GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

Exactly, it’s utterly meaningless. The only comparisons you can do are vs the present day and other cars around or past cars all at the same stage. They may as well have compared the price of the Mk1 with something from years ago too and questioned whether it was worth more then as the entire baseline has shifted.

Good going comparing it to a i20N that will no longer be sold when the mk2/evo drives out of dealerships...
I owned an i30N which cost me (new) exactly half of what I will pay for the GR Yaris. That doesn't make the GR Yaris overpriced, the i30N was just a bargain and inflation kicked in.
Make the price comparison to a Honda Civic Type R, and the Yaris is 15K€ cheaper now...

I haven't seen HUD mentioned in any of the material about the MKII. All the shots of the car in the UK press release are of LHD cars too.

Remains to be seen if the "Tech Pack" talked about in the EU materials is included/offered in the UK.
Bit of a missed opportunity, could have been another way of differentiating from the MK I, at least in the UK.

Given the clarity on options/packs delivered in EU in the press releases, I think it'll either be all or nothing for the UK in a single model.

My rambling thoughts, for what they're worth...

I firmly believe the original model was underpriced at the time it went on sale. Toyota probably regarded it as a bit of a punt, and having comitted to producing 25,000 for homologation simply had to shift them in decent numbers, hence the relative 'bargain' that it was. In many ways a loss-leader. They had to convince the world that this was no ordinary Yaris.
How many members of this forum had comitted to buy one BEFORE the reviews came out in November '20?
How many non-enthusiasts were/are even aware of what the car is?

Step forwards 4 years, and given the shit show that we've had to endure in that time with COVID, Putin, inflation related increases in the cost EVERYTHING I don't think the prices for the new models are a far off what they should be at all.
It's not like Toyota have inflated their prices whilst the rest of the car companies have held theirs the same for the last four years.

I'll be trying the auto once the demonstrators turn up at dealers, even if just for comparison's sake, but it'll have to be noticeably more impressive for me to take the plunge on a 'standard' car.

One thing for certain, I'm sticking with my 21 plate with it's current 27,000 miles, but I'll also be doing my level best to get my hands on a Rovanpera. Yes, at £60k it's a bit daft...

But so am I.

Oh, and if I should be lucky enough to land one, it'll be getting used like it should be, not packed away in an air conditioned bubble in the hope it'll make my kids a few £££ in 30 years

I need to test drive the mk2 but will find it very difficult to believe the engine will be as sweet as in current mk1. Drive and compare - thats the way to go!
Actually one of the most trustworthy tester (hopefully) in Italy, who in the past was quite harsh about some Mk1 flaws, said that "the Mk2 engine is much better than the already fantastic Mk1 engine, and you couldn't imagine by how much it is, believe me".
That said, I'm just witnessing this, since I'm still not able to judge which is better between Mk1 and Mk2, even after placing my order for a manual Mk2... 😬

I bet you wouldn't be able to see the HUD over that hideous new display... 👀

lol jokes it's characterful I guess and will grow on you... 😬😅😁

Just through my own curiosity, I find this quite interesting…. I had a Mitsubishi Evo 6 TME a few years back and if you compare how much the standard evo 6 was when new (£30k) in 2001 and place that into the BoE inflation calculator this is what you get. Today’s money would equate to £55.5k so with that also in mind I don’t think the new GRY is too crazy. Judging by those numbers and considering the TME is pretty much identical to the special edition concept of the GRY even £60k doesn’t sound too crazy…. If you have the money. Possibly the closest like for like comparison that can be done. Also judging by this we’ll have to wait another 20 odd years for this to happen again by then with all electric etc. 🤔

If is is on-line somehow, please link it here or even better in the correct subforum. I did think Davide Cironi made perhpas the most honest review of the OG and had the same critique as I found myself. By the time the mk2 rolls out, I'm hoping there are some improved calibraitions (OTS properly developed remaps) out that really adress the issues with OG driveability.

I guess they want to “reward” the ones that had faith in the idea when a lot of people purchased them without even test driving or knowing if it was actually going to be successful. Although I’m one of the few on the waiting list still it is reassuring to know they’re trying to look after the ones that believed in the idea. Also they know some current owners might be discouraged if they thought they wasn’t being looked after and Toyota just wanted their money and now couldn’t care if the arse fell out of them (which won’t happen).

From what I’ve read here, it’s a bit of a mess between the various country organizations, at least within Europe.
While most of y’all are unfortunately still waiting even for instructions, some countries (e.g. Germany) have already contacted people on “waiting lists” 3 weeks ago. However far back-dated those lists were, but certainly not ended in 2022. And certainly, at least in Germany it had nothing to do whether you ever even owned a Toyota or not. You just had to express interest.
Some country organizations have announced the next step procedures, some not. There are lottery-type processes, timelines far into May etc.
Meanwhile other countries have already signed and closed contracts and are “sold out.” Without any lottery involved. Italy comes to mind, not sure who else.
Italy! Being first! Who’d have thought?😂

Keep the faith!

It was not so easy to retrieve this video because it wasn't on his youtube channel, but I made it.
When it comes to car testers there are as many opinions as the number of people who judge them, but from what I know, he is quite appreciated in Italy.
He knows motorsport by direct experience, he is quite outspoken, and he looks like he knows what is speaking about even on a technical level.
The engine part is at 19:00, and it's actually a bit different from what I wrote, that was based upon what I recalled about it and other videos he made.
But the differences are only about the exact wording, it doesn't change what he meant to say.
To say it all, he said that the Mk2 engine got so better with respect to the Mk1 one, that it looks like a new engine at all.
I'm guessing he is exaggerating it a bit... 😬
The engine of my Mk1 is amazing, I really don't know how it could be improved by a lot.

It would be kinda cool if they allocated the first batch to the people who've driven their GRs the most.
I never expected the waiting list to lead anywhere, so I ended up paying over list for my very low miles garage queen.

Kinda sucks that the original owner who flipped the car might be the one who is contacted. Thank god I don't want one, or I'd be pissed.

The reviews mention the complete opposite. Most reviewers expected to not notice the difference, and they all mention it feels like a very different car.

The cars they used in the reviews until now, even had a different drive mode selector (Front/rear vs Normal/track/Gravel). So the interior we've seen so far certainly isn't the final one. Also I couldn't care less if there is a badge in the interior.

Most reviewers are outright shills. You'd better take their words with a massive grain of salt. Even if the only difference between the new car and the old one was a paint job and a headlight projector, they’d still rave, "Oh, it feels different."

And just because it supposedly feels like a "very different car" doesn’t automatically translate to it being a universal upgrade in all aspects.

Don’t be fooled. Remember how a car like the S2000 AP1 outshines its "evolved" successor, the AP2, in certain ways, even if the latter is widely touted as an improvement.
