicester Heritage and then lunch after in a beautiful nearby village. Early start, a bit damp, clear roads (but *bumpy*) and some great cars and drivers = a great way to start a Sunday :)

Installed the Strut brace with brake stopper Friday. Did go for a spin Saturday and noticed an improvement but wouldn't know for certain until I got it on one of my regular fun roads. Went to Aberaeron to see friends then back via Llandovery and the Black Mountain road which has been ruined with average speed cams. The bit from Aberaeron to Llandovery I know well. Most of it were my old commuting roads. Turn in definitely feels more direct and with temps up I was really getting throttle on early after trail braking into most turns and it took it well. Always use my old vRS as comparison as I'd regularly give it death and while I won't risk the 86 like I did the vRS, for many spots the 86 is the same or quicker, especially on corner entry. It's so nice having a car you don't have to constantly manage issues and is so stable as NSL speeds.

I did notice when fuel was low, the rear feeling looser and more wayward was more pronounced with the bar. May look into a rear bar but whatever I get can't hinder a spare wheel. Also want to look into the SARD bars and those Yamaha bars too. But both are expensive. What next I'm not sure. Am intrigued by the diff kit to remove some of the movement. Wheels still on radar.
I’ve been dreaming about the

KANSAI SERVICE REAR TOWER BAR

For this very reason …

Nice pics, I have family not far from there (Abergorlech) and itching to take my GR86 out that way for a visit.

Thanks for the ebay link. Did you go for charcoal or black ?
I went for black. Here's a comparison. The difference isn't as noticeable when they're not side-by-side.

I've wrapped the centre console section, and the little trim piece that sits below the AC controls. I'm tempted to redo it all in the future with proper alcantara fabric, but this will do for now.

Wrapping the centre console involved a masking tape template, and then after a few failed attempts the removal of the whole trim piece to make things easier.

Not today but yesterday went to the PH Sunday Service at Prescott, brilliant day out, superb weather too. By chance bumped into (not literally thankfully) another zooer (skaben) who was the only other 86 there, both of us went up the hill, great fun. Very well organised, only saw 1 or maybe 2 Yarii, plenty of MX5's, Celicas and Lotuses and everything from an Atom to a Corvette and a Cygnet too (Toyota iQ with an Aston badge if you didn't know and by coincidence parked almost opposite me in the pic below) Got so involved in chatting to loads of people i took hardly any photos 🤦‍♂️ So much so I have had to, er, borrow this from the PH thread to prove I was there:oops:

Hi, good to met you too, thanks for the clip! Will have to transfer what I have to my laptop later, I think the first one I got of you was mainly focused on the fence!

No worries, I've got a clip of me sending it from the start line from another pistonheader!

Thanks.

As a comparison, I've just ordered the charcoal, as I wonder if it'll be a closer match.
I'll take a similar photo when it arrives against the door trim so others can see the differences

Had a run up the A68 today, over the border and then to Duns, to visit the Jim Clark Motorsport Museum.
Jim Clark is probably the greatest driver you know nothing about, well I didn't!
Formula 1 World Champion 1963 and 1965, Indianapolis 500 winner, Le Mans racer, sports car racer and saloon car racer.

The museum is well worth a visit, the trophy room houses around 120 trophies, there's many momentos on display and videos detailing his life.View attachment 27893

There museum has 3 cars Jim raced, a Lotus Cortina used in saloon car races in 1965.
A Jaguar D-type in which he became the first British driver to average 100mph in a sports car race.
Also the Lotus 38 he drove in the 1967 Indianapolis 500, only a few weeks before he was very sadly killed in a crash at Hockenheim, Germany.

Was one of my Dad’s mates 😣

In the 60’s we were dragged everywhere to watch Jim via complementary tickets.

Think his still holds the record for lowest on grid to highest win position, something silly like at the back of 50 cars, and came 2nd.

Having popped over to Skidz (Falkirk) yesterday they were unable to resolve my ‘short nut’ issue on the spot (only having silver tuners not black) and said they’d get some sent out to me.
As good as their word, a full set of brand new black tuner nuts was delivered by courier today. Soon to be fitted on the GR86.
Now that’s customer service!

Was that RB Will in his blue Mini waiting behind you? I saw that clip too.

What was the issue? Internal drive nuts too short for the studs?

That's the one, it's a good video of the course too. I got home and gave the car a much needed wash
