I've been keeping an eye on AT and I'm sure there's a general increase in prices of GR86's recently particularly from dealers

Private sellers are around the £28/£29k mark but dealers seem to be pushing above the £32k mark

My thoughts are that as there are less than 1500 of these cars around, rarity will push prices up in the near future

When they get to 3 years old and 30k miles I'm thinking they will be £35k plus

What do u think?

I’m not sure. They are a niche car so are only worth what people are willing to pay.
As long as owners keep the residuals up by not selling too cheap then they should hold a good price.
Obviously the lower mileage summer used cars will fetch a bit more due to condition underneath. These are Japanese cars so need way more care in the salty conditions.

I’ll be keeping mine at least 5 years just using during the spring, summer and autumn. Hopefully I’ll get my money back as by then many would be modified, tracked a lot and showing abuse and also written off.

A lot of the dealership cars are still sitting quite high, although cars with around 5K miles seem to be hovering around the £28/29K mark. This one isn't on Autotrader but, I found another bright blue one in Scotland (Park's Toyota Dumfries) going for a smidge under £30k.

That'll be the one I spotted on the back of a lorry heading south down the M74 last week.

I was watching a video on YouTube and they believe that the supply of new petrol cars may be throttled by manufacturers due to the falling behind on the new electric cars targets. Otherwise it is a £15k fine per non electric car outside target figures. This could have an impact on the price of used cars.

Not really going to impact a car like the GR86 though. They are very niche.

Sold mine last week to Carwow. They were slightly better than Motorway and a whole lot better than 'We buy any car'. Carwow paid £25.5k, went to a Toyota dealer. Motorway was very close, WBAC were about 16 or 18k, can't remember exactly as it was low enough to rule them straight out.
Car was a first batch with 6k miles.

It does seem to be slow moving at the moment, mine has been for sale for a while and I've had very few enquiries.

I'm talking to Carwow and Motorway and might end up having to take far less than I think it's worth, probably less than garybee got

Unfortunately the car market in general is pretty slow, classic or recreational stuff even more so :(

It'll pick up in the spring hopefully - fingers crossed for continued low inflation and some interest rate cuts. Unfortunately luxury goods are the first thing to suffer in an economic slowdown!

I was pretty happy with 25.5k from a dealer. It didn't seem bad to me for a couple of years use of a flashy new car.

I thought it a great car too. Only sold mine as it wasn't wild enough to keep over my Caterham as a track car but was too similar to keep alongside it. Bought something completely different for day-to-day (6 Series gran coupe) as multiple sportscars seemed a bit silly...

This goes back to one of the review videos that people found annoying. Whether its 'lairy' enough to be a second car, and too compromised as a daily. This car fits into a very small segment. Admittedly If I was to go back to a 2 car setup the GR86 would be sold on.

The costs of ownership were also a bit high for what it is. Toyota seem to be kicking the arse out of servicing prices. I don't mind paying where work is actually being done but when the receptionist doesn't see the problem with asking if you want to wait (as the £500 service will only take 30-40 minutes) I don't feel like I'm getting value for money.

I was all set to go with dealer servicing when I bought this car, just for the warranty, but the service prices really are a piss take. They've set a flat rate for all GR cars, but apparently based it on the costs to service the 6-cylinder, 3.0 litre Supra. I've decided to stick with independent specialists for servicing...even if it's not hugely cheaper, it's as much out of principle of not being charged £315 for an oil change which takes 15 minutes just because the letters "GR" are on the boot.

And in fact, after a couple of incidents where it seems the dealer aren't too bothered about being careful with my car, I am considering sticking with independent servicing after 3 years, even if it means sacrificing the 10 year warranty. I actually trust them and their knowledge more.

Apart from that, to be fair, other running costs are reasonable.

I’d say that the price you think it’s worth is what is causing it to still be on sale.

Yes, I've come to the same conclusion, hence booking a WBAC visit tomorrow - £25,245 :cry:

I've put a final price drop on the ad before I take it to WBAC tomorrow, hopefully someone on here will get it first.

It's not a nice situation and you have my sympathy. You just have to try and not think about it too much, difficult I know.

If it's any consolation, I've just had to shell out £5k on an out of warranty engine repair on my M2C with only 24k miles on the clock. Something I'm desperately trying not to think about as well!

Only 21 cars for sale today (Sunday) that’s a dramatic drop from 39 a month or two ago, so demand is strong, WBAC are thieves, the price offered will be dropped at the point of offer for no reason, the car can be faultless, it’s a stunt they pull and it works as most can’t be bothered to walk away.
Stick to Autotrader and you will get your £26k plus, I think these cars are on the move higher, such a limited edition car and never to be repeated, EVs are unsalable to private buyers and new petrol cars are being rationed to avoid £15k fines.
Love mine and defo not for sale.

WBAC offered me more at point of sale on my last car.

I'd reconsider wasting the 10yr warranty, I know it's not the cheapest to have it, but remember you're driving a Subaru, not a Toyota and from own experience on the GT86 this wasn't as reliable as Toyota is claimed to be. I had to claim warranty repair 3 times on my 3yr old GT86, until the warranty run out. First it was the motors scraping both windows when lowering them, then a worn bushing on a control arm and finally a noisy clutch pedal. Finally a motor failed on one of the folding mirrors, but that was past warranty by a couple of months (5yr long warranty on that car).
But people used to claim on many more - water getting inside the rear lights, chirping fuel pump, delaminating reverse mirror :ROFLMAO: Not to mention the huge engine recall which many avoided like fire, because the repair was worse than the issue (it was preventative recall, so nobody wanted to take the engine in if the valve spring didn't break, as they needed to take the engine in half and then put together with... RTV sealant 😅 ).

And think of resale, I think a warrantied car will look tastier than "specialist serviced one" to an untrained eye.
