That time of year again. Who are people with, how much are people paying? Mine's just come through and I've not seen it that high for years. So much for "discount" when getting house cover too which is a big chunk of the raise, despite never claiming. Car NCB is 15yrs+, mods declared and it's £500. Last year was half that and when I switched to the 86 it was no change to price. House is £300ish but one quick comparison drops that by £120 easy.

Tried them. They wanted £595. Got it down to £400 with Admiral but is still higher than I'd like. House insurance I could only drop a little and they wanted £280 which is still too much but is their "Platinum" policy, whatever that is worth.

Best of luck with the hunt @KobayashiMaru86 . The dark arts of motoring insurance do baffle me.

(Many years ago I halved my insurance premium by moving from a Ford Focus ST (the old 5 cyl one) to a 40hp more powerful BMW 130i, which was also loads cheaper than the Leon Cupra R I had before the ST)

There's been a few articles in the press over the last couple of days about huge increases in car insurance premiums. Direct Line was mentioned as an example with increases of 75% cited.

So we're probably all going to get clobbered come renewal time.

So my multi-car policy is due for renewal in Nov, and ill be giving my current insurer a call today to see what impact the 86 will have. Anyway last night (while watching the latest Grand Tour) I thought I would get an online quote from Direct Line - obviously haven't got a Reg so used one I found online.

Blimey, they are having a laugh £800!!

To put that into context, I have Full NCB 15yrs +. My current Multi-car for 718 Boxster (2017) and 2.0 Leon (2008) is £518. I may have to rethink this, no way paying £800pa

Haven’t had a car for over 2 years(just a work van at the moment) will I lose my NCB as had over 15 years?

Hi Barbel, best bet is to give a couple of companies a call as they don't appear to use the same criteria. Going to call mine this morning (always a joy to get a grilling from an insurance guy/girl ).

As @MR2rob and @midlife_sportscar say, some companies will recognise business driving so worth contacting and discussing your individual circumstances.

In my experience as soon as your policy with the no claims ends, you have 2 years grace to start another policy - after 2 years it's gone, but it's insurance so constantly moving goalposts and everyone is different.

Good point. I'm in a boring work meeting so used the opportunity to check my own insurer (Swiftcover) and they will accept up to two years "gap".

@Barbel I see it's over two years for you - it looks like Admiral accept up to THREE years so well worth trying them (especially as some of our comrades have had favourable quotes with them).

My new shape Type R is due for renewal in a couple of weeks.

The old (FK8 2021) was £137 last year, and when I changed to the FL5 in March they wanted a pro-rata £250 (no change fees, just additional premium) and renewal came in at £362. Best quote last night was £255 (£800xs!!) but this had increased to £410 an hour later when I came back to take that one - WTF

Insurance companies are just really taking the michael

You're right that are certainly taking something  I doubt its something that is likely to come down anytime soon either. Its so much more I must admit to having slight second thoughts.

Admiral have never historically been any good for me but were almost half the price of anyone else on the GR86. They're also happy to let you have most mods without extra cost, but those upgrades aren't covered if you total your car.

Worth a look if you've not tried them already.

I'm with Admiral. Have been for years and every year I have to ring up to batter the renewal down. Mods declared at the time of renewal have always been free but not sure if power mods would be different. Declare them mid policy via the web and it's £9 for policy change
