GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

.. nice chat with William at the Porsche Centre. Looks like I'll be getting a full morning to play about with a 718 GTS4.0 come the Spring…
In contrast, I received an email this afternoon from Peoples Ford (Edinburgh), stating that they don’t allow Test Drives in the Mustang because it’s a Performance Car, however I could come along and look at the new Mustang ‘Dark Horse’ in their showroom and talk options and numbers. A polite f**k off email was sent in response. Their loss 💸

Fitted summer wheels and had the first proper drive for a while. I had CC2s on over winter and while they’re very good, quiet and comfortable, switching back to proper UUHP tyres is like night and day, especially with firmer suspension.

Might go to a local cars and coffee tomorrow morning but it’s looking like a chilly one.

There’s a radio ad at the moment saying you can test drive any Ford, any time, anywhere but I did wonder if anything tasty is not included. No test drives for anyone 25+ is dumb.

Hi. Is the repair invisible from the driver position? The reason I ask is I picked up a very small (3mm) chip on my GRY windscreen. It is a slight distraction but if a repair would still be visible I probably won’t bother having it repaired.
My chip was way over on the passenger side, so didn't distract, but I wanted a repair and it certainly made it much less noticeable. I don't think any repair is completely invisible, but I think most are worth having done, esp if there are tiny micro-cracks. I had one a year ago and decided to leave it - but when the really hot weather came along, a big crack started and I ended up having a new screen. 😒 If in doubt, take it in and the specialist will give an opinion - in my experience, they give an honest assessment.

Yesterday I had a good drive out and got her very dirty:

Gave her a good hot soapy foam wash last night. Thick, hot foam and then blasted the dirt off with hot pressure washer, Followed by a second foam and shampoo. Then a Polish and wax today.

She's looking lovely 😍

2nd service completed this week, just over 18.4k miles in 2 years - only advisory was to change front tyres very soon and the rears in the near future, which I already knew. Inner thread measurement lower than the outer on all 4 tyres.

Today I washed my car, which I hadn't done for ages (November last year I think).

I took advantage of a nice sunny day and the fact that
my boss is on the sick meaning less Teams calls and emails and that

In fact, the last time my car was "cleaned" was when
the dealer washed it during the second service two months ago...

There are not many driving roads that I've not had the chance to 'drive' over the years in Scotland. However, yesterday was a first, and in the GR86. If you ever get the chance, Selkirk to Moffat over the A708 - utterly sublime...

It is. I did that one a few years ago on a drive out with 'Nthusiast Scotland' in my KonaN. The views along St.Mary's Loch are wonderful ... although I was somewhat distracted by the younger members of the group in loud/modded i30N and i20N, doing seriously dodgy overtakes at speeds exceeding 100mph...
After the coffee/lunch break I made my own way home - Come to think of it, that was the first and last time I chose to join them on a drive-out. 😬

Glad you enjoyed your drive. I might give it a go in the GR86 one day in the Summer 👌

Is that Sonic offering to arrange the next Scottish GR run I hear? (For we were all much better behaved than the i-Youth)

Incidentally, I have a historic route plan in same format as the last one that takes in these roads. Trouble is the lunch stop no longer exists (Baxters cafe in Selkirk) and I don’t know of a suitable alternative to update it.

Ford have form for this. I've never managed to successfully walk into a Ford dealer and drive a car. I'll never buy one, especially now they are all generic blobs like everything else mainstream.

Should not be too difficult to find something 😁

Know the A708 as it is the long way round to visit the in laws. Sheep are your biggest concern, they must be a bread that are petrolheads such is the liking for walking and stopping to check the cars out. No lane discipline either. The lanes get narrow heading out of Moffat so not having a wide car is a good thing!

Did someone say meet…. ! ;)

Drove it again today, just in the opposite direction this time. On both occasions I passed one car on the route. A rather special little jaunt that I might take the motorbike on this summer as well. 😁

Wiped off the rain water, unplugged the Genius10 optimiser and checked the tyres, all ready for my 'blast' down to Annan tomorrow morning. Hopefully it'll go some way to running-in the BBK a bit more and get rid of the bloody annoying rhythmic Cicada-like chirping from the OSF! It does my napper in when I'm driving around town with the window open listening to my exhaust :(

Sound of my BBK or a Cicada, who can tell?! Here comes Sonic in his GR86 Fzzzzz ..... Fzzzzzz.... Fzzzzzz.... Fzzzzz 🤫

Return trip to Eastriggs (near Annan) today. Decided to let Google maps take me home via the A702 as I thought it would be more interesting than the motorway. Last f***n time I do that! I was directed off onto the A 73, then down B roads, 'unnamed' roads and down a so-called 'Leyden Road, which is basically no more than a single track with some tarmac on it! I had to pull into the (muddy) side several times to avoid oncoming traffic, including hitting a bright blue Lotus Exige coming the other way who was making 'good progress' fer sure! Somehow after several hours I ended up at the back of McDonalds on the Newbridge roundabout; Oh, that's where I am! Shorter than the motorway, yes, but my goodness a lot more involving - and the car is filthy now.
Next time I'll just stick to the A702 until it hits Edinburgh - f**k Google maps!

This is what the roads around me are like and why I got a compact car like the 86 😆
