GR86 "That's a fresh whip bruv"; or the Toyota GR86 collated feedback thread

I was watching an autosolo yesterday and from a distance I saw a small group go and have a closer look at the car, peering inside, probably wondering if they could nick it without setting off the alarm. It was also voted the most interesting car in the car park by the sheep.

Had a nice chat with a bloke whilst waiting for tea, in the chippy tonight. Guy came in and asked if the "gorgeous sports car" outside was mine 😀 he mentioned he'd never seen one on the road before. I think that's the first conversation I've had with someone about the car. Last weekend I noticed a young lad mouth the words "wow" as I did a three point turn.

Was outside cleaning the car earlier, guy passing stopped, rolled down his window and said "Just wanted to say nice car, I drive past every day and always think it's a cracking looking motor!". Probably the most enthusiastic praise I've received so far :)

On my way to work yesterday morning I went passed a young lad who must have been all of five years old and smartly dressed in school uniform, walking a few paces in front of his mother.

Having clocked me coming he stopped and began pointing whilst mouthing the word 'WOW!' and continued pointing as I passed, clearly telling his mother to 'look at that car mum!'

Good lad, that was nice to see. 😊

Popped out earlier today to an out-of-town retail park to acquire some gentlemen's grooming products, as you do.

Parked up and spotted two women, probably in their 30s, who appeared absolutely hammered and who were loitering near the shops. Please bear in mind this was before 3pm.

I got out of the car and as I did, one of the women bellowed across the car park "DO YOU HAVE A SMALL WILLY? PEOPLE WITH CARS LIKE YOU HAVE SMALL WILLIES". Cue huge guffaws from them both.

Who told them? That's what I'd like to know...

Sorry, I won't believe it until I see a photo! 😄

it's times likes these where i'd think about shouting the old adage : "or maybe like throwing a sausage down a hallway"

anyway just to counter balance somewhat, just been to petrol station and parked up to get some petrol for lawn mower. Guy in a red honda civic arrives with decals and sport seats so cleary a 'modder' and i'm just walking back to car. "is that a GR86?" , yeh i say. "wow , first time ive seen one. Seen plenty of supra's and didnt want to embarrass myself by checking the rear badge!". i said it's pretty rare . Cue the "mind if i take a look". So like a carpark car meet, opened it up so he could have a gander and chat about differences to the gt86 . Just as we finished chatting he says "it looks better than the Supra". Nice chap.

Randomly drove past a Coffee and Cars meet at Route 71 in Galston on Sunday, about 100 cars in the car park - of all varieties. Of course, circled back and pulled in. First two comments, that's very quiet - yes, just the way I like it. Second, after opening the bonnet for someone - have they changed from BMW engines. I am thinking of printing a QR Code to place in the window for such events, with a link to all the relevant info 😁 Great morning until the rain came on and also met some very old faces from Porsche Club from about 20 years ago...

Sure it wasn't related to said 'gentlemen's grooming products'? Always best to make sure Veet labels are hidden ;)

I got a "nice car.. how fast have you been in it?" Comment at the weekend. Much disappointment when the answer was 70.

They followed up with "how fast can it go?", to which the answer was of course "my old A3 runaround can go faster".

Now, had the questioner been 6 I might have kept the dream alive, but they were nearer 60.

I find that not many people know what this car is, even Toyota dealer people calling it a GT86... Those that know, know

I had a 6 year old say to his mum..."look at that lamborghini" Was genuinely not sure how to take that!

Three young lads approaching a Pelican Crossing, one pointed at the car and shouted "look at that!" to his mates, then rushed up to the crossing and started machine gunning the button like he was a contestant on Catchphrase. Sadly for him I passed by in plenty of time, so all they got was a brief glimpse and not the leisurely stare that they were obviously after ...

When I went to Spa a couple of weeks ago, stopped of near Lille on the saturday before. Was going to a Motorbike shop and didn't realise there was a even on, it was heaving with bikes. Must have been over 500 bikes parked up.

On leaving and walking back to my car, I saw a photographer who was there covering the event, snapping pics of my car. My French is bad and his English was even worse.... :p but I understood enough to hear it was the first GR86 he had seen in the flesh and that my said my car looked good. I explained it was running spacers and coilovers. Even opened the boot to show him the spare set of wheels inside as we were heading to Spa. He was impressed I got so much stuff inside.

Here is video from the motorcycle store of the day:
