I've been looking through Thatcham's list of Toyota vehicles with an 'approved' alarm/immobiliser system and the GR86 doesn't feature. The GT86 and GR Yaris are both listed but not the GR86.
It would be great if the GR86 was 'in-hand' for approval but I can't find anything to confirm this, so I've sent the question to Toyota via their 'Contact us' page.

That aside, I shall be re-installing my Ghost II immobiliser (removed from previous vehicle) and adding a Meta Trak S5 VTS Tracker (instead of my previous SmarTrack S7).

[Update] I've just received a call from my local dealership and it may be that the GR86 will be certified Cat2 immobiliser and Cat1 alarm. Having recently been on his GR86 training course and ditched his notes, he's away to find out for certain. So maybe we'll have some good news when it comes to Insurance declarations ...

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there's some good news on this front. My current insurance quotes are less than ideal! I'm hoping that an increase in the number on the road will also bring costs down as well.

Has anybody here fitted an Autowatch Ghost II immobiliser to their GR86 yet? It shows on their compatibility list as GR86 [ZN8/ZD8], so I imagine that they have properly configured it to work with the various dashboard buttons etc. My only gripe (again) is that fitting one runs the risk of invalidating the Manufacturers Warranty should it be found to be the cause of a fault - that said, it's the same for any 3rd party modification if found to be the causal factor. I just like the added security that an Autowatch Ghost/Pandora Storm brings to the party. Thoughts?

[PS. Still no reply from my Dealership WRT Thatcham Certification of the GR86. I'll chase it up sometime soon]

I agree with this - I haven't recevied my 86 yet but it's something I was looking at getting almost straight away.

My uncle just had their house broken into (targeted for the two cars at the houshold, Golf GTi and a Golf R). They managed to take the Gti butt he R had a Ghost immobiliser on and they couldn't get it started so it was left behind. Based on that I think it's well worth it!

My only issue would be potentially having to jump through more hoops should anything go wrong warranty wise.....

I had the Ghost 2 immobiliser fitted to my GR86 by Chris At Immobiler Direct in Wellingborough last month.
All good so far.

see I don’t know how i feel about this, I’m of the mind if they want it they’ll get it, so I’d rather make it easy for them instead of them coming tooled up and turning my house upside down and potentially harming my family. That said, I’m not sure how nickable the GR86s are? I thought they wanted the golf Rs and the SVRs normally?

Physical Security Devices - Steering Locks. I'm thinking a choice between these two as visual deterrants? The Disklok or the Stoplock Pro/Pro Elite. Anybody use these?

I’ve got a stoplock elite.

Fitted one on my car after neighbours saw people acting suspicious and trying to pick up a signal off my key.

Cars still here, so it does its done it’s job I suppose 😅

Just kill the keyless.

on locking hold the lock button down and hit the unlock twice (the key LED will wink 4 times). Hey presto, dead keyless. Hit unlock on key to access car.
Yep, that was the other thing I did, thanks to your advice on another thread. Thanks!!!

Will get them to permanently turn it off when I take it for a service.

What I want to know is who asked for keyless technology? I want to punch them! I guess it was no-one but car companies convinced us that we needed it as it was so inconvenient to have to take a fob out of your pocket and press a button, that was so '90's so now we have to resort to 90's technology to stop the cars getting nicked due to their wonderfully useless 21st century tech, bunch of asswipes!

And relax, I feel better now.

:ROFLMAO:

Does turning the feature off not do the trick?

Yeah completely agree with this, I’m torn between the two, seeing as they just gave up when they came up against it in my uncles case, as I understand it’s a much more serious offence to aggravate the family, so most thieves wouldn’t do it - but that’s not to say some nutter wouldn’t come upstairs with a knife!!

Difficult decision, like you say if someone really wants it they’ll find a way!

You’re right, hopefully the GR will be less desirable for the organised crime type thieves as they stand out too much! The go to is typically Golf, Audi and Merc!

I have a Stoplock, it leaves a mark on the steering wheel due to its weight.
I'll buy a silver disklok when I get my ice silver 86.
I suppose you could use a steering wheel cover to reduce the marking ; a nice fluffy one perhaps? 😆
EDIT: I see Disklok actually do a universal steering wheel cover for this exact purpose!
