Only reason I remember this is because after that I unplugged the cable and closed the doors shut to check the open windows function on the fob. The missus has taken the car to work today so will need to test when she is back home.

It beeps if you get out with the ignition on or was the ignition fully off?

This might be helpful, or completely irrelevant, but with the GRY it's only the UK that has interior alarm sensors (I think), I know that the Australian cars don't have them (they get heated steering wheels instead).

I don't know if the sensors were one of the things fitted in Derby once the car arrived here, or if it was fitted at Motomachi. Sounds like it's not just the sensors you're missing though, so the lack of the sensor light not be the main issue...
 
Spoke to TOL and they are going to get back to me. They are unsure whether it needs an alarm or not or whether it has one at all (first new car to come to market without one then LOL) I am not the only one who has queried this apparently .... another retro fit by the dealer like parking sensors incoming???

At this rate, it would have been easier to buy a Westfield in a box and build the bloody thing myself.
 
Saw this on facebook and asked TOL about it:

"The GR86 is fitted with an alarm - An EC approved alarm along with a Thatcham approval Cat2 immobiliser.

The alarm that is fitted is a Parameter alarm (so if someone tried to force a door or the boot open it will sound. It is not an intrusion alarm so having the window open and waving your arm about would not set it off."

Good luck testing that.
 
Guy on YouTube used the physical key to open the door and it set off the alarm (he was testing to see if the key would control/disable alarm). This key activation is a setting via Techstream. It would be one way to prove the alarm works maybe?

Hmm. I guess we'll have to take their word for it. The manual does seem to back that up; but I'm surprised that operating the door handle from inside the car doesn't set it off....

Also, I tried the the procedure to activate the alarm but there was no feedback as to whether it turned it off or on. If what they say is true, no real way to check, either.

EDIT: posted this before seeing the video above. Might be worth someone trying that with a UK car then.

Doesn't work on my car, the door just unlocks and opens. Farcical.

ETA: no follow up from TOL. still waiting.

Just tested something else. you can lock the car with the fob and leave the bonnet open, no warnings or alarm going off. I trickle charged the battery recently and locked the car with the key so as not to set the alarm thinking that I would need to do that otherwise the alarm would have gone off with the bonnet open, turns out not.
 
Just had a thought, maybe that is why the insurance premiums seem high, it's because it doesn't have a car alarm :ROFLMAO:

Anyway, don't have sleepless nights it has an immobiliser, probably, and you are covered by insurance, probably.
