I agree with the Alfa comment having owned one.
The window drop design IMO is there to stop the door bouncing when shutting. The window drop allows air to escape whilst the door is being shut. Without boring you all with the science , basically when you shut your car door you are forcing air into the car which increases air pressure inside the car. If there is no where for the air to go your door will bounce and not shut.

Wow I did learn something at school.

Just annoyed me when it got frozen shut that it wouldn't operate but meh how many days of the year is this country at -7 o_O (y)
 
Difficult to complain about this car..😬

But the Headlights are really not matching the driving profile of the car, driving along really dark roads and putting the beam on almost makes no difference.. can't be right, a pretty necessary detail. Was that really decided at the design table..
 
Not noticed problems with the headlights on full beam here but then I'm not in the dark of Sweden. Pretty sure someone else on here in one of the Scandinavian countries added extra lights on their GRY.

This is an interesting one. I think the lights are brilliant but then this is the most expensive car I’ve owned so shouldn’t be a surprise. I wonder if this is more of an issue for those coming from more premium kit or if it’s an issue based on location?

I'm not sure if it's a premium car comparison issue.

On the one hand my R8 has significantly better lights than the GRY. On the other hand however, my recently sold Focus RS also had better lights and when new would have been similarly priced in real terms.

Yes for sure it has something to do with dark roads here where I live and drive, but I also have had so much better lights in cars before I realise. The BMW 1-Series (F20) is my latest reference for example.
Yes surprisingly (or not surprisingly :) the amount of GR Yaris with extra headlights here in Sweden and in Finland is big
 
Yeah, having been through a winter with it now I can confirm; the headlights are pretty much garbage.

LEDs can be very good - I’ve had them on a couple of cars, including the family bus A6 - so there’s really no excuse for this, especially considering the considerable size of the lighting units.

As @GrYaris_GRFour says, full-beam makes only a marginal difference compared to dipped. Baffling, and frustrating.

Don’t make me get a light bar, Toyota…

It's a strange one, also the most expensive car by far that I've owned, but I find the headlamps are better on my old 2010 Yaris with Osram Nightbreaker bulbs. I'm talking unlit rural roads here, there's definitely less depth/distance to the beam on the GR. I also notice that the hue is a very bright white, which is dazzling when reflecting back off road signs.
 
That's what I would like to do, stick a pair of third party bulbs in but sealed LED units means we are stuck :(

I wonder if would be possible to "harvest some good/quality LEDs from a known OE good/quality brand and adapt those GRY housings /reflectors. Still intimidating to hack into newish sealed GRY housings.. could be an expensive exercise 😅
 
My two issues with the car is the headlights and the small fuel tank. I dont care about plastic trimming, crap stereo or any of that stuff. But I would like to see the road also at speed and be able to drive longer on one tank of gas. When you go-go the mpg goes down fast. And 98 unleaded isn't on offer at most petrol stations here, so I need the range to get to my preferred fuel.

For me it's definitely location. I found the full beam here in rural Devon to be pretty much useless. Whatever else I do to the car I think my lightbar install will always be the best value, simply because it allows me to enjoy the car as it was intended when the roads are at their quietest.

in ref to fuel tank range, not sure you're aware can add another 50 miles once the empty fuel warning is displayed
