GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Finally fitted the cheap AliExpress air vent trims I bought 18 months ago!
I'm quite pleased with them actually, they fit well, and I was surprised that they are aluminium and not just plastic.
Just need to get around to some of the other bits and pieces I've got...

Ooh. They look pretty good actually. Do you need to remove the vents? Still think my drivers one is causing the annoying rattle on cold mornings so if it has to come off anyway it might be worth fitting trims.

In other news, had a great drive this morning....but have discovered an annoying creaking noise when on full lock. My heart sank, as I recently changed those steering rack bushes to the Whiteline poly ones. But I remember testing for noise after fitting those and they were silent. And this is more "creak" than "squeak".

The noise is exactly the same I heard when I had a failed drop link on my GT86. I've only done 18k miles, but I did hit a rather nasty pothole on the drive before I heard it...and as it's the same part as the old car, they must still be making them out of cheese (I once had a brand new one fail in 6 months). Hopefully it's just that, a new pair is £35 so I'm just going to start by replacing them.

Car still feels great though. Love the steering now.

No, they just stick on with pre-fitted tape - it will be interesting to see how that holds up.
I am pleased with the fit and finish though, better than I thought for the money.

I have a weird rattle in the same position, also only when it's cold. I think the noise may be coming from the speaker/tweeter grill above the vent. Not done any exploratory digging though, probably won't till the winter now 😂

Took her out for the first proper drive after switching to CS7s. Had an awesome time on the twisty backroads – grip felt great and the steering feel was sharp!

However, I noticed some strong vibrations at highway speeds. Not sure if it’s just the stiffer sidewall of the CS7s making things more noticeable, or if the tires might need road force balancing. Anyone else experienced this after switching to these?

They look good, have you got a link to where you bought them from?

The specific link no longer exists (I ordered them in August 2023!) but if you search for BRZ/GR86 air vent, there's loads of them.
Mine came from the 'Jogon' store but they only seem to do them now as a 4 piece set including the centre trim for the adjuster: Vent Trim Accessories

Did they not balance the wheels with the new tyres when changing? Sounds like they haven't or a weight's fallen off so I'd get them to do it again.

They did, I had it checked today in other shop. The wheels are well balanced. So they recommended me to go for Road Force Balancing, which I’m ordered for tomorrow and hopefully that will fix it.

The balancing found three tires out of spec 😬will try to make a claim and meanwhile I’m ordering three new tires 🤦🏻‍♂️

I checked the wheels after and found a chip… not sure if that happened during the manipulation in the shop or if a rock chipped the wheel 😕

What does the above tell you about the tyres? I am interested as never seen or even heard of this before.

The machine basically simulates how the tire behaves under driving loads - checks for stiffness variations, out-of-round issues and defects, that regular balancing machine won’t notice. It shows how much force the tire exerts on the wheel as it rolls (how out of round or stiff the tire is under load). That explains why my car is vibrating in higher speeds 😬

When they balance it, the move the tire around the wheel, to find the best spot and it also tells them where to put each wheel. For sports cars the value should be somewhere in between 40-50.
