GR Yaris Balance of tuning and durability limits

Mod list? Says 300hp and milltek catback. Anything else?
50k km and tracked.
Didn't see a Mod list. All I got was - translated ,

"The engine broke, damage first cylinder locks engine explode! Lifespan 50,000 kilometres Not bad for a 3-cylinder engine...Oil temperature at the time of the break, 120 degrees, according to the Carline (Boisset SA) Martigny garage, from where the car was always followed! This happened when shifting between 3rd and 4th gear.Obviously, there is no warranty coverage in view of use that is not appropriate to the Toyota Swiss warranty conditions..."

Answer in the comment, DTE box and as it appears no other mods.

This is basically a case then with intense track use where all the ECU calculated limits are all made incorrect by fooling the boost value. This certainly doesn't help anyway when hammering it a lot...

Starting to think I'm quite happy where I am with no remap, no raised torque and similar hp as here but mostly from improved hardware...

Reminds me of the good old days 20 years ago when I had my Charade GTti.

Other owners would fit a fuel cut defender on the MAP sensor, then wind the boost up.

Many headgaskets and bearings bit the dust.

A box is of course more advanced than a fuel cut defender, but it’s just a more advanced way of fooling the ECU into thinking everything’s fine.

Massive shame as perhaps 1/3rd of cars never made it back on the roads. Doubly stupid since the engine could take way more than stock power tuned correctly.

They were 100hp standard and mine made 180hp on the stock bottom end running 2.1 bar through a hybrid and worked head, 9000rpm limit with an ECU!

This data point is interesting in the sense that it wasn't monster power, but use was intense with good mileage. With the years and quite a lot of tracking, we will learn what works and what not long term.

There is a portugese ring rat and he's running HJS, oil cooler and IC and nothing else for power. Seems quite wise, wonder what the other regular GRY are doing.

The more I read the more I’m tempted, for know to stay on stock map, especially using the car on track every now and then. I can see on that video that albeit with an airtec oil cooler, oil temp is still 125 degrees…I was hoping a much lower oil temp after fitting a dedicated oil cooler radiator.

Are you using their 'standard' cooler or the stage 3 version? I ask because their instructions for the standard oil cooler suggest mounting it with hoses attached at the bottom, which could potentially trap air inside the cooler, making it less effective.

I was referring to the video posted before…not sure which one he uses but my guess is the standard…

Very cool! 1.0 3-pot - a GRY avant la lettre and yours had more or less the same power to weight *and* specific output too as the DTE one above! Just no rear driven axle and a tiny bit less crash protection 😁
Remember what torque it had?

Oh, I completely missed what you had in mind, thought you were referring to your own car.

It was a beastie little thing. Happily held onto the rear bumper of 911 et al to 100mph

Torque was somewhere north of 150lb/ft

Had a quaife copy lsd and bilsteins too.

A larger throttle body and front mount probably would’ve got it to nearly 200hp.

Oh Dear, not again,

Quite a few have posted here since this dropped. Here's my take...FWIW.

Looking at his videos, the car is three years old, so pretty much a first-run.

While "only" 50,000km, he has beaten this car on high-speed, extended-loading circuit for its entire existence, and good on him for it.
Someone in a comment on his latest video asks if it's modded and he answers, "more or less 🤫🙏" which to me says yes...😄

Watching some of his other videos, this car is quick. This car's third gear acceleration off of high-speed corners is legit, and the car holds its own on straights with what looks like a 991 GT3, and a 992GT3 RS isn't completely destroying him. At a minimum, it's got boost and a piggy-back.

He doesn't seem to upset that Toyota won't warranty it. Even here in Japan where many, many customers bought it for rally, gymkhana, etc., Toyota states that if you track the car, you own it.

Given car is marketed as a rally car in videos, find it a bit funny that manufacturer declines all warranty even if car is maintained as required or even above. but as said, there might be variations per country how these are handled.

Toyota UK cover track work on standard cars if you evidence oil changes after each track day

Before it was released there was a big hoohah on pistonheads when the warranty terms were released saying track = no warranty.

We all complained to Toyota that they were using track shots in the marketing and they ended up putting out a letter saying so long as the car stays standard and you change the oil it’ll be covered
