GR86 GR86 - What wheels and tyres are you thinking about?

That just sounds insurance daft. If it's any Pirellis, size or version then no issues, but if you fit a Michelin then it will be. Bonkers. It's like saying I can't get hold of Pirelli P6s to fit my 30year old XJS so I have fitted a more modern tyre from Michelin. Nuts.
I think it was more down the line of changing to a wider tyre wouldn't affect the premium as long as it was the same brand of tyre. I'm guessing if I chucked on some Pirelli 225s they might have counted it as a modification. Every time I phone up my insurance they have to put me on hold to ask someone else so might just depend what customer service rep you get on the day haha.

Interesting, as I’ve changed to a 225 width Continental which is objectively better than the 215 PS4 it replaced. If changing to a bigger and better tyre somehow affects my insurance negatively then I don’t want to know.

All that extra grip might make you want to drive the car more. Can't be having that! :ROFLMAO:

I recently renewed my insurance listing all my mods. It's interesting to see the various options for wheels and tyres that you can have.
Alloy wheels, wider wheels, wider tyres etc etc. It's a bit of a minefield as there were various things that seemed to describe the same modification. In the end having more than one mod listed didn't seem to change the price at all. Maybe it's because I'm such a model citizen 😅

Might anyone know of any place, or anyone, selling a standard set of wheels?

Salvage cars perhaps?
If you can’t get a set of OEM, it might be worth looking at similar units from other brands, like the Rota GRA which come in the (OEM) 18x7.5 size and offset? It could work out cheaper too as the Toyota wheels are quite expensive. Plenty of reasonably priced options out there. Skidz might also be able to help you find something?

Exactly the same wheels I had on my GT86, they were 17" though
(in silver - got them cheap!)

These are really tempting at that price! Certainly more affordable than the TE37s I was dreaming about that's for sure. I could save so much money on tyre changes between summer and winter over the next few years...

Sonic, stop. You're going to bankrupt us all with your amazing suggestions :ROFLMAO:

Looking to get a set of 17" alloys for the winter and was originally thinking 8J with 225 CC2's but can't find the finish I want in that wheel width, so looks like I'd have to go with 7.5J. Appreciate any comments if it might be better to keep looking for 8J's or if 7.5J's wouldn't make much of a difference in terms of handling, ride, etc...?

Had the 225 CC2s fitted this afternoon. It's like driving on a lovely cloud. Noticably quieter and I'm sure I'll be happy with them on the long journeys up and down the M6. At motorway speeds I had to turn music up to 18 or higher on the PS4s, only needed it at 12 or so to hear my tunes quite clearly on these new CC2s.

Had a query about my alignment. I noticed at my last service with Toyota and again today after alignment that they've logged it as a GT86. I know they're the same platform but are there any differences that would mean an alignment could be incorrect on the GR?

The settings on the Hunter alignment system are the same for the GT86 and the GR86.

When I had my Geometry done at Pro-Grip, the document was entitled "GR86/GT86/FT86: ZN8A (2021-). Original post here.

there's not much in it.
A 225 on an 8" wheel will be a more square fitment. - Better handling
Whereas on a 7.5" it'll be slightly ballooned (this depends on the section width of the tyres) - better comfort.
Remember the OE wheels are 7.5" wide wheel.

Thanks - ordered 7.5J assuming they’ll also be a bit lighter… and don’t want to delay taking off the OE rims and treads anymore!

Okay, so Spring is just around the corner and it'll be time to put the Summer wheels back on (Bola FLE in Hyper Black). I then have to decide what to do with the OEM wheels. Last year I had them powder coated in Piano Black. This year I'm thinking maybe flat gold or a light Bronze? Any other suggestions for a bright blue car?
