GR86 GR86 Confessions

Confession: Forgive me Father, for I have driven my GR86 way in excess of what I'd normally do over the Winter months...
Since taking delivery of my car last November my odometer now reads a spectacular 411 miles! That's crazy going for me but, sadly it's due mostly to the number of boring journeys I've had to drive across Scotland in order to have various modifications installed, otherwise I think it'd be sitting at about 65 all in.
I estimate that my planned road trips over the next month will add a further glorious 386+ miles, leaving me only 200 to reach the golden 1K run-in target before I get to Japfest! Oh yeah! Bangin' in dem miles. Fookin' WRC Rock Star me, innit?! 🤩🏎️

[For penance I shall declare 12 "Hell Yeah!" and carry out a full 3 bucket contactless wash every weekend until March]

I normally keep an eye on the odo for big milestones but somehow managed to miss the recent "big" one, noticed when I get in the car tonight it was on 2013 miles, after nearly 11 months, the joys of WFH and no commute unless you count the 30 steps to the spare bedroom from my bed :ROFLMAO:

I've only driven the car once since 21st November, and that was just to it's annual service and back (9th Dec).

Don't see that changing next week either 😬
Drove it to work today!! ...left at 6.30am, went the back roads for a more fun drive but got stuck in traffic the entire way. Also hit 3 sets of roadworks and a pothole that felt like it realigned my spine! ... not the best drive to start the year :(

I feel your pain. On the M8 from Hamilton (Nr Glasgow), I think somebody has stolen the white lines to use elsewhere and just left a series of huge 3ft long craters. It's not like they can be avoided either if you have to change lanes... over to lane 2: KERTHUNK! KERTHUNK! and back to lane 1: KERTHUNK! KERTHUNK! oh-em-effin-gee

Not quite sure where time is going, drove the car again today for the first time since 31st Jan! 😬

On the plus side... I knew where the pot holes were, successfully dodged some suicidal pheasants, tyres were much better (dash said 10c this morning!), and the traffic seemed to evaporate around me! Much better! 😊

Confession time.

Due to a combination of work, weather, and attempting to make my overgrown garden presentable (not a euphemism), I haven't cleaned my car in almost six weeks..

Car has been sat outside and used (i.e. not resting pampered in a garage).

Is this some kind of record in here?

I hope to rectify this situation later today!

Lucky you’ve got one of them magic silver ones - mine seems to keep itself looking clean for an unlikely amount of time…

Nope, I was 6 months before mine was properly washed. The odd jet wash, but after doing the underside it was time to give it a proper valet. So, worry not and relish in the sun. We drove down to Oxford from Ayrshire the other day, lovely down ere.

I could end up in The Hague if the 86 related bug genocide I committed this evening is anything to go by. There must be a kilo of insect meat plastered across the front of the car which only took around about an hour of driving on what was a clean car at the start of the drive.

My confession is that I recently made a choice not to drive my car out of embarrassment :D

Earlier this year I was made redundant, and worked my final day about 3 weeks ago. Mainly been looking at jobs in London, which would mean a rail commute, and had no luck. But I got a callback last week about a job in Biggin Hill which would mean driving to the office. No problem, as I used to drive my GT86 to our old office in Orpington (nearby) 5 days a week, and the new role is only 3 days a week in the office.

I got offered an interview, and despite it being a tiny company and a "smart casual" attitude to interview attire...I still decided to drive my girlfriend's Kia to the interview....something in the back of my mind told me that turning up in a bright blue sports car might not be the best first impression to make to a potential employer; might look a bit showy and ostentatious to anyone not really into cars, despite being only a Toyota.

Luckily the interview went very well, and the guys were very friendly and laid back. I've been invited back for a second interview next week; and when I got asked about hobbies etc, I did say that 'I'm a bit of a petrolhead...' - but still, I'm not sure whether it might be best to take the Kia again, and save rumbling into their carpark with my bright blue mid-life crisis until my first day, when I have a signed contract of employment :D

Yeah, save it for day One of the new job if it goes the right way, otherwise they might think (a) you don’t really need the job coz you have a sports car and (b) some might be a bit jealous and think you’re a show off. Just my opinion of course.
