If I recall, the CC3 Sport is 18 inch and above, which counts out my 17 inch wheels.
That CC3 Sport would be a game changer in a country like Scotland. More so in the wet south west where I live. A one tyre solution? I will buy some for the VW ID.5 GTX when they are due a change in the first instance. I have the CS7s and the remainder of the CC2s to wear off first on the GR86. On a different subject, took the bike out to scrub it's new Metlezer Tourance tyres yesterday, very satisfying

For anyone looking at 17x9, I keep an eye on what's available in 245/40/17 and the goodyear eagle Asymmetric 6, which is a forum (and personal) favourite doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere. Mine still have plenty of life in them, but it looks like I'm going to have to make sure I rotate them regularly to avoid mixing tyres, which means the first rotation is most likely due already.
It'll be a shame if I can't get them again, they've probably been my favourite ever tyre.

Tyre tech moves on, don't stress over it too much. The new Pirelli PZ5 has taken over the crown from the Assy6 now.

Yeah, that's true. Life goes on. Unfortunately, a lot of performance tyres don't come in 17" now, which is a shame. Its the first time in about 15 years maybe more) that I've had tyres smaller than 18" on a performance car, and it's been a bit of a revelation for me.
Either way, I'll keep my finger on the pulse of what's available and make sure all 4 are wearing evenly. I've never been keen on Pirelli since I had some pretty crap early P-zero (can't remember which one) which felt like plastic. I might be time to shake off that prejudice. Also the Bridgestone Potenza sport are available in my size (although they're quite a bit more expensive than the Assy6) so there are decent options.

Was considering these Bola wheels, but just discovered they are about 2kg heavier per corner. How much of a negative impact will this have?
I think I prefer the look of chunkier wheels, especially as the standard brakes are so puny looking.

That's quite a bit heavier I think you will notice it in ride quality and steering feel.
How much of a budget have you got? Desmond Regamasters would look great. They are a similar style but they are 4 times the price of Bolas

I've been watching some videos on YouTube and the Americans seem to put on as wide a wheel (normally forged) as possible, up to a 9.5J. This then requires coilovers, changing camber, trimming arches. Probably not practical for UK roads. I am happy to retain standard suspension and ride height.
Some of the flow formed wheels may be a more practical middle ground in terms of weight and performance, but can't see anything close to my style preference so far. The search continues...

A slight disagreement from someone running 245 tyres. Yes there is more grip, but i opted for UHP (rather than UUHP tyre) and based my decision off subjective handling and feedback scores rather than outright grip. The result is a slight increase in grip over stock and a great progressive feel so you can still play with the car. I am running coilovers though.
That said, a 245 with a UUHP tyre like a conti-sport contact 7 would yield massive increase in outright grip which would make it incredibly difficult to over power the traction.
I was dead-set on 5 spoke wheels. I just think they look really cool. Rangemasters would be the dream, but my budget wouldnt stretch to them. I considered cheaper alternatives, There's also the Kansei KNP, but the weight REALLY put me off. I had heavy reps on a previous car and they just completely runed the dynamics.
Flow formed are a good comprimise on price, but there are no 5-spoke options available. In the end i went for RPF1s. as they weigh hardly anything and are decent value. not 5 spoke but I still love the look. in a dream world I'd be able to stretch to a set of 18" Regas one day, but not yet.

I hadn't come across these wheels, so thanks for the tip. From what I can see the 18x8.5 weigh 10.6kg, so about the same as stock wheels. However, I am unsure how much extra weight will be in the wider 235/245 tyres.
Your chosen enkei wheels come in significantly lighter at c. 7kg for 17s or c. 8kg for 18s.
I came across the attached images on Google of a car running the Kansei wheels with standard suspension and 245 tyres without issue.

They do look really cool. I can't remember where I looked up the weight. maybe i was comparing them to Regamasters
Big 5 spoke fan, i just caved and ordered Regamasters but previously was between these. Enkei PF05 and Work GT5 at a much lower price point
