GR86 GR86 - What wheels and tyres are you thinking about?

Mine are 18 8.5j +45, I knew mine was gonna be tight and took the chance. I have 2mm between the wheel and spring. definitely the limit for stock setup.

Really sucks, I think you do have options but it depends how much you want to go into modification.

My friend got a set of Rays 57Xtreme for sale if this is of anyone interested. 🤤

I've bought these for my 86. In no rush, so gonna save some shipping fees and send them by surface mail. Will take around 2-3months.

These on the car above are 9.5 x 18, I went for a more conservative 8.5 x 18 as primarily they will be my track day wheels on 225/40 18. Sure, there more grip with wider wheels and tyres but it gets to a stage where there is too much grip for the power available and the fun of driving gets lost for the sake of chasing lap times.

Sorely tempted by these. Size is spot on, only spanner is that they’re ET36. Would that be too much? Planning on fitting lowering springs at some point too.

The arch gaps annoy me 🫠
Coilovers/lowering springs will likely trash the ride comfort and you’ll end up with suspension like wood. There are a few people on YouTube that have done it and regretted it - British roads are just not good/smooth enough for them but, hey you won’t know until you try. 😉

I'm running HKS Hipermax S coilovers. Ride is fantastic on them. I'll be doing a review on them over the upcoming weeks as I get some more miles under my belt. They've lapped up everything I've thrown at them so far though.

Hmmm, it's not quite as simple as that, there are coil over systems which have a better ride quality than the stock setup. Springs can vary but ultimately you will always sacrifice some degree of ride comfort, but it doesn’t always mean a spine crushing ride. I had a Corsa on just lowering springs and it was awful, my GT86 was on lowering springs for 7 years and whilst it wasn’t compliant as the stock setup I got accustomed to it and it was still more comfortable than my wife’s standard ZC31S Swift Sport.

Fair enough, each to their own (y)

I really don't like the look when it's lowered because the gap above the wheels becomes tiny, whilst the gap in front and behind the wheels stays the same, so I think it looks weird. But if it's what you like just put me down as old and uncool and go for it :)

Just found someone who is running the spec i will have, got all the bits but still waiting to get the car back from body shop.
