GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

I mean. I guess I feel a bit betrayed. I’ve been going around proud telling people the story of the GR Yaris, and now anyone and everyone will be able to buy one and a newer one at that. What separates us from the other hot hatches or Porsche dudes now? When is the Mk3 with 310bhp due? Q3 2026?

I get what you're saying. The most frustrating part is how Toyota marketed the MK1, and we all fell for it. They sold us on this idea: it's a homologation special, limited to 25k units, and the fact that we can't produce them fast enough to meet demand (with some of you waiting over 2 years for delivery) just shows how unique and special this car is.

Then, out of nowhere, they pull a fast one, re-releasing essentially the same car with upgrades and no hint of any production limit. It looks like they could easily pump out another 25k units or more.

It kind of makes me lose trust in anything they say or market in the future. I understand, they're a car company, and their ultimate goal is to make a profit. And sure, the MK1 production started during COVID, so maybe their plans changed once the global car parts shortage eased up.

But still, I'm not letting them off the hook for this.

Yeah my Mrs will be like: "I thought you said these cars were rare?" - the moment she hears people will be able to order a newer one... 😅 o_O

Mine said that exact thing… I sold her on the idea that this a rare opportunity to buy a brand spanking new dream car at an affordable price. So I had to act fast-ish and sell our three year old e-Golf

Toyota never marketed it as a limited edition or special edition and production will stop at 25,000. They have always said from day one if it’s a success they will keep building it.

I hope they build as many as possible because the MK2 looks even better with all the upgrades and tweaks

Spot on.

Yep.

Real talk here. The GR Yaris is the halo car of the Gazoo Racing brand and is carrying it on its back. Neither the Supra nor the GR86 are doing that and that's not me hating on those cars by the way. Like I already wrote previously I was actually thinking about buying a Supra. They are very good at what they are.
But the fact is both cars are collaborations with other manufacturers. They don't really represent the skill and talent of Toyota engineers and they can't change and improve those cars in the way they want to because of that. They weren't developed with motor sports in mind either.

There are enough videos and articles out there that outright state that the GR Yaris is the love child of Akio Toyoda and for a good reason. He wanted a sports car purely build by Toyota. Well here it is and it took the world by storm. Toyota has been tearing up the Rally scene since their return to it. The Rally2 car just got homologated and is therefore still unproven and yet they already received over 150 orders for one. That's the reputation and trust that Toyota has built up with their endeavor.

A few thoughts on MK1 and Mk2 pricing.

Many of us in the UK will have £33500 as the base cost of a Circuit Pack in the back of our head's, because that was the launch price 3 years ago.

As far as I know after several price increases since the current RRP is £35705, which is rarely quoted, if this is incorrect, then let me know.

(Metallica extra £615, Pearlescent £920)

If the Mk2 has a 10% increase then we are at £39275 / £39952 metallic / £40287 pearl.

So we are potentially bouncing on the £40k RFL threshold (extra £390pa tax for 5 years).

The above doesn't take into account any premium for the auto version, so could be £41500/£42000.

All depends on how Toyota want to price it/position it. My gut feeling is just under the threshold for the auto incl paint, so £39995 and £38k for the manual.

They could price it with metallic/pearl as no cost to stay under the threshold, they could sell both manual and auto at the same RRP - both unlikely.

Whatever they decide it's going to be in the high 30's to low 40's.
One of the few realistic price posts on this. Inflation adjusted cost+ a few £k for the improvements. Nobody sells a facelift for the same price as the base model. So £40k-£45k is the realistic price point imo.

I still feel aggrieved after 3 years that no ic water spray was fitted to U.K. cars 😉

I think that will vary from country to country @6mt . I suspect the UK has very few if any unfulfilled orders.

Anyone in the UK still waiting for their car to be delivered?

@kinboshi

It looks to me that may have included at least some of the convenience pack items into this ‘Circuit pack as standard’ spec.

You can see the front parking sensors over the new side vents.

I have to say that the new front end is growing on me (still would have preferred that line between the original opening and side vent to be body coloured) but I will reserve judgement until I see one at the showroom.

Also, love the gunmetal grey, not on Audis but looks great on the GR.

I think this should be celebrated that they are still keen to make cars think this.
Hopefully they do a mk3/4/5 and keep developing it.

The press/hype will garner some interest in the mk1. I would buy a mk2 if I didn’t have my mk1 but I don’t expect to change my mk1 for a mk2. Really looking forward to seeing them about though, just like I love when I see other GRs out and about.

People shedding tears that they have done an update is a bit sad imo. Don’t think anyone had any personal promises or guarantees. It’s not personal them developing the car further it’s a business. They could make loads more and it will still be exclusive as I imagine plenty owners have them as 2nd or 3rd cars.

Anyway back to the mk2. I was initially shocked at the new dash design but grew to like it pretty quickly. Pretty cool how they have designed like actual race cars with the angle.
Front bumper looks better to me on the grey pics too with the extra vents. Amazing they have made so many changes to a very nieche car.

To me nothing says “my other car is probably a Lamborghini/Ferrari/Mclaren/Porsche/Lotus” more than a GRYaris.
To me it signals foremost it's someone that is at least interested in driving. And probably a good driver. To a degree almost nothing else does... (and by inference, could own all kinds of cars...)

I think the GR010 is doing that for Gazoo Racing really. :ROFLMAO:
(maybe not on the road though - point taken lol)

Sorry, WEC fan here.
Yeah, but nobody except motorsport nerds knows about that. And I say that as someone who has attended multiple WEC races.

Whereas I’ve had many random people comment positively on my Yaris. Its reach is far greater than the WEC. Or WRC.

Not that I particularly want one, but I wonder if that means those of us that have our names on Toyota's waiting list to be given the opportunity to put down a deposit, or simply those that have put down a deposit for a car that's never going to arrive.

Chances are upgrading would cost north of £10k, probably nearer £15k or even more and to me that makes my Mk1 Conv pack even more convincing!
