GR86 Are prices increasing?

It all depends on what your appetite for risk is and what threshold you take on using your warranty. For me I find minor issues and niggles as something I’d rather address, rather than risk poor workmanship, the inconvenience of being without the car for an extended period along with the potential risk of getting your car damaged (which happens all too frequently).

Fortunately the additional warranty doesn’t require consecutive servicing for it to apply, so you can pick it up and drop when you please.
Its a bit of a bonus anyway as a lot of manufacturers only have a standard warranty period of 3 years. I feel pretty confident, I had my GT86 for 8 years and apart from a new battery didn’t need to replace anything under warranty.

I'd reconsider wasting the 10yr warranty, I know it's not the cheapest to have it, but remember you're driving a Subaru, not a Toyota and from own experience on the GT86 this wasn't as reliable as Toyota is claimed to be. I had to claim warranty repair 3 times on my 3yr old GT86, until the warranty run out. First it was the motors scraping both windows when lowering them, then a worn bushing on a control arm and finally a noisy clutch pedal. Finally a motor failed on one of the folding mirrors, but that was past warranty by a couple of months (5yr long warranty on that car).
But people used to claim on many more - water getting inside the rear lights, chirping fuel pump, delaminating reverse mirror :ROFLMAO: Not to mention the huge engine recall which many avoided like fire, because the repair was worse than the issue (it was preventative recall, so nobody wanted to take the engine in if the valve spring didn't break, as they needed to take the engine in half and then put together with... RTV sealant 😅 ).

And think of resale, I think a warrantied car will look tastier than "specialist serviced one" to an untrained eye.
I take your points, but I think ZN8 has pretty much summed it up pretty well above. Taking the car to the dealer is something I dread, and if its something fairly simple, I think I'd rather tackle it myself. I left the car with them for a day to sort my slightly dodgy auto window switch. It turns out all they had to do was reset the control unit associated with the power windows. That took them a day and when I got the car back, they'd somehow driven it a mile (does it really need a test drive after a window reset?), and I found out later, kerbed a wheel. And for some reason, you have to fight with them not to wash it sometimes.

As for resale - well, I'm not too bothered, honestly, purely because I am hoping to keep the car for a long time; certainly long enough that by the time I come to sell, there wouldn't have been much warranty left anyway (had my GT for 9 years, only thing I managed to claim on warranty was the interior mirror which I had to fight for, and which failed again out of warranty anyway). So I will take my chances somewhat and keep it independent, as my experience with them has been exemplary so far.

For me I'll put up with them the 4yrs of the PCP then once I buy it outright, they'll never see me again. Other places can look after it and it won't be stock after 4yrs. Life is too short.

I totally get it, I'd be livid if I saw this happen. And I am always anxious going into my own dealership as it is packed full of cars, and very difficult to manoeuvre, so I end up thinking they will mess up somehow. I avoided washing as well, but leaving 3 separate notices is pretty ridiculous. As is coming into a dealership for a booked service, only to find out they don't have the oil filter...

I just had my first service done by an independent. I already had the oil, filter and crush washer so they just charged me half an hour labour, rather than the 300 odd quid toyota wanted.

Given my experience with the dealer when buying the car, I wouldnt trust them with a boggo spec yaris, nevermind a GR86.

I figure my receipts for 6 monthly oil changes will mean more to an enthusiast buyer when I come to sell than full dealer servicing would.

Same for me. I've always Had main stealer history for any newish car but Toyota were so crap I just couldn't bear to risk them working on my car.

Only 8 GR86's on AT now, have all the others sold?

@mike64 Eight? I’m seeing 18 …

Just realised I had the distance filter set to 100 miles rather than National - opps 🙄:ROFLMAO:

18 out of 1500 cars is a testament to how good these cars are, I’m so happy to own mine, you will never get a chance to get another car of this ilk again, this entertaining for just over £30k
I love my Electric blue and notice it’s never for sale for long, 2 over £32k did sell.

I thought (at point of order dilemma) it was a bit too nick nick for someone who drives to the limit’s rather than keeps too them, so I went with the silver.

It’s a funny car for colours, some pull the design out, other colours hide it.

Certainly stands out, not discreet, it’s a colour on trend at the moment, I had a Focus RS Mk3 in the same shade, and I still spot one coming a mile away, luckily it has become the rarest colour for the GR86 in the U.K. as it wasn’t offered after the first 400 cars.
Silver was my second choice on order, very nearly went that way too.

If I didn't still have my Nitrous RS, I'd have gone for the blue (y)
The red GR looks good next to it though

Nice choice of cars, I sold my RS in 2021 and bought the GR86, both cars are in my mind the best in their category, very different cars but both very unique by modern standards.
But if you had to only keep 1, which one would you keep? Difficult choice to make.

That's easy - The RS all day long.
It's comfy when needed across Europe, fun on the B roads, can take the OH and the dogs in comfort and is far more capable than I am.

Interesting video on the sometimes savage depreciation affecting the performance car market. Think Mr Metcalfe nails it with the "Too much tech, too much money = not what consumers want" summary.

I did love my Focus RS, not perfect but always felt special, but I think the GR86 is purer, less power for sure, but mind bending handling with better tyres than the standard Michelins, both keepers though for you I’m sure, only 15 cars for sale on Autotrader, 1% of cars sold, that’s a sign those who own them know they have a special car and you will never get chance to buy another like it….ever.

Maybe the fact my late father left me some money so I could buy my RS kind of makes it even more special.

Talking numbers, at the moment according to HML there's 5885 mk3 RS in the UK with 126 for sale on AT so that's just over 2%. Still a good ratio. (y)

I was all set to go with dealer servicing when I bought this car, just for the warranty, but the service prices really are a piss take. They've set a flat rate for all GR cars, but apparently based it on the costs to service the 6-cylinder, 3.0 litre Supra. I've decided to stick with independent specialists for servicing...even if it's not hugely cheaper, it's as much out of principle of not being charged £315 for an oil change which takes 15 minutes just because the letters "GR" are on the boot.

And in fact, after a couple of incidents where it seems the dealer aren't too bothered about being careful with my car, I am considering sticking with independent servicing after 3 years, even if it means sacrificing the 10 year warranty. I actually trust them and their knowledge more.

Apart from that, to be fair, other running costs are reasonable.
I can't honestly complain about Currie Motors in West London vs my previous BMW service experience. I was impressed that they greet you even before you manage to park your car and take over the service (admittedly I booked express service for the first service). Although they work too hard on upselling
