GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Nice to see a GR86 at the Cumbria Classic and Motorsport show today.

Just back off a two week jaunt across to the Nurburgring and then down to Switzerland. The Swiss part was to meet family and friends, very little driving.

But damn, the 'ring is one incredible place to be. There was a group of 9 of us in 8 cars, lots of passengering in each others cars (a few, not me, are on recent Youtube compilations in good ways). Saw quite a few Yari' and Supra's but not many GT/GR86s interestingly.

First time on the ring so it was a bit of a gingerly start but the red mist soon descended and I had such a blast of a time. Conscious it's not long after quite a bad spate of accidents on the ring, and there were numerous red flags when I was there, but I never did feel particularly unsafe, even when there was a lot of traffic.

Took one sesson on the GP Sprint Track too, and was eating up more powerful cars all over the place whilst getting a bit sideways in the process. Just tremendous fun and smiles for miles. Booked into Knockhill later this year already and will no doubt get another track day in too, this car is just so much fun to drive.

(eventually I'll buy some photos)

(As an aside I think Sonic would have a heart attack if he saw how filthy the car is unwashed for two weeks of abuse - tomorrow's job, I promise! :ROFLMAO: )

I’m planning on stopping off at the Nurburgring next year as part of a road trip, can you still just turn up and pay for a single lap?

Yes, you can buy a single lap card in the car park kiosks or the nearby ED Tankstelle petrol station.

A terrible day with the GR86 today, comrades.

What with the weather being warm over the last few months I have not been wearing a jacket. As a consequence I had temporarily removed my legendary Suit Hanging Integrated Transport Solution (S.H.I.T.S) from the car.

I had a Very Important Meeting today which required full suit and tie. Only after getting in the car ready to drive off did I realise my error - nowhere to hang the suit jacket! Time was short so I didn't have time to retrieve the S.H.I.T.S from whatever dusty part of the garage I had left it.

Behold, then, this disgracefully suboptimal way to treat one's attire.

Shameful.

😂 You could have draped your jacket around the back of the passenger seat, laid the trousers across the back seat and driven in your boxers. 😲

Gave my car a 50,000 km birthday present:
1. Redline MTLV for the gearbox
2. Redline 75w90 for the diff
3. Toyota 0w20 for the engine

Also changed the PCV valve. Didnt think i needed to change cos i was running fine. But the PCV valve came out a little gunky and the balls barely rattled even when shaken hard...
Removal is best done with a 7/8 in crow foot and socket wrench.

Had the car in for it's intermediate service today at Toyota Helensburgh. Another great experience with them, they let me provide my own oil, filter and sump washer and offered to fit the OEM mudguards I had lying around free of charge. In their words "the wheels will be off anyway!". Also got the keys changed to unlock both doors with a quick double press.

The only part I had to pay for was the air intake filter which needed replacing. All in it was only £237, a bit cheaper than the standard £365 Toyota GR service price.

Treated myself to a twisty drive up around Loch Lomond afterwards!

Annoyed the significant other by parking as far away from the main entrance as is possible. It was a child's fairground and the walk to the entrance was a horror show of beaten up suvs. Thankfully the car park never filled up so we were safely left alone just a small jog back from the exit.

Bonus points for the spot being quite picturesque.

Finally got round to my intermediate service. I went with miller's 30 weight this time.

Oil change facilitated by the wooden stairs I made 2 days ago. They worked great.

I never used to do my own oil changes with previous cars, but the peace of mind knowing that the most basic service has had the details obsessed over is a nice benefit of doing it yourself. The function to prime the engine with oil first with these cars is really nice too.
