GR Yaris The Latest on GR Yaris (UK waiting list)

When in July did you order? The book closed early July and a waitlist introduced on 8th July. If it’s after that date I doubt you have a car due.

On a positive note, check for a KA or I suspect a KB order number if you let us know what it is we can advise on what others have been told. If you don’t have this number get on the phone straight away to your dealer and get it. If they don’t give you it then again you don’t have a build slot.
Order was placed on the 10th Jul, Order number starts "EM1xxxxxxxx". Has an estimated handover date of March 22. I have little faith that I have an order.

Why would you think you have no order? Do you not have order or finance documents?

My order went in on 18 Jul. There was a delay of a few days because they said they needed to see if there were any cars left before taking my deposit and doing paperwork. I get emails every month and they showed me on their system my name against a car.
I got a choice of pearl or white cars only, so not sure if was just dealer restricted choice or really down to the last cars for the UK.

Tricky. If you ordered in July 21 then it should have been built by now and makes me think the dealer messed up.

I would call (rather than email) Toyota direct and have a stern word with them. A lot of peeps were offered cancelled orders on the back of a call.= as long as you're not fussy about colour/spec.
This is my thought. Not sure why the dealer would lie and say the car was due in 3 months. Thing is, while I am set on the Convenience pack, if they said that this was a pipe dream and that I am on a very long waiting list, I would take the Cir pack car. I've emailed Toyota and they've asked from more details, let's see where that goes but my gut feel is that they forgot and I am deep on the waiting list or (worst possible situation) not at all.

I have a full invoice with the cost breakdown, they did a finance check at the time and the doc is signed by both me and the head of sales, hence it smells like an order. My doubt comes from a lack of number that correlates with others that are waiting, no notification that I am X on the list and absolutely zero communication from the dealership. Apologies for my naivete, I've never ordered a new car before but if this is how it works I am amazed / saddened given the cost of the product.

Also, a friend ordered a GRY from the same dealership when they were first reviews and had a very different experience i.e. all positive.

BTW = Thanks for commenting, it's been an immensely frustrating experience to date and if I come across as abrupt it's nothing to do with you all. It's the process and not knowing,

It’s a small point, but you won’t be “x on a list” because you actually have an order, it would seem.

I wouldn’t sweat it, you seem to have everything in place, it’s just a matter of waiting. Easy for us with cars to say, but many of us waited 12+ months with the same crappy level of information so we know what it’s like.

The list closed before 08 July. This press release issued on the 8th confirms that and the list opened a week later (now closed).

Ah don’t worry, mine said 4 months and gave me an exact date when I ordered, it then got pushed back 3 times during the process and then 16 months later I finally got it.

I feel like a lot of dealers understated the delivery times to get the orders on their books rather than other dealers in the network to boost their personal order figures, especially since people were phoning around nationally just to see where they could get one and were prepared to travel, so it became more of a national competition.

It’s well worth it - you could get something in the meantime if there is long enough time until your expected arrival and it’s a good distraction.

There are many others on this site who have experienced the same, so don't feel bad. Once you get your car all the waiting and frustrations will just vanish.

It’s a loonnggg wait. I went in before Xmas to get my deposit back and told to just wait it out by my dealer. If I didn’t want it I could still sell for more than purchase price.

Only other car in the picture is a bmw m2, but the competition is not coming out for a couple of years, so will at least give me some time to see if the GR is a keeper.

Took my GR into the dealer today for its 2nd service. I asked about their remaining orders still to arive and I was told all their GR’s on order had now been delivered.

Just had this from Toyota UK - I signed up for the waiting list on the day it went live last summer, and I'm in the top 100 on the list.

Hi Chris,

We're very sorry to inform you that due to unprecedented demand, GR Yaris has now sold out for 2022.

You're #7# on the waiting list, click on the link below to stay on the waiting list until 2023 and we will update you early next year with information on availability.

You also have a range of other options to explore, including discovering alternative models in our GR series.
I had a similar message sent to me on the same day after signing up for the waiting list in July 2021. Unfortunately I’m number 361 (at the time they sent the message May 2022). Is it worth the wait? I’ve been told I’d be waiting until late 2024

Well yes, it is worth the wait, but why bother when you can buy a lightly used one now?! If they do make any more, there is absolutely no doubt it will not be at the current (or latest) list price.

I’d rather wait then potentially overpay, the prices on the used market are considerably higher than list price (at present) - I believe the list price won’t exceed it tbh.

honestly, i don't think you will get a new one, if you are 361 in UK. the last about 2k are being build in the next couple of month. these are regular orders. a few thousand additional orders are placed at the waiting list. only a few of them have a chance getting a slot of someone jumping off. the chance would be much higher in Sweden and Finnland. but on german and british market the chances are quite low, i'd say.

there aren't many used ones on the market at the moment. at least in Germany. and they are right above the list price. 3-12 k, depending on mileage. i think the car will be worth even the higher price tag. (currently whaiting on mine). but that means you would have to be able and want to afford that price tag.

if you like to have one and can and want to pay for it, buy a used one now. don't wait for a very small chance to save some thousands. there are so great other cars around, nothing like the GRY though. but that does not mean they are bad. so maybe worth taking a look around.

that's just my few cents. hope you get what makes you happy and ease.

I just don’t see it happening, production has slowed drastically down and current orders won’t be fulfilled until September at the earliest.

I suspect once the last cars are delivered Toyota will finally announce production as ceased.

All the signs do point to this being the end for new GR Yaris don’t they? I can’t see the order books opening up again either.

I missed out on placing an order so searched for a used one in very early 2022. 7,500 miles later and I’m still delighted I pulled the trigger and found a good one (not modified red 21 plate Circuit pack that had 2,400 miles on it and no track use, garaged and pampered and ‘as new’).

Prices aren’t exactly weakening much and that’s before any official announcement about production ceasing. My advice, for what it’s worth, is to seek one out sooner rather than later…..

I doubt production will cease. A few talk groups going on at a select dealerships asking customers what would they like to change and any interest in a special edition and Toyota approved performance parts, also hinting at the gr corolla coming available later. Just hope the prices don’t get silly like the Honda type r.

I don't think we'll see any further GR Yaris in its current spec or price again.

If they do offer it again its likely to cost at least 10% more so approx £37k and delivery maybe mid 24?

More likely they will do a limited edition but probably at £50k plus, with mods and spec similar to the JDM cars.

I was at the focus group and their was more chatter about official parts and would we be interested in the GR Corolla than continuation of the GR Y in its current state, but for all I know they could re-open the order book on Monday.

Surely they will put resources into the GRC rather than the GRY

The GRY is old news, done its job & is a "niche" vehicle

The GRC is a global vehicle & far from a niche vehicle, way more practical than the GRY unless you get a Morizo edition :)
