GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Cleaned it on the weekend after a quick blast for an hour. Will look at covers for next year as even in the garage it's surprising how much dust accumulates.

Fallout on the wheels was surprising but guess it's a given due to how long it hadn't be used for, lot of residue on the disks.

Got a busy few months so need to adult for a bit. Hoping at the end of it I'll have time and some spare cash to decide what brakes to go for. Hardest part for me is finding a Japanese indy I trust that's reasonable and local.

I did this morning what I guess the majority of owners on here have done at one time or another - got a windscreen stone chip repaired. I picked it up on the A1 just south of Boroughbridge on a return journey from Alnwick. £45 for a good job at Halfords (£40 six months ago!). Managed 37mpg outward (280mls) on Tesco Momentum, but only 35.5 on Esso Supreme on return because of a couple of crawls (accident & road works). Oh, and I got a seatbelt warning because of the weight of the bottles of N East beer I brought back on the back seat!

Normally I avoid motorways in this car but this morning my usual B-road route would have made me late. 61 miles at 75 mostly, on the cruise control, saw 40mpg - quite surprised. Asda fuel ;)

Smelled burnt oil after 20 minutes of spirited driving followed by 20 minutes of A road driving in traffic. Don’t know what to check for but I remember this happening before…

To add to the injury it happened as my wife called to be rescued, after her Civic developed a split in a pipe connecting a box to the turbo, and left her car crawling at sub 30mph speeds… nothing some duct tape can’t fix! Let her drive the 86 back home just in case.

The sump is right above the catalyst/manifold, so if the gasket leaks it’ll drip straight onto the hot cat.

Spark plug cover gaskets are known to leak, I'd check around the coil packs. There is a technical bulletin for it.

Wow! Very impressive. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to use cruise control on roads with fewer than three lanes because of traffic density, using it now mostly for 40/50/60mph monitored stretches.

Hi. Is the repair invisible from the driver position? The reason I ask is I picked up a very small (3mm) chip on my GRY windscreen. It is a slight distraction but if a repair would still be visible I probably won’t bother having it repaired.

We’ve been ‘blessed’ with starlings murmurating over the village since new years, so the GR has been hibernating under a cover since the end of January - wiping it down with PB Bird Sh*t remover every night was getting too much!

While a wonderful sight, I think everyone in the village has had enough now!

Was pleasantly surprised the GR started without issue this morning and it’s had a lovely bright day to cover some miles and get the juices flowing again. I came home after dusk to avoid a coating of poo!

Having not driven it for a month I took it steady to get my eye back in - think I’d gone a bit numb from driving the 20 yr old Fabia!

Drove the '86 round a few Fife A/B roads and ended up in Perth, where I had a coffee and a nice chat with William at the Porsche Centre. Looks like I'll be getting a full morning to play about with a 718 GTS4.0 come the Spring, with the added advice to "not bother with the motorway, take it up towards Glencoe and enjoy the twisties" - Who am I to disagree with that?! ☺️

Bloody gravel drive - gave the car (and wheels & tyres) a damn good wash, moved it round, from in front of the garage and the tyres are filthy already!

I polished the Cobra exhaust though - tips and back box and applied a coat of Fusso to the bonnet of the Tonale

Cleaned the car today- nice to see it shiny again!

In other news a lump of mystery motorway debris struck the bonnet and left a scar. Not sure but looks like it’s down to the metal? Wondering if/ how I’ll get that seen to.
