GR86 GR86 - What wheels and tyres are you thinking about?

I’ve no idea what this guy is on about 🤷‍♂️ but it’s amusing , any translation welcome 👍😂

I do understand this guy though 😂

"One seems to have procured some exemplary wheels with track orientated tyres, not to mention the rather exquisite brake setup to compliment the former"

Excellent translation @LukeC22 , it makes sense now 👍😎 what I’m still don‘t know is what language they are speaking 🤔 I’m guessing at “American Redneck“ but not sure on geographic area 🤔🤷‍♂️

Saw on an IG post someone got Regamasters. A wheel normally known on the Honda's but a wheel I've always loved. Weight just under 8kg a wheel which light. Shame they are $3k a set...

Not stock ride height and on a 5mm spacer (which I wouldn't use)

I think I've made a final decision, does anyone see any problems with this wheel/tyre size combo?
It will be my first time buying after market so any advice would be appreciated. I'll keep trying to find someone running this setup that doesn't have coils just to be sure.

Do you guys think winter tyres are necessary for the South of England? I'm thinking of getting a 16" rim and some 205/55R16 winter tyres for winter driving.

Or find a set of 17"s from the last 86 and put them on them. We did winters on my brothers but in reality he used them for one winter which did help but has run PS4's on OZ 18"s ever since. His commute is motorway so it's manageable since it's normally clear. PS4's on my vRS in the snow are awful. When it's below 4c you could feel the benefit. But like South Wales, how often do we really get a deep snow?

For the mild winters we have in England, winter tyres aren't necassary. The factory PS4's will get you through most of the wet/damp/greasy conditions without issue. However they will struggle on snow and ice.

If you plan on doing lots of driving in cold & icy weather, below 3°c (i.e. very early morning) or live in Yorkshire with hills everywhere then yes they'd probably be a sensible purchase.

Based on my personal experience, I'm similar to @KobayashiMaru86's brother, I had winter tyres for the first two years of my BRZ ownership, I used them in the snow once and it was mega, but in general the lack of proper wintery conditions made them pointless compared to a set of PS4's. I also didn't like the softness of the tyre as they didn't have the precision of a regular tyre and lacked grip compared to PS4's in the wet conditions.
Now that I'm permanently using PS4's if it does snow properly for a couple of days I just leave the BRZ on the drive.

In an ideal world, Michelin would sell us (Europe) the Pilot Sport All Season 4 that the Americans get as this is the perfect all rounder:

If however your a snow chaser then definitely get winter tyres, you can have some mega fun in this platform:

Thank you guys. Clears up a lot of my confusion. When winter comes, I think I'll just continue driving very carefully on the PS4s.

Will save the rim change for another time

Saw a set of the GT86 TRD 18 inch alloys on Sunday at SCITP, not sure what to make of em 🤔

These are the ones you want if your after TRD wheels, SF2.

There not cheap though, as they are fully forged:

Around £5k for a set of alloys and they are black 😳 No mention of what they weigh 🤔

Yes, they are very expensive and an extremely rare wheel.
Weight is somewhere between 7.5KG - 7.8KG.

That's OEMs for you. I would personally go for TWS T66-F if you are going to spend a healthy amount on wheels, they are all an incredibly light forged wheel and the style is very similar.

As of right now I've got two options in my head, one is OZ Racing's Superturismo Aero HLT, I really dig the inner ring for aero purposes:

The other is Bola's FP2, they have recently jumped into doing forged wheels, and are really good value for a forged wheel for around 500 a wheel. No weights released yet but I imagine it would be very light, here they are on a GR Yaris:

Plus the benefit of the Bola's is that you can custom spec your ET, and get that perfect fitment for the GR86!

They are both nice wheels, the Aero Superturismo don't look as nice in the size for our cars though, they are almost convexed the centre nut pushes out further than the wheel.

Yeah I see what you mean, hence why I'm leaning toward the bola's. A set of Rays would be nice, but I would rather pay less for lesser brand knowing that the manufacturing method is the same.
