GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

Seems like a pretty nice spread to me. Add some corner lights and you have a nice set-up. Personally I prefer Lazer, from the same form factor and with the corner lights (~3000Lumen), I get 24000lumens if I want to, the Linear 18 Elite+ is swithchable between e-mode, boost, yellow (snow) and combined (=21000 raw Lumen). Yeah it's more ££ but get proportionally even more lumens and a very well thought out light pattern with 84° spread (without) or 210° (with 45° angled out corner lights) spread - yeah, that's backward indeed. Considering the OE highbeams are ballpark 3000 lumen, you can imagine such a set-up really opens up for enjoying the car when roads are at their best - mostly empty.... Just posting because I wish someone told me this 4 years ago (or even earlier), I would have done a lot more great drives.

Just read the info on that light bar, sounds epic! Do you have any pictures of it fitted? And how have you wired it in, direct to main beam or separately?

Went on short ski trip to Semmering, I’ve managed to fit two pair skis (one shorter, mine was 175cm) in a ski bag. Car color went from black to matte grey (y) Also managed my record best l/100km performance, in the morning it was 8.5l/100km and on the trip back it was 7.5! Never seen that number, but obviously i was cruising around 120km/h. Each trip was around 180km.

Lazer has a kit for the GR Yaris behind the grille. Form factor as link below, but for the Elite+ you need 18A so you need so both exits of one power unit. If you want to switch light modes remotely with a smart button, you need a second power unit or one with more channels on another relay that switches the control wire to ground. May sound criptic but you'll understand once you read up.

I also suggest to continue any discussions on the Lazer there.

40 k maintenance time.
All new filters like every 10k.
Brake and rear diff oil was done at 30k.
Front diff oil, engine oil.
Fuel additive also every 10 k

Ready for two weeks of Winter holidays, hopefully with some snow.

Fixed the two spots where rocks get as usual.
No signs of rust.
Checked the plugs, unscrewed the left one looks fine.

Front diff oil was good unlike rear diff that gets black.

Just to clarify. Front Diff Oil is the same as the Gearbox oil, the front diff is inside the gear box. The other 0.45 l of oil in the front drive train is only the transfer case. Hence, yes, the rear Diff Oil blackens quicker than the transfer case oil.

yeah, my mistake on the wording.

Took my car into tyre place today. My AliExpress TPMS were dead. So switched them all out for programmable ones. Copied codes from my summer tyres to the new sensors in winters from the ECU so no more issues in future.

What are you using to copy/program the codes?

Drove my car from the Cotswolds to Scotland for Xmas (320 odd miles). Absolutely rubbish experience on the motorway and my ears were ringing, not fun.

Fell in love with it again on a B road for the final 20 miles or so of the journey, it’s just something else isn’t it? I live too far from the good roads now. Was able to flow along in 4th, nothing wild but it was getting dark and there were really good sight lines, plus it was a little greasy so enjoyed some sharp turning in to break traction and early power, resulting in some lowish speed drifting round lots of them (as it’s a timber lorry route, they were nice and wide as well).

Not really done that before with it and it was eminently controllable throughout which was super fun. Think it’s just as nice a way to enjoy the roads vs worrying about the speed creeping up to stupidly high levels. Maybe I need a GR86 instead 🙃

Likewise, thank you. Yeah, I’d really like to find a nice empty area with a dusting, just to be able to play around for a bit!

Not with my Yaris, but drove FiL's regular Yaris for the first time.

Felt completely weird as someone had stolen the clutch pedal when my foot instinctively went to it, and no matter how many times I turned the key and dash looked fine the engine didn't start.

Took quite a bit of acclimatising.

Installed a Powerflex torque mount bushing today and strangely I feel no difference in the car whatsoever........shift is the same as is the NVH. It's the black 95 shore version as well. This seems quite strange given what I read online, has anyone else here had a similar experience?

Had the original failed?

No it looked intact as far as I could tell. Though I thought the insert was supposed to make a difference regardless of whether it had failed or not.
This is what it is supposed to look like if intact, even though many of us had mistaken this for a damaged one. The new one Toyota put in place of this one is EXACTLY the same.

I've been through a few different ones, a DNA purple one that broke, then back to stock, then to powerflex black and now on the Collins one, and I noticed a difference between each one.

Powerflex was a big improvement over stock for me. The Collins one feels pretty similar, but less NVH.

I wonder if it's because I didn't torque the big bolt tight enough? I was using both arms and could only torque it to about 180nm. Might get back under the car again and have another go to see if it makes any more difference.

TBH I was always skeptical about modifications like bushings and the torque mount insert improving shift feel (for my car) because the shift feels mushy even at a standstill, so I think I would have to change something more directly related to the shift action rather than peripheral changes that reduce movement.

Same as you mate. I’ve installed black power flex gearbox torque mount insert and I can’t feel a difference at all…
