GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

I guess it works both ways, even though being expensive as it is, the demand for the MK2 will push the price up for flippers (watch this space)

We all recall how it was stated here and there at the launch of Mk1 that "Toyota was not earning any money on the GR Yaris", "a car like this and built on these premises/volumes should cost more to pay for itself" etc etc..
Did anyone hear the actual figures then ?

Perhaps this is what we are facing now, the more "correct" price for a GR Yaris ?
(not saying it's a good thing)

Somewhat Off topic but I just read about the pricing announcement on a mainstream site/forum. Reading the comments, it’s quite interesting to see how many people can’t get past the name (“not paying that for a Yaris”) and/or also how many don’t know what the GR really is under the skin. Eg one comment said that a Lexus at 60k would surely not be that different to the Yaris in performance :p

Point of this post being that this site is such a niche word full of information, and you forget how little the wider world seems to know about these cars. Which explains lots of the tailgating and lack of interest when people walk past (even within the wider car community, which I find crazy).

Does anyone have a hint about UK allocations?
I see the press release doesn't mention any exact number.
Something like the 500 cars in Italy, maybe?

totally true, and seems to be a global thing. The good side of it is the "Yaris" does not necessarily take all the attention which can be very nice in many ways :)

So in the early days there was 400 suggested then the rumour changed to 300 then 200. I’d be shocked if Italy get a larger allocation than the UK considering mk1 sales.

The big thing I’ve noticed is just how many people on motoring websites don’t have a clue about the current market. All the people shocked that a car has increased in price in line (or thereabouts) with inflation.

Like the next person of course I don’t want prices to rise but the reality is they are.

I agree. The UK currently has the largest allocation for the mk1 in Europe I believe? I think the mk2 will be the same.

Looking at the Honda type R they are not holding their value that well so we can expect the GR to depreciate and probably settle around £39995 after a few months as we will see a bigger allocation in 2025. Interest rates will be lower in 2025 so finance costs will be less. If you need to buy on finance I’d be inclined to wait 12 months.

2025 allocation (if at all) will not be confirmed til January.

Likewise, I'm surprised how llittle people know what rally even is nowadays, and if they know it's some kind of distant memory. It's near invisible today, and then they wouldn't know a world champion manufacturer and model either of course...

Haha.

I mean they came in around what I was thinking, but there's no way I'd trade a MK1 for a MK2 and pay twice as much for the privilege.

Taken that second car to Porsche owners to heart.

To be absolutely honest, barring the internals changes which will likely end up being retrofit over time, there's basically nothing to really sway me at all.

My best guess will be about 1000 for the uk initially, which will sell out immediately.

Then an additional 500, which will also be snapped up easily again.

Toyota will have no problem selling the GR at this price in the UK.

However only Toyota know how much "limited" is.

I'd say 1500 is fairly limited.

What I really what to know is has this mk2 got the "Developed for world rally" badge?

Any confirmed pics?

Actually looks like it does on carwow vid.

Disappointing styling and disappointing price, although to be expected really. Certainly not on my shortlist anymore. The ballot reminds me of Willy Wonka and his frigging chocolate factory!

Happy to keep mine but it's not stopped me doing some man maths now that the prices are confirmed!

Could make it work but as I've said before, would it really drive that much different down my favourite roads. Undoubtedly not, especially for an extra £20k plus.

Not even sure how much my 39k mile 71 plate is worth. WBAC value it around £22k (cheeky bar stewards), so it would be a significant financial hit to climb into what is a very similar car.
