GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

My GR86 has made it into Car Magazine (albeit only in a couple of aerial drone shots) at the Petrol and Pride event at the British Motor Museum on the 25th July.

There was also a red GR86 a few rows back. Another GR-Zoo member?

Great article and looks like a top gathering. Plenty of decent motors there by the look of it.

So the author Jake has a GR Yaris long termer? Nice. Be interesting to hear what he thinks of it.

Oh, and special mention surely for
"Wayne Bruce, head of communications at Bentley". I really hope his mates/colleagues call him Man Bat.

Enjoyed Ayrshire Classic Car Clubs annual event at Culzean Castle. 220 cars, I took two along...

Went up North Wales to bag some more peaks, this time a loop of Cnicht. 6 Nuttall's, taking this one up to 59 so far.

Gave me a chance to test his new box and push the car a bit. It's really good now. Doesn't move about as much and is happy. Did get a smell when really throttling on, diff oil possibly? It was very warm and seats are down so I hear and smell more things and my sense of smell is very sensitive. Need to try again on a cooler day without the dog.

One thing he has now is a new learned behaviour. If I suddenly overtake something he gets up and looks out the back window, presumably judging the Peugeot driver for doing 30 in a 60. They must think WTF?! 🤣🤣🤣

I feel like GR86s were out in force over the weekend, lots of motoring events on, I was at Pistonheads Annual Service on Saturday, Brands Hatch Sunday. I recognised @Dal3D @mackie cars, looking good gents (y) , I think I counted 7 in all. I also gave a thumbs up to a silver car on the M25, anyone on here?

My car indirectly made it into the local news today. After the event at the stadium, there were heated discussions about whether the vehicles had damaged the tartan track. Summary of the article: No, there was no damage 😇

I mean: Come on, this event has been taking place there for years. Why should something have broken this time?

However, it is sad how our tuning community is once again being portrayed in a bad light simply because of the negative headline...

“Sports facility or event arena? - After tuning event: Is the tartan track at Jahnstadion now damaged?”

Since the article is only available for a fee or with a subscription, many people will only remember this negative impression - and my car being a part of it

Took the gleaming GR86 across to Fraser’s in Falkirk and had a test drive in their bright yellow MG Cyberster demonstrator. I had some preconceptions, but I have to say that a lot of the YouTube influencers’ nit-pickings are exactly that; the AWD car was comfortable, nice to drive and super (holy-f***) quick! I want one. Having seen it in the metal, the ‘English White’ colour (which is more off-white/cream) with the red interior, again not as gawdy in the flesh, might now be my preferred shade over the yellow or red colour choices. Oh my, what to do in 2026 🤔

A track day on Monday meant the inevitable pad change today.

Always pleasing to remember how easy yo maintain these cars are - an hour on the nose to change the pads on all 4 corners isnt bad at all.

One of these days i will invest in a 4 corner jack though!

That's good to hear as I had my first set of replacement pads turn up the other day. A job to get around to before winter.

Is it easy to change pads on these? I attempted it on my Polo years ago but needed rewind tools and adapters and was such a faff I didn't bother again. Thinking about it now as I don't trust a garage to take care of the wheels, even if I provide a nylon socket to use.

Assuming the calipers are the same as the GT, then yes. A piston rewind tool probably isn't essential, but I picked one up a few years ago and it does make the job easier than faffing around with G-clamps, sockets, etc. Worth the £12 or so that I paid.

I faffed with clamps and got them done on the driveway in about an hour. Maybe a little more. They were really easy. Most of the time was spent messing around driving onto blocks of wood so I could get the jack under the car.

Tools like that are nice though. After having done some coilover installs using big zip ties to squeeze springs together in my 20s, getting a decent spring compressor for the coilovers on the 86 was a dream by comparison.
