In my case, it's easy.

The MK2 is uglier from the front than the MK1, and from the back in the dark it looks like any KIA or Porsche, like an alien space ship. The diffuser and the interior are... uh, no, I won't say anything more about it :).

Let's put that aside, tastes differ.

So next point.

I'll go ahead and say that all these wonderful innovations are not noticeable to a "normal" user.

It's like every iPhone that is hyped by the marketing department with a 20% faster processor and an even better camera, so that you think "that's it!" But you can find out the difference from the direct predecessor in the lab, but not from simple use :). And the people who feel this usually fall into the second category and it looks like this anyway.
There are the GRY users who improve and change everything on the car in order to drive it seriously on the track. You have to do this with the MK2 too.

Now a little calculation from me.
I put an additional €20k into my GRY MK1. It now has the perfect chassis setup for me. More than 100 HP over the standard output. Everything has been changed and, in my opinion, improved so that it suits me. From the exhaust, engine power, suspension, body stiffness, optics, interior, absolutely everything.

And right now, when I add everything up, I'm at exactly the price of the MK2 naked😳.

It's an absolutely easy no for me :).

But for those who are not put off by the price and didn't get an MK1, why not?

And don't always believe everything the marketing department says. The valve springs They are not a game changer as advertised. More like the homeopathy department😅.

For all MK1 owners who have this "I always want the latest" virus. Relax and be happy, the MK2 will push up the used prices :).
 
I had a GR yaris before. Main reason for me to chose for the MK2 is the improved visibility and lower standard seating position. Hopefully this time I don't need to mount a Recaro Pole Position in to find a comfortable driving position. (Im 6ft4, 1m93 and have a larger upper body)

All that's been seen so far are pre-production models though (dash material quality was frequently mentioned as not being final spec, for instance), so it is possible, even likely, that they will add one to the actual production models.

Given Toyota's heavy leaning on the motorsport-derived element of the GR Yaris, I'd be amazed if they didn't in fact.

So let me get this straight. This new GR will be offered to those already on the list or who were lucky enough to already have one?? What about those of us who wasn’t able to even get on the list??

The reviews mention the complete opposite. Most reviewers expected to not notice the difference, and they all mention it feels like a very different car.

The cars they used in the reviews until now, even had a different drive mode selector (Front/rear vs Normal/track/Gravel). So the interior we've seen so far certainly isn't the final one. Also I couldn't care less if there is a badge in the interior.

PCP is popular because of the lower monthlies and gets you into a car for less than HP on a monthly basis, but it's also very expensive when compared to HP over the term of the agreement, unless the rate is low or interest free.

Appreciate this is also down to affordability but if I was buying on a PCP at lets say 8.9% I would be arranging over the shortest period which is probably 2 years, with the highest mileage eg. 40k pa and the largest deposit. You'll pay more per month, but will pay considerably less interest and your final payment will be significantly lower than on a 10k pa agreement. Yes payments will be more per month, but the killer on PCP is the interest calculation on the residual.

HP will be cheaper overall if you have a large deposit, but monthlies will be higher.

Do a comparison on PCP vs HP and the total amount payable will be significantly higher on PCP unless the rate is cheap or interest free or includes a big finance contribution.

To a degree yes.

Can I afford these example payments?

Sure.

Is doubling my car payment worth it for the delta between the Mk1 and MK2?

No so sure.

As you say, perhaps HP would come out more affordable.
 
Hi All,

I’ve been following this forum for some time now. Has some great information and always seems to be the first to announce updates. So thanks for that. I’ve been on the waiting list for a GRY since December 21. Kicking myself as I had one in my basket online when they was very first released but took too long to commit but quickly regretted it.

I get the argument that the price has been heavily raised however there are a few points of which some were mentioned previously. Initially the GRY were being sold at a production loss which is clearly not stainable if they want to fill demand. But also at the initial price for a full circuit pack in 2021 of £33k using the BoE own inflation calculator today is £40k plus the extra development costs, paying people to break them to just develop. The input from Toyota on this “project” is at a never seen before level from a mainstream producer of vehicles, especially in this day and age when considering sustainability is “niche”. (This won’t happen when Akio (Morizo) is no longer around he has a pure genuine passion for motorsport and has already been forced aside for his opinions on electric vehicles.

Also adding to this the weight of wanting to own one from factory, running it in yourself and maintaining from scratch, any second hand one won’t have those guarantees, albeit everyone on here seem to genuinely love there GR and undoubtedly have run them in correctly and looked after them but that can’t be said for everyone which means all things considered (plus personally I like the grey) I’d rather spend the extra money and buy new for added piece of mind.

With that being said. I’ve come across this on the government website. Someone has started a petition to raise the LVT to a threshold of £50k instead of £40k due to unprecedented inflation + you most definitely can’t find a half decent car for less than £40k new these days. Which as with everything with government has now fallen out of line with its initial purpose.

Please take the time to sign and share on social media if possible and help not just the new GRY community further down the line but also many more enthusiasts up and down the country that want to own a half decent car within the first 6yrs of its life but get screwed/put off by this system.

I think the government needs to raise the threshold for paying more vehicle excise duty (VED) from a £40,000 to £50,000 car cost price. This could allow lower paid people to buy luxury vehicles and not penalise them with what we believe is an extortionate tax that has nothing to do with emissions.

I give absolut 0 about the Youtubers. Thats all hypers and payed boys.

I'll test it myself, maybe it really is like that. But until then I doubt it.

I don't think there is a logical reason to believe that the car will be extremely different from the MK1.
There will be improvements, that's for sure.
As I've said before, those improvements won't make a MK2 better than a tuned MK1..
