GR86 Coding via service departments.

Hi guys,
after playing around with the customization options/settings in tech stream successfully I would like to see the live data of the motor ecu. But if I try this the Techstream SW crashed :( I’ve tried it with a windows 11 VM + Techstream v18 and windows 7 64Bit VM + Techstream v17 but both techstreams crashed while connecting to the motor ecu. Do you have the same issues while loading the motor ecu data?

nobody tested out the Motor ECU Live-Data Function with the chinese mini-vci cable? I‘d really appreciate it if someone could test it. maybe I need another cable again :-/

I've just connected my laptop and I can't see any option(s) for live data monitoring. Using the VCI/Laptop with the engine running just resulted in a crash of the software.

it seems that the app crash is normal with the Chinese fake cables when using the motor ecu functions. maybe it works with a genuine cable or something special cable because of Subaru tech… who knows 🤪
Anyway, thanks a lot for testing dear sonic!

Trying to connect techstream to GR86 but without success. Can you tell me:
- does the car ignition need to be fully on (not stared) to connect, or just in accessory mode, or even off?
- my 'Mini-VCI J2434' came without any drivers. Where to get the driver and which one (for W10 x64)?
- which is the earliest version of techstream that works with the GR86? I've installed V18.00.008 but also have V14.20.019 which has a 'Mini VCI driver for Toyota' but not sure if that would work.
Thanks.

I think the ignition needs to be fully on (but not engine running) but without the VCI driver it won't connect anyway.
I struggled to make it work on W10 - as it happens I already had a W7 virtual machine for other old software that won't run on W10, so I used that instead and it was a lot happier.
There used to be a good guide with links on Val Rousseau's website but he's had to take the links down.

🔹To function properly, the ignition needs to be fully ON, but not started/engine running as changes can't be made in that state.
🔹The driver is called 'AutoKent MVCI MultiDriver x64' and is generally downloaded as an executable/zip/rar.
🔹Use version 18.00.008 of the Techstream software.

Points to note. Every attempt at extracting/installing the VCI driver on my laptop resulted in a 'red flag' from my antivirus, resulting in the file being quarantined and/or deleted. I ran it sandboxed with all AV disabled and noted no problems, so I allowed it to install properly on the laptop then did a full AV scan afterwards. Nothing was detected and my laptop hasn't died yet so I reckon it was a false positive.

I've uploaded the driver RAR file to my Google Drive. I'll send you the link by message.
** Be aware that this driver installation executable WILL flag as infected with malware when you try to install it. The only way I got around it was to isolate from the net; disable all AV; add exclusions to any warnings etc; install the driver software; re-enable AV; remove all previous exceptions; do a full virus scan; restore internet; do another full system scan.

Sorry, dragging up an old thread.

Can anyone point me to the correct place to disable the auto recirculate function? Booked second service today, and same as last year, dealer doesn't know what I am talking about.

Yeah, it's back on page 4 here, I seem to remember that the Aircon page is fairly easy to find within TechStream then it's just a matter of changing those settings (shown by yellow highlight in that pic) to 'User Select'.

Thank you @Sonic. I did see that but wonder if that will be sufficient for the dealer?

I managed to find it and make the changes within Techstream myself using that picture and I'm not a Toyota Technician, so I would hope that a dealership can do it ... There again, you'd think that they'd have the correct Oil Filters in stock for a booked Service too, but we know how that often goes eh ... 🙈

Had never used techstream before but was able to easily switch that auto-air con off following those same instructions.

A bit late to the party -but will be getting round to sorting the windows and unlock both doors - so I need the dongle and software and an old Windows 7/XP laptop from reading the threads?
Some of the links have expired, so will this one work as it will double up for my old volvo too?
ebay link

Cheers.

Looks to be okay, although it’s never proven until attached to your car and working.
Any laptop will do btw. I bought a cheap Windows 11 laptop from HP (around £100) to use as a dedicated Techstream unit. It’s the most horrid blue plasticky thing ever, but being solid-state at least it could be used for other stuff too if needed - albeit really slooooowly …

Still trying to get round to getting this to work, managed to install on an old windows 8 laptop, Version 18. I get stuck on the part where it says I need to install open port, it's not even on the disc? Anyone any tips to installing or is it not needed.
Can't find any decent install videos.

It's a couple of years now since I did the install so I can't really remember (and the guide I used has gone) but I think the only things I installed were TechStream, the TechStream patch, and the VCI driver.
I think maybe there was a sequence to installing the VCI driver, something like plug the adapter in to the car, wait a bit for a led to come on, install the driver and the status light changes colour when it's done...

Any ideas I get stuck on this screen and can't seem to select SP90, I'm sure I'm only 2 steps away, but not playing ball.
I have the on the first click.

Every time I went and clicked the drop-down the program would idle and I'd have to restart it. The trick is don't rush to click anything, just wait a while and it will it populate by itself once the engine etc is detected. The whole piece of software is super-slow. Softly, softly 'Click once and wait' is the way to go, if you get excited and try to plough on to the next stage, you'll end up freezing the program.

Cheers did you have the engine on the 1st or 2nd click of the start button after the spinning logo?
