GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

I was looking at no hole parking sensors. IBeam looks good but I couldn't find much about how effective they are online. Proxel is another but after some research I decided against these. I wish the iBeam ones had more reviews.
Yes that’s them (IBeam). I may take a punt 🤔

Attempted to vacuum and wash the car. One hour later it’s covered in a fine layer of pollen both inside and out! I’ll wait for the forecast thunderstorm to give it a rinse. I’ve given up, nature wins today.

Absolutely raging. Went to pick up my son from his mums and some c*nt parked their POS Range Rover next to me so I struggled to get the car out without hitting it. Was concentrating so hard not hitting the front of the car on said POS I completely misjudged the fence behind me. Was literally creeping in reverse.

Thought I had f*cked the paint but when I got home I hit it with a clay bar.
Absolutely no damage to the paint or bumper. Must have all been on top of the paint.
It’s been ceramic coated so I think that helped protect the surface.

Close call there.
Is the black mark damage to the paint or something else?

Yes, there is a small mark I need to touch up. It was actually a nail in the fence that did that. I’m going to touch it up, flat it back and polish.
The rest of the areas were completely untouched though.

Got up early to make the most of quiet roads, not early enough though as these and some other sheep were up early too! Fortunately the comedic horn on the 86 encouraged them to get off the warm tarmac and back to the green stuff.

Had an enjoyable couple hundred miles on some lovely roads although the condition of some of them has me questioning if I should be paying the road tax I got a reminder in for this week.

Anyway car was absolutely covered in dead flies and I was dreading cleaning it but I couldn’t believe how easy it was, I didn’t even need the bug remover, another bonus of the ceramic coating. ✨

I’ve installed the “suede” stickers on middle console, lower door cards and the glove box (as well as some plastic caps for seat bolts). As I imagined it was a PITA to install, but all took me less than an hour.
I think it looks fine, well enough not to notice and I think many wouldn’t unless specifically pointed out. Now let’s see if they stay stuck in these temperatures 🤞! I had to tear them off a couple of times for corrections and removing creases so the adhesive probably weaken a little.

Popped up to Perth and then into Glasgow today. I managed to see my first 'other' GR86 in the wilds of Scotland. A white one parked in Buchanan Galleries. I could not park next to it for a pic, as it was in a disabled space (or the like), as tempted as I was to do so 😁

Customs stung me for £53 which is worse as I'm still waiting for pads so will get stung twice. They (Parcelforce) attempted to deliver today and wouldn't leave in my safe space so will mean a trip to a depot somewhere tomorrow... Yet another driver, my regular one with Parcelforce delivered some new sunglasses and a few other bits and knows the score so leaves it where I want it, rings the bell with a thumbs up so I know he's been.

The soft as cheese bolt/stud claims another victim. Was only removing wheel to give a thorough clean😡. No wonder GT86 owners swap to ARP studs. Replacement Nut is £9 and stud is £5.

I already managed to ruin one of my nuts (ooer) when I was mucking around with wheel spacers...cross threaded it for a fraction of a second putting a wheel back on and now it's toast. But if you look in the box with the locking wheel nuts you should have 4 spare from when the lockers were put on, do you not have the same? You'll still need a new stud, mind.

Cheers but id already removed my locking nuts as they are normally the first thing to break.

I changed all my bolts for Mcguard. Didn’t realise the studs are iffy too 🙄

Had a run up the A68 today, over the border and then to Duns, to visit the Jim Clark Motorsport Museum.
Jim Clark is probably the greatest driver you know nothing about, well I didn't!
Formula 1 World Champion 1963 and 1965, Indianapolis 500 winner, Le Mans racer, sports car racer and saloon car racer.

The museum is well worth a visit, the trophy room houses around 120 trophies, there's many momentos on display and videos detailing his life.

There museum has 3 cars Jim raced, a Lotus Cortina used in saloon car races in 1965.
A Jaguar D-type in which he became the first British driver to average 100mph in a sports car race.
Also the Lotus 38 he drove in the 1967 Indianapolis 500, only a few weeks before he was very sadly killed in a crash at Hockenheim, Germany.

After reading the woes of sheared nuts/studs, I took to removing all of my Tuner Nuts to apply a thin layer of Coppercrest to the threads to reduce the likelihood of cold welding. I also dropped the tightening torque down from the (Bola) recommended setting of 130 to 127Nm as my (800Nm) Impact Wrench struggled to remove at least 3 of the nuts which had been over-tightened! 🥵
Another discovery was that I have an ‘odd’ nut that is shorter than all of the others (32mm vs 37mm). OCD triggered! Email to Skidz has been fired off for a new nut.
Hopefully I’ve saved myself some trauma down the line (thanks to this thread).
