GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

So what the f*** did they do with your car all day, just leave it sitting in the car park?!
Absolutely shocking service (oh, the irony). I’d already be formulating a stern letter to Toyota HQ if it was me. 🤬
On my booking of service I noted TPMS which was a second genuine set on summer wheels that I got coded at an independent garage and had been a hard reset on previous service and advised by tech on Video they would have to be recoded if didnt work.....it didnt so mentioned and codes supplied for each valve supplied for Thursday appointment ( I wont say service!!) and I got charged £167.50 for just recoding!!

Im genuinely not one that moans and avoids conflict and well aware sometime the gate was left open on the Cnut farm and they have thrived in the wild but do feel the need to share my experiences with a higher ear!!

Sunday was early morning B-road blast with a couple of friends in unfortunately inferior vehicles. They made the best of it though.

Spotted a spirited GR Yaris out and about on the B1039 Great Chishill road 👋🏻

Today Bert went for his 4th service at 30k miles, that might sound a little over indulgent on my part but he was in Thursday past for his 3rd service at my local dealer, had to book a collect for the Thursday as had some online work stuff to do prior to the Easter break, Bert departed at 9am and returned around 6, Friday was supposed to be Good but was quite bad for me as it took approx 7 hours to get Berts saddle realigned to my liking, Saturday came and I took the opportunity to check the oil where I settle Bert down for the night as it had been freshly changed and filled to the correct amount on the service and I could get my eye in on the dipstick, I was mildly concerned as the colour wasn't quite as golden as I was expecting, my thoughts leaning to "did they change the oil" when I ran a moist finger over the oil filter for it to return dusty confirming no oil change!! As it was only 10 am ish I called the dealer to dealer only to be forwarded to the service department twice with no reply and then I called every number they had to be greeted by an lovely lady that greeted with my name which I hadn't shared with them!! A further couple of hours ensued with numerous people that confirmed they didnt service Bert and that listening back to the call when I booked the service that I started the conversation "Good Morning, I would like to book a service please"!! It's been a path of fuckery today with the delightful service manager who was supposed to bring me a car out so I could go to work as per my contract of employment but didnt, anyhow!! Bert is serviced now and within 10k miles of the previous service but had to be parked all weekend to keep the warranty intact........Do all please check that the work you have paid for is carried out!!
Reading stuff like this, and the many stories about dealers not telling customers they couldn't get an oil filter until the day of the service, really makes me glad I've elected to go independent for servicing. I'll happily take a slight hit on my resale value not to have to deal with that.

Always a good idea to put a good scratch mark on the filter before the service.
You might want to check your dashcam footage.

That sort of thing really winds me up and I'd be shouting about it - taking payment for goods not received is criminal.
And Mrs. Miggins in her Yaris is still driving round three years and three no services later . . .

(a blob of nail varnish (not mine!) on the back of the oil filter has always worked for me)

Also, installed the STI exhaust hangars. Quick and cheap mod, will see if they help reduce exhaust noise in the cabin. And finally, I installed the XLR RaceChip throttle controller. Will update the main thread on that after a bit more driving.

Got any after pics of the exhaust? I figure if your spec L 2 fits ok, my Spec L one will!

Have these made any difference? They are on my list of potential ‘affordable diy oem+ mods’. Not expecting them to revolutionise the handling but do they at least make the door close more nicely??
I didn't notice any difference when I fitted mine. Might have even caused a rattle in my door? I think these are probably more noticeable on cars with more chassis flex, the GR86 is rigid. You do get a nice solid noise when the door closes though.

Underseal and Cavity Wax Refresh: Up at 0400 to beat the Glasgow traffic and get across country, from Dunfermline to ‘Preserve & Protect’ in Johnstone, for an annual inspection and top-up of the GR86’s underbody wax protection. Also had the cavities redone whilst car was in. £50 CIH. Sorted.
Hit rush-hour traffic on the way home though (bugger) … 🤨

Might look into this myself as my car's previous owner had everything done at Preserve and Protect. Probably worthwhile as I drove mine through winter!

Oil change booked in for 8am at Helensburgh Toyota on Saturday, an early rise but at least not as early as yours!

If it’s had their full treatment then they’ll do an annual inspection and top-up. The inspection is FOC, but you’ll pay for any materials (if required). Although there is no requirement to book in for the inspection, it’s best to check how busy they’ll be on your chosen day. You just need a dry day as they can’t apply any wax if the underside is wet. I dropped the car off at 6am and it was ready by 0730. Just enough time for a Flat White and Pain-au-Raisin in Glasgow before getting the next train back to Johnstone. 😳
Good luck with the Service!
