GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Annoyed the significant other by parking as far away from the main entrance as is possible. It was a child's fairground and the walk to the entrance was a horror show of beaten up suvs. Thankfully the car park never filled up so we were safely left alone just a small jog back from the exit.

Bonus points for the spot being quite picturesque.

I did the same on my trip to Hunstanton last weekend.
Park away from the lot that don’t give a t*ss about others property.

Finally got round to my intermediate service. I went with miller's 30 weight this time.

Oil change facilitated by the wooden stairs I made 2 days ago. They worked great.

I never used to do my own oil changes with previous cars, but the peace of mind knowing that the most basic service has had the details obsessed over is a nice benefit of doing it yourself. The function to prime the engine with oil first with these cars is really nice too.
I’ll probably change my own oil next service, how do you go about priming the engine?

If your still around on Sunday (9-12) the Liverpool CNC is always a winner and just down the road from you.
Location
Didn't get to this I'm afraid. Due to a very late night we took full advantage of the "served until 11am weekends" hotel breakfast!

Walking into the city we did see plenty of interesting motors driving past (around noon) so assume they were heading away from there. Vintage Celica , Escort Cosworth, few Scoobies, AMG Mercs, BMW Ms etc.

I copied @White_TiGRR today (https://www.gr-zoo.com/threads/pearl-white-grr.8182/post-125395) by getting hold of a roll of the self adhesive suede material from Aliexpress, and covering the plastic covers of the Isofix tethers on the rear parcel shelf. I didn't really notice the reflections on the rear screen until I happened to be without my polarised sunglasses one day, and realised they are quite bad. Covering them should hopefully reduce that.

Bit of a pain to wrap it around the contours, so it's bunched up a bit on the front corners, but it will do for now. I purposefully bought a longer roll knowing I would probably **** it up.

But that meant I could go a bit further; I already had a pre-cut piece that I bought ages ago, fitted around the heated switch surround. Decided I'd have a go at wrapping the little plastic panel under the AC controls, and the bit surrounding the gearstick.....

Quite proud of that. A little less grey, scratchy plastic on show. I am now looking around the interior with narrow eyes, for any other small parts I can wrap. Would quite like to do the A-pillar trim, but they are massive pieces with quite a lot of contours, so maybe that's a job for another day.

Looks good :)

The A pillars are available from AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005720088761.html

They definitely help to "lift" the interior IMO.

Nice, thanks! I need to have one of the A-pillars off again at some point (still searching for that elusive rattle when the car is cold), maybe wrapping them will help alleviate it.

Looks great - I haven't attempted the bit around the gear stick - how did you do it without a template - did you remove the panel, or just cut an approximate size and poke the edges down into the gaps ?

I removed it, it's pretty easy:
1. Prise out the little panel under the HVAC controls and undo the 2 securing screws.
2. Unscrew gearknob.
3. Pull up the handbrake gaiter (no need to remove entirely, just pull it up so it unclips to give you some clearance).
4. Pull the silver bit of trim up and back and it will unclip.
5. You're left with the plastic panel holding the gearstick gaiter. Just pull it up firmly to remove it from the car.
6. Turn it over and there's 4 screws you can undo to remove the leather gaiter.

The roll of material I had was just wide enough (20cm) for the piece, so I just cut off a length long enough for the whole lot and draped it over the panel, sticking it down. Then I just cut around the edges, leaving just enough to tuck it down a bit. Used a Stanley knife to cut out the big middle hole.

Bit fiddly, and it was a bit rough around the edges, but once it's back in the car, the gaiter and surrounding silver trim covers all the edges nicely.

So I'm new here and in my first month of GR86 ownership with a lot of parts currently in transit from Japan, today I installed:

- A.C.E.+ Aluminium Reverse Trigger: I actually managed to install this quite quickly/easily without removing/disassembling any surrounding interior trim (which all the YouTube videos tell you to do). I simply slipped off the gear knob and released the old plastic reverse lockout collar with circlip pliers, finessed it out of the leather/rubber boots, re-greased everything and reassembled with the new trigger, super-easy but probably not a viable option if you have "big ol' sausage fingers" as there's not a lot of room to play with in the opening of either the leather or rubber boot under that..

- Recaro Child Seat (I would not usually mention something like this but that Pepita fabric is iconic and looks so good in person)

The reverse lockout thing looks cool, but I'm more interested in the child seat .

My wife and I had our first child just over 2 weeks ago. I've got a base for our baby seat which fits in the back but doesn't leave much room for a passenger in the front. I'll be in the market for a forward facing child seat next year, so If you have a few words of review on the seat I'd appreciate it.

I remembered that I've been meaning to put some anti rattle tape on the little plastic covers inside the door handle. Had some offcuts of the Ultrasuede from earlier, so...

:D

Never gonna see them but if it stops them rattling, why not? Plus I guess I can always brush them with my finger every time I open the door.

Good job! Looks great, how does the material match up with the pre-cut heater switch one? Thinking I might have to get one myself…as I’m unsure on my “DIY”attempt 😂

It was almost an exact match for it, I did check before doing it due to how close together they were. I'm guessing all these suede bits from AliExpress are all coming from the same source, so match each other even if they don't match the OEM parts exactly.

I did the centre console bits, plus the trim above the glove box to mirror the trim you can buy from Toyota in the fake forged carbon effect and I'm pleased with how it came out. Possibly not to everyone's taste, however.
🤔 There must have been a run on this fabric recently, because I too have ordered some - mainly for the bottom of the doors, where shoes can catch on the plastic trim when getting out in situations where the door can't be opened fully. The Chinese must be baffled about this sudden peak in sales! 😄

Hahaha! These are available from AliExpress too.

Just noticed there are carbon and leather affect ones available too..
