GR86 Are prices increasing?

I'd reconsider wasting the 10yr warranty, I know it's not the cheapest to have it, but remember you're driving a Subaru, not a Toyota and from own experience on the GT86 this wasn't as reliable as Toyota is claimed to be. I had to claim warranty repair 3 times on my 3yr old GT86, until the warranty run out. First it was the motors scraping both windows when lowering them, then a worn bushing on a control arm and finally a noisy clutch pedal. Finally a motor failed on one of the folding mirrors, but that was past warranty by a couple of months (5yr long warranty on that car).
But people used to claim on many more - water getting inside the rear lights, chirping fuel pump, delaminating reverse mirror :ROFLMAO: Not to mention the huge engine recall which many avoided like fire, because the repair was worse than the issue (it was preventative recall, so nobody wanted to take the engine in if the valve spring didn't break, as they needed to take the engine in half and then put together with... RTV sealant 😅 ).

And think of resale, I think a warrantied car will look tastier than "specialist serviced one" to an untrained eye.
Were there many hurdles in Toyota accepting the claim and fixing these issues / how reliable is the warranty cover? appreciate there may be some differences based on garage

I can't honestly complain about Currie Motors in West London vs my previous BMW service experience. I was impressed that they greet you even before you manage to park your car and take over the service (admittedly I booked express service for the first service). Although they work too hard on upselling
In Twickenham, near the stadium? Bought my GT86 from them back in 2013 :)

I was watching a video on YouTube and they believe that the supply of new petrol cars may be throttled by manufacturers due to the falling behind on the new electric cars targets. Otherwise it is a £15k fine per non electric car outside target figures. This could have an impact on the price of used cars.

my feeling it will get worse before it gets better. There are tons of cheap Chinese EVs which can flood the UK market to plug the demand for ICs and increase the EV share, I am afraid the trend on outsourcing manufacturing jobs is accelerating (if you glance at 2023-24 new-year presentation of the Chinease leader they are quite open on their expansion plans)

Sold mine last week to Carwow. They were slightly better than Motorway and a whole lot better than 'We buy any car'. Carwow paid £25.5k, went to a Toyota dealer. Motorway was very close, WBAC were about 16 or 18k, can't remember exactly as it was low enough to rule them straight out.
Car was a first batch with 6k miles.
I feel the pain... How much over the reserve price did they manage to push?

They always processed the claims without an issue, except one time when I tried to fix a squeaky clutch a week or two before warranty run out. That was probably a case of picking a bad dealership though, as they said they wouldn’t process it because parts would take longer to arrive than the warranty period would last, as if that was my problem.

I had the best experience with RRG Macclesfield doing any kind of warrantied or other repairs.

Interesting video on the sometimes savage depreciation affecting the performance car market. Think Mr Metcalfe nails it with the "Too much tech, too much money = not what consumers want" summary.

Sums it up for me too.

Was desperate to get a GR86, cheap fun, I just hope someone fixes the throttle response and it'll be golden.

Other than cold start, first 5 minutes, what other issues are you having with the accelatator?

It's well documented as being a weak point. Rev dipping. Over sensitive.
Well I don’t have any issue with it, yeah it’s a bit querky for the 1st few minutes. Fortunately after 200m from home I’m on a main access road for 1 mile.

Just baby sit the car until the blue temp light goes and all is 💯% fine.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing for the past couple of years but it doesn't make it any less crap.

It does improve when warm, but it's still not 100%. I've experienced a bit of jerkiness when pulling away hard, even when fully warmed up (granted, might be something to do with fuelling). And I still find it irritating how top-heavy the throttle map is - its fully open when the pedal is still only 50% through it's travel. I get that it's probably intentional to make the car feel peppier, but I'd rather have a pedal that responds all the way to the end. Would probably make the car a little nicer to drive around town too.

I glad you have no issues with it, but Bathroom is right, there's quite a lot of complaint about the GR throttle. There's definitely some room for improvement.

Sadly, mine's up for sale, but I have not had that much interest. Has anyone else sold private, or given up and gone with one of the WBAC type companies? I have dropped the price to a point that it looks very competitive at £26195. 1k under anything on trader.

Take a look at WBAC, motorway and carwow. Carwow ended up being over £1k more on my Yaris than the competition. The process was super simple.

Sorry you have to sell. It's a decent advert, so best of luck.

I'll throw my hat in with carwow. I got a decent price and it was very simple. I guess it all depends on how quickly you want to get rid of it. You can set your own reserve price so it won't go for peanuts.

People, including myself in the past, are often hesitant to buy privately in the tens of thousands. with a dealer you have a 30 day safety cushion incase there's a major problem with it.
