Just for fun, let's speculate what will be updated in Mk2 version of GR (if such will ever be releaced):
1. What features it will have, what will be changed, etc.

2. are you likely to go for it when it becomes available?

We can then celebrate who got closest with the receipe! 🥳

My take on Q1:
- it will have more power (+25hp /+10Nm, EU version)
- it will weigh more (+20kg to Mk1)
- Auto box as an option (add's weight 50kg to manual, costs 5k€ extra)
- JBL stereo as a standard option
- Seating Position will be lower
- There will be some kind of new paint scheme (Dark or light blue?)

Q2:
No Sir, I wont. Mk1 is "better". Don't miss that extra power.
Mk1 is true homologation special and their best iteration, even it has its quirks. Would love the upgraded valve train from GRC though (if it trickles the Turbo + Valve springs to GRY Mk2 too)

The GR division are working on an electric GR car according to the boss.

GRY Ultimate Morizo ed. 🙃
-same drivetrain as GRC-Morizo;
-No back seats
-GRMN rear brace; bucket seats and harnesses
-GRC forged rims (more dish-shaped than the GRY)
-Limited running nr.s

Dream-list:
-Better sound insulation (for tyre/road noise);
-JBL speakers + HUD;
-Settings (Lane dep; start-stop; IMT; etc) with memory;
-Better flow exhaust (single tip? center tip?)
-Rally style light bar(s)
-Underbody protection trays + transfer case/rear diff added cooling
-Revised doors card shape
-Arm rest

Hmm it's interesting to speculate isn't it!?

Q1 - I think if they do it, it'll be significantly different - possibly a hybrid to tie in with the WRC rules. And therefor bigger, heavier and maybe with flappy paddles.

Q2 - Nope - for the same reasons as you say @Michael Knight - and also I tend to think the first iterations of things are often the best - like my Mk1 Mini, the first Impreza Turbo shape, most bands first albums etc!

It will probably be a hybrid, which will make it faster and more fuel efficient (great) but heavier and lacking a clutch and manual, so I’m out.

If it’s just the same recipe but with bits nicked from the GRMN and Morizo editions, and the upgraded engine components and ECU from the GR Corolla, then I’ll be annoyed!

I wouldn’t want no rear seats though. Having occasional use of those is essential for me, it’s why I never bought a Megane R26.R, even though I really wanted one.

A hybrid makes sense but I think Toyota are now going full electric in a big way after latest statements.
I don't expect a new GRY but can't explain why. But I do expect a new GR something as an EV - possibly the GR Celica with all wheel EV drive.
GR2 as the new MR2 as a thought - possibly.
They will be bringing out a few EV sports cars as unfortunately petrol is on its last legs and I can't see them sticking with it as they are already well behind other manufactureres regarding EV.
I once said I wouldn't buy an EV but who knows if the right EV sports car is made at a decent price, range and specifications to sit aside the GRY.

Some news from this week's Autocar.

I agree, the most likely Mk2 is a fully mass production engineered version, all steel, minimised structural glue/welds, auto option etc etc.

Hello better profit margin.

The new car will likely have this ISA stuff in place to avoid excessive speeding. Also new Toyota Yaris seems to have some kind of intelligent steering assistance that can also assist during cornering

And everything that comes after that is worthless to me. All this shit is currently pushing me to buy a new manual Supra. Financially it's not that great to buy another car at the moment, but I'm afraid of missing the point when there's only this shit in the cars.

If the Yaris couldn't have bypassed all that Start Stop, Lane Assist, Esp, and bing bing dong dong bullshit with a simple wiring harness... I would have sold it again. It annoys me so extremely, in all cars and I hate driving it where everything beeps and restricts. Yes, I'm a dinosaur, but that's just how I feel...

Totally stupid actually, but it's really like that... most of the time I don't drive the Tesla, or the BMW. No most of the time for city driving and nearby matters I drive a 19 year old Mitsubishi station wagon simply because I enjoy it when nobody yells at me and patronizes me. I just can't part with the old cart.

Imo there is almost no likely about it, they have to be equipped by July 2024, and anything coming out now will be designed with it in.

Not sure why we are putting up with this nonsense to be honest. It is only a matter of time before they are sending speeding infractions straight back to a central database and disabling ISA is a crime.

My thought is they want to make driving so annoying you won't care when they suggest everything is automated. I'm not really interested in this halfway house, fully manual or fully automated, none of this nonsense in between.

Knowing this was coming was one of the reasons I bought the GR Yaris.

They look familiar, based on pics from our current gen. Still could be based on real intel.

ISA and the likes only required on completely new car models. But if mandatory might very well be a reason not to bring it to europe.

If it does come ours won't be the 'last one' anymore, on the other hand by the time it's available there will have been 4-5 years of fun for current owners and probably at a much better price....
