Checked my insurance documents and it's down as "manufacturer standard" for security. So covered, one assumes.

This is from the thread on Facebook where someone asked Toyota UK. What’s an “EC compliant alarm”? A few of us have figured out it doesn’t have one full stop.

Clear as mud really.
So EC as in European Community?

F**k me, someone's not turned 'em all off cos of Brexit have they?

I'm only half joking here...

Wouldn't be the first time.

Or the last.

@Orro If you've got a Techstream I don't suppose you'd fancy investigating to see if you can turn it on?
There is an option in the customise list pdf called "Security Alarm Setup", that option is not listed when connected to the car using Techstream

Also there are no interior ultrasonic sensors, these are what detects the movement in the car, e.g. waving a hand inside with windows down and car is locked.

Certainly appears the specification list for anyone who placed an order on “gone in 60 minutes” day wasn’t worth the paper it was written on between omissions such as parking sensors, auto dimming mirrors etc. It does leave me wondering what the point is if the manufacturer can hide behind a caveat of specification may be subject to change seemingly without any comeback.

The alarm one is potentially more serious, albeit less noticeable. I mean, it's even on my factory build sheet attached to the VIN. I don't understand why it wouldn't be fitted when American cars have it fitted?

(Edit: I should caveat this with that I've got a 73 plate and haven't been able to check if it has an alarm yet, as it's away for another kind of protection).

Just tried this and there doesn't appear to be any interior sensors.

Followed the instructions in the manual to activate the alarm and nothing happens. Anyone else had any joy or do I need to call the dealer on Monday?

I think that would be a good idea. Maybe we'll get a proper answer as to why there doesn't seem to be a working alarm despite one being declared on the paperwork/specification as factory fitted.

Has anybody else got one of these on their windscreen?
Which, just looking at it, you would think meant an alarm of some kind...

Was about to post exactly that. Unless it is like those fake stickers you bought off ebay years ago when your sheddy Ford with woeful security but was still worth nicking to put off potential thieves.

Anyone heard back from a dealer/TOL?
I haven't actually contacted anyone about it. Part of me thinks it might be better to keep scthum and plead ignorance. As I said, my main concern is insurance implications; if Toyota say it has an alarm, and Thatcham says it has an alarm, and I've told my insurance "it's whatever the manufacturer says", I hope that's enough that I don't have to worry about it.

Maybe someone should go and try and hotwire the car, wouldn't be surprised if it turns out we don't have an immobiliser either :(

When I was doing tech stream the other day. I was trying with my fob to lock the doors with the door open to see if my coding of the open windows worked on key fob but it beeped at me as if it would have an alarm. Maybe indirectly I have switched on the alarm function?

Only reason I remember this is because after that I unplugged the cable and closed the doors shut to check the open windows function on the fob. The missus has taken the car to work today so will need to test when she is back home.

I can't believe any manufacturer can sell a new car these days without an alarm!? 😳

Surely we are missing something (and don't call me Shirley!)

I will be speaking with my dealer today. I'll ask them.
