GR86 Insurance

Promising start with Howdens for me - the GR86 renewal isn’t due yet but they’ve set up a multi car policy for me with a view to bringing my entire fleet onto it when they’re due.

My two modern classic Rovers have come in at HALF of Adrian Flux’s renewal (and less than the much more reasonable amount I paid them last year!), with lower excesses and a better policy to boot. Ben was also thoroughly decent to deal with.
it was a pleasure dealing with it for you, I'm glad we could get something sorted.

No doubt can get the GR86 and Lotus on as and when they are up for renewal.

Thanks

Ben Litchfield
Same here.

The insurance this year was went through the roof.. I was getting basacly double prices what I paid last year.

Ben from @HowdenSpecialistInsurance was able to provide me with a much better quote then what I was getting online, closer to what I paid last year.

Need to ensure the 86, just had the renewal from admiral which has almost doubled from previous year. Camparasion sites not giving me much hope of finding a cheaper price either.

Any news on when you'll be able to offer insurance that includes trackdays again?
we are still working on this, unfortunately, there's no set timeframe on when we will get them back but as soon as i have any information about it, ill be sure to put something on here straight away!

Hope you had a good weekend!

Cheers

Ben

Well I wish I could say that was the best use of 45 minutes I've ever spent . . . .

(Quoted policy from ERS via Howden was OVER 2x my current renewal)
Tbh this is one of the reasons I don’t use phone only insurance companies. Takes to long and usually they aren’t that cheap. It’s a shame because I’ve used brokers through my previous job for big clients and they are great but for personal insurance it doesn’t make sense for me.

Pros and cons for online and broker.

My first policy with Aviva for the Yaris was cheap and online, but when I wanted to contact them the only option was via email with a response within 24 hrs - no alternatives and a real PITA.

Comparison websites in my experience are fine for normal cars, but add any modifications then it's hit and miss regarding what's covered. Try and seek clarification and it can be hard work and likely you'll never speak to the same person twice.

I'll always give brokers a chance, worth the time and effort and if it's not to be then at least you've tried and if it works out you've got a contact, not a call centre.

Strange how things can vary so much innit? My quote through Howden was £400:07p, which included my Cobra exhaust and BlackVue 2ch Dashcams. Adding the 225 tyres later on put an extra £83:14p (wider tyres mod) onto the policy, making a total of £483:21p. I think you need more AliExpress stuff mate, it obviously brings the price down.
Seems you came good with Churchill though! Good price. I might give them a go next year depending on renewal quotes.

What mileage are you doing out of interest, because the panel if insurers at Howdens classed the GR as a "leisure vehicle", so would not insure at the mileage I noted (10k)

Interesting - I was told when chatting to Howden’s that anything that didn’t increase performance/BHP wouldn’t affect the premium with them…

Yeah, I think it's because wider tyres take it outside of the specifications stated on the (EC) Certificate of Conformity, albeit only by a small margin.

Churchill insurance (oh yes)
  • last year £353
  • renewal £492
  • phone call
  • renewal now £398 due to a 'loyalty' discount . . .
You've done well there, very well. With inflation that's probably cheaper than last year.

Never would have considered telling my insurance company about a tyre width difference. I’ll be changing mine to 225s when the time comes as they’re (for some reason) a lot cheaper than 215s, so guess I’ll be telling them this time around!

Has anyone had their insurance renewal through?

I paid £350 last year, Aviva want £950 now!

Obviously I told them to get lost.

Managed to get same cover from Lloyds Bank for £350.

Shop around people!

I'm 51, work in IT, live in Gloucestershire, 14 years NCB, car is parked on driveway at night, no claims during 5 years.

Aviva obviously don't like the GR86.

Aviva were one of the most expensive for me, definitely worth shopping around but you will still be paying more than last year.
