GR86 Insurance

Coincidentally my renewal for garaged MX5 mk4 has just come through today from Avivia, gone up from £170 to £226, although last year I got something back from Quidco taking it down to £135 (I think) Cheeky buggers have it down as automatic renew!

ETA it was £200.xx last year not £170, think it was £170 after cashback. So up £26

Insurance due for renewal on 15/03. Current insurer (Admiral) won't even give me a rough price until 21 days before renewal which seems both bizarre and a bit predatory to make you wait until the most opportune time prior to renewal for them to give you their price which in turn means you have less time to find a new quote.

Tried Aviva and with a multi-car policy including my partner's Aygo it was surprisingly affordable (relatively speaking, still £2k for mine but that's down to external factors I and the insurers can't control currently).

Did give Howdens a ring but they can't quote me until 30 days prior to renewal so have a call scheduled a week today to discuss.

brilliant! fingers crossed we can sort a competitive deal out!

im sure you did already but make sure to mention that you are part of the forum! :D

Car renewal due start of next month, gone from under £500 to nearly £800 with Admiral :mad: Makes the MX5 £226 look like a bargain. A few years ago with cash back the MX5 came in at less than £130.

Better start getting some quotes.

I did try but sadly no joy this time round, the price for the 86 was about the same as Admiral at £7xx and the MX5 was £3xx, I got both for less than £600 combined elsewhere. Will try you again next year though.(y)

I’ve just had my renewal through from Aviva it was £650 this year as I changed car to the 86 in June. New quote £1100 🤔🤣 not a chance.
I’ve ran a few quotes and got it down to around the £550 -£600 mark.
I also ran a quote to run a GRY and with all my no claims on the 86 it was still only £500 for the Yaris 🤷‍♂️

Just need to find a nice cheap GRY now 🤔🤔😉

Admiral have been really good for me this year. I now have home, the 86 and my ST with them. Home was £150 less than renewal , gr86 was slightly more than last year (but i did have to get a quote to match as initially it was around £600) Direct line wanted £680 for the ST (having a laff) up from £500 for last year. Admiral from March to end of dec is £280 (nice!).

Insurance renewal due in a few weeks - time to prepare I think.

Insurance confirmed today. Staying with Admiral, £2,100. Not as bad as I was expecting if I’m completely honest! Fingers crossed no more non-fault claims in the next 12 months 🤞🏻
Glad it worked out for you, I know you were worried how much it was going to be!

I'm looking at £670 this year with Admiral which was better than I thought. Going to give Howdens and Adrian Flux a try next week see if I can squeeze it down a bit more.

Yeah at one point it was looking like it would be north of £3k, which I said would mean selling the car. Got it for at least the next 12 months which is a weight off my mind.

Aviva might be worth a try, they actually came in around £20 cheaper for me but I ate that cost in favour of convenience to just roll it another year with the same insurer.

My 86 renewal isn't until July, but my other car (Range Rover Classic based kit car) actually went down significantly - about half what it was last year.
Never really understood how insurance pricing works but it seems crazier than ever... 🤯

Looking at c.£370 this year (up from c.£300 last year) so far, but I have increased my annual mileage and added business use. Reading some of the above quotes I think I can probably count myself fortunate.

That's low - which company and how much voluntary excess?

Gotta remember that @Silver Fox is 97 years old, lives in a log cabin on a tiny island with a population of six and does 3 miles a year.

[None of which is true but hey, if Princess Kate can fake a photo then I can add a little perpetration of inexactitudes now and again innit?]

*Sigh* now I'll have to contact my insurance co. and submit revised details. I'd told them two miles a year.
